Recorded on May 26, 2010 using a Flip Video camcorder. This is a glimpse into the lives of a typical Asian university experience. The things you might want to notice are: Lack of air con. 4 desks + 4 beds. Open window + mosquito nets. Places to hang clothes because they don't have dryers. They also hand wash all of their clothes; there is a facility in their dorm building. There are no bathrooms [or maybe there are toilets.. or holes in the ground] or showers. They have a community shower. I think someone asked, "Do ya'll like the community shower?" [asking them if they liked to shower with other girls] and they said... "Of course not." Duh. The international students seem to get the nice stuff, but their dorm fees are much greater. But they get their own bathroom and air con unit. Sounds like it's worth it. So if you don't like your dorms here in the States, just watch this video! The dorms provide mosquito nets, I think, and a water cooler. There is a somewhat interesting story behind this.. Since we were visitors and we were all male, the students we were paired up with had to get special permission to get up there. The students need to sign visitors in and out at the front desk. The front desk is a little bit like a bank teller's desk. Windowed off with a small rectangle cut out at the bottom to pass papers through. The movie opens in 1964, throughout the civil rights movement. Lily is practically fourteen years aged and has an abusive father and no mother. Within the first scene, a lady in a dress wanders close to a room and goes back and forth in a closet. A marble rolls on the ground plus a small girl is playing with a young clear glass shooter marble plus a mirror. The mother (Deborah Owens played by Hilarie Burton) is taking clothes through the closet and putting them into a suitcase. Suddenly a man barges in, the husband/father starts to rage in the mother, saying that she isnt planning to leave him. He throws the suitcase on the ground and grabs her roughly. The lady reaches for a gun inside closet and factors it in the man, telling him that she just really wants to go. The man wrestles the gun out of her hand and it falls on the ground. How to make an american girl doll bedroom, out of your own bedroom! I took the small space underneath my desk and turned it into a small bedroom in a few simple steps: 1) Fold a blanket to fit the space and use it as a carpet 2) Add the beds, but make sure they are nice and neat! 3) Add a dresser/nightstand. I used an old jewelry box, but if you have an american girl dresser, that works just as well! 4) Personalise the dresser/nightstand and beds. Add stuffed animals, dolls and books. 5) Add a curtain by taking an old scarf and sticking it on the wall with two sided sticky craft tape. 6) cut out pics from an old magzine of you dolls fav stars and tape them on the wall! 7) Put your dolls in their brand new bedroom and let them enjoy it! There were these 'disc magazines' that came as one or two 3.5" floppy discs with various content on them, like pictures and small games. Some of those disc magazines were adult orientated, like the Peach Up series, featuring Anime style erotica, a genre better known as 'Hentai'. You can say what you want about the pictures, but some of these games were pretty original. Though incomprehensible for whoever doesn't understand Japanese, most of these require just a bit of experimentation to figure out how to play and 'get them girls naked'. In this game, a girl and a boy battle eachother by having to do math. Both get to do a calculation and whoever has the highest result of that calculation should punch the other on the head with a hammer. The other has to defend him or herself. Ten smiling girls in authentic clothes perform a folk dance from Ardahan (Turkey). The music is played with two instruments often found together, the davul (double-sided drum) and the zurna ("Turkish oboe"). This was in Arnhem (The Netherlands) during a multicultural festival called "Live for life", 2006. The performing group is called "El Ele" (Hand in hand). See www.elele.nl (in Dutch).
