The first Saturday in May every year is Snap Shot Day. This project, conducted by the Coastal Watershed Council and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, monitors the water quality of streams and creeks of the Central California Coast that empty directly into the Pacific Ocean. My wife Diana and PJ Webb ( a great friend of ours) sampled four different sites near Cambria and San Simeon, CA for the fourth year in a row: We have a blast doing this very serious work. Tracking the quality of water emptying into the Pacific is extremely important for protecting marine life and stopping potential problems earlier than later. I added captions that, hopefully, will give you a chuckle. The REAL humor in this is that the actual conversation among ourselves was quite close to the captions!

The snap beans are starting to get blooms and their starting to run. The potato plants are nice and big - some of them are 2 feet tall. The corn is anywhere from 6 inches - 1 foot tall. The patio tomatoes were the first tomatoes to start developing, with the grape tomatoes in second place. The cantaloupes are starting to break through the ground. The potatoes are anywhere from 1 foot tall to just breaking through the ground. There is one squash sprout - which is ok. The ground might still be a little cold for the squash and zucchini to sprout. Give it another week and they should start breaking through the soil. The corn was planted 3 days ago.
