Members of the Fridley/Columbia Heights Rotary brought dictionaries and bookmarks this week to third-grade students at Hayes and Stevenson elementary schools. Rotary members explained to students why they were there, and that adults use dictionaries in their lives just as students use them in school. Cathy Smith, past president of this Rotary Club, spoke more about the dictionary project. The Rotarians joined the third-graders in cracking open their new dictionaries, and promised to return to those classrooms near the end of this school year so that the adults and students can discuss how they each had used the dictionaries through February, March and April. LIBRARY HOURS The Columbia Heights Public Library will change hours starting next week. Two hours are being added to Tuesday and Saturday's open hours. Call for more information: 763-706-3690. We had a record snowfall of about 21" on December 19, 2009 (the US East Coast blizzard of 2009!).
