Lewis University hosted its annual STAND conference March 15-19, which consisted of several events, including films and lectures touching on the subject of social justice. STAND is an organization fostered to advocate social justice. STAND envisions a world in which all people enjoy every human right instituted in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other sources. The mission of STAND is to stand up against violations of human rights through investigation and action, as well as to educate others on issues of injustice. On March 15, a lecture on women's rights in Burma took place followed by the film, The Greatest Silence - The Rape of the Congo. The Hiroshima-Nakasaki Atomic Bomb Photo Poster Exhibition, consisting of 30 posters that detail the horrors of the only two nuclear bombs used during a time of war in human history, was on display throughout campus for viewing on March 16. One of the highlights of March 17 included a presentation delivered by activist Dr. Michael Peshkin, professor of mechanical engineering at Northwestern University, on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Opening with the phrase, Geography is destiny, Peshkin shared his own personal experience in Israel and provided historical facts about the conflict as well. He explained the political scene in both Palestine and Israel, elaborating on specific events in history. For example, Peshkin examined the 1964 attempt to liberate Palestine through armed struggle and then the 1993 ...
On March 30, 2010 the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA) marked the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Day of Action with flash mobs at Chapters Indigo and Mountain Equipment Coop (MEC). BDS Day of Action In 2005, over 170 Palestinian civil society organizations called on people of conscience around the world to join a campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law. Over the past 5 years, the BDS campaign has become a global force, uniting student groups, trade unions, faith-based organizations and grassroots activists in the struggle against Israeli Apartheid. Last year, in the wake of Israels brutal assault on Gaza, the BDS National Committee declared March 30th the Global BDS Day of Action. This day of action coincides with Palestinian Land Day, which symbolizes Palestinian resistance to Israels ongoing land expropriation, colonization, occupation and apartheid. On March 30th, BDS activists around the world engaged in demonstrations and creative actions to mark the day of action. In Toronto, CAIA focused on two Canadian BDS targets Chapters Indigo and Mountain Equipment Coop. Boycott Chapters Indigo! Since 2006, CAIA has called for a boycott of Chapters Indigo bookstores because of its ties to Israeli Apartheid. The owners of Chapters Indigo, Heather Reisman and Gerry Schwartz, are the founders of the Heseg Foundation. Heseg provides scholarships and other support to former lone soldiers ...
It finds that the construction of the wall and its associated régime are contrary to the relevant provisions of the Hague Regulations of 1907 and of the Fourth Geneva Convention; that they impede the liberty of movement of the inhabitants of the territory as guaranteed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; and that they also impede the exercise by the persons concerned of the right to work, to health, to education and to an adequate standard of living as proclaimed in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Lastly, the Court finds that this construction and its associated régime, coupled with the establishment of settlements, are tending to alter the demographic composition of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and thereby contravene the Fourth Geneva Convention and the relevant Security Council resolutions. -The International Court of Justice in the Hague Press Release 2004/28 Journalistic Credits: www.Democracynow.org Music Credits www.audionautix.com www.music4yourvids.co.uk

Showcasing both the daily experience of Palestinians living under occupation and the joint Palestinian-Israeli non-violent resistance to the Israeli state and military, Occupation & Resistance- Photos from Palestine features courageous images from the front line of the struggle for justice in Palestine. These moving images are the work of the widely published group activestills, a collective of photographers based in Israel, who believe in the power of photography as a tool for social justice. Formed in 2005, they have since held and participated in exhibitions in Munich, Olympia, Bilin (West Bank), Tel Aviv, Toronto, Montreal, Malmo, Lund and Amsterdam. Opening night will include the New Zealand launch of the book Gaza: Beneath the Bombs by Sharyn Lock of the Free Gaza Movement and Sarah Irving. The Israeli offensive in Gaza was described by Amnesty international as 22 days of death and destruction. Defying an international press ban, Sharyn Locks eye witness blogs became crucial reading for anyone following the conflict. Gathered here, they are a unique account of the reality of life in Gaza beneath the bombs including her harrowing eyewitness accounts while volunteering with Palestinian ambulance medics. Events will be held during the week of the exhibition by local groups campaigning on the issue to raise awareness and mobilise solidarity with Palestinians. Good overview of the situation in Sheikh Jarrah by a representative of Rabbis for human rights. Video source: www.youtube.com Website: www.palestinemonitor.org A weekly protest against the take-over of homes by settlers in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah is drawing increasing attention from leaders of the Israeli peace camp. Among those present in a recent demonstration was Peace Now leader Yariv Oppenheimer, former Knesset Speaker Avrum Burg, and former Education Minister Yossi Sarid. Israeli police forces have been treating the peace demonstrators harshly. Eighteen people were arrested this past Friday, even though earlier arrests under identical conditions were thrown out by the courts. Peace Now's Oppenheimer told Haaretz about the momentum behind the campaign. "The protest speaks to more people than it did in the past. Now you feel like the struggle has become more fundamental, not only regarding Sheikh Jarrah but regarding the overall settlement activity in East Jerusalem," he said. Demonstrator Avner Inbar told Ma'ariv that "we are here to defend the local residents who have fallen victim to the unending harassment of the Jewish residents." Indeed, Palestinian resident Maissa el-Kurd spoke about the difficult conditions her family has endured in the months since his neighborhood became a focal point for settler activity "There is no more joy here, there is no laughter, no happiness. All over the world people live, and only here we are dying. There ...

This is a video I made for my social justice class in high school. It reveals the truths about what Israel has done to Palestine. Being Palestinian, I find it necessary to educate the world about this horrible war that has been going on for decades. It is genocide and will be worse if it does not end. Spread the word!! Enjoy. PS I had to change the song for copyright purposes. It was originally "Hands Held High" by Linkin Park

Debate over American policy in the Middle East and the best way to end the Israeli-Palestinian crisis is broadening. Should military solutions or diplomatic ones be favored? A note to youtube, Stop advertising everything Israel on any featured vids I show on my channel. Thanks.
