Annular Solar Eclipse on 15 January 2010 Can be seen best in Tropical regions on the Equator, from Nigeria in Africa, crossing Indian Ocean, passing by the southern tip of India all the way to Korea in the far East. Its the first Solar Eclipse of the year 2010 Annular Solar Eclipses usually happens in winter time, as the Sun is at Perihelion ie at its nearest to Earth, so apparent diameter of the Sun is larger than that of the Moon, for that the Moon can not cover the Sun entirely leaving a ring of light around it.. Total Solar Eclipses howerver usually happens in sumer times as the sun at Aphelion ie at its furthest from Earth and its apparent diameter is smaller than the Moon and can be covered entirely... A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth so that the Sun is fully or partially covered. This can only happen during a new moon, when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction as seen from the Earth. At least two and up to five solar eclipses can occur each year on Earth, with between zero and two of them being total eclipses.Total solar eclipses are nevertheless rare at any location because during each eclipse totality exists only along a narrow corridor in the relatively tiny area of the Moon's umbra. A total solar eclipse is a spectacular natural phenomenon and many people travel to remote locations to observe one. The solar eclipse of August 11, 1999 in Europe helped to increase public awareness of the phenomenon, as illustrated by the ...
The July 22nd 2009 Total Solar Eclipse as seen from Tiuanhuangping Pumped-Storage Hydro Plant, Zhejiang province, China. Time-lapse sequence showing me and some of my travel companions watching the and photographing the eclipse. This video was recorded using a Canon G10 on a small tripod in front of me. Pictures of the eclipse can be seen at: portfolio.astrophile.net
Time compression of the Williams Expedition with Jay Pasachoff July 22nd 2009 from a mountain top in Tianhuangping China. The fisheye movie is intended for projection in a planetarium dome. The 6000 frames recorded by Aram Friedman of Ansible Technologies were processed by Eric Beam. Totality at this location was just over 5 1/2 minutes. Our original intention was to shoot from Sun up to Sun down but as you can see there was significant cloud cover and we were extremely lucky to have reasonably clear skies for most of the eclipse. The recording ends abruptly due to a sudden rain storm.
The July 21, 2009 total eclipse of the Sun, as seen from the bow of the ship, aboard the m/s Paul Gauguin, at sea in the Northern Cook Islands in the South Pacific. This location placed us near the end of the path with the Sun 7° above the horizon in the early evening about to set. This is real-time, not time-lapse, shot originally in 1080p HD video with a Canon 5DMkII camera and 16-35mm lens at 35mm moderate wide-angle setting. Notice Mercury above the Sun. And the brightening of the horizon below the Sun as the far edge of the lunar shadow approaches us and rises to meet the Sun as totality ends with a diamond ring. This movie takes us from just past mid-totality, through "third contact," to into the partial phases and sounds of celebrating eclipse chasers. Note that for us on this side of the dateline, the eclipse was on July 21, not July 22 as it will be officially listed and as it was for people in China, the most popular location for viewing this eclipse.

Note the dark cone of the Moon's shadow, with the Sun at the apex of the shadow cone. The shadow came toward us from the direction of the Sun. The loudest comments are my own — this was a stunning eclipse. This movie takes us from before the start of totality, through "second contact," and to past mid-eclipse. Note that for us on this side of the dateline, the eclipse was on July 21, not July 22 as it will be officially listed and as it was for people in China, the most popular location for viewing this eclipse.

The Total Solar Eclipsed 22 - 7 - 2009 Dishui Lake - Shanghai - China. To all eclipse chasers everywhere on Earth! Despite cloud, one a half minute of totality captured with the video camera this year. A really glorious chromosphere and an amazing second diamond ring that I feel so lucky being there! After four minutes of totality I realized that the exposure settings on the camera were totally wrong to capture the corona through clouds! I replaced this lost time with the best shots of my friends during totality. Hope clear skies next time!

The total solar eclipse on the 22nd of July 2009 will be the longest of the 21st century. Lasting over six and a half minutes at the maximum duration (in the same Saros as the long 1991 eclipse). Starting in India along the western shore near Surat the path of the shadow heads towards Butan touching the southern tip of Nepal and the northern edge of Bangladesh. The eclipse passes over the Chinese cities of Chengdu, Suining, Chonging, Wuhan, Xiaogan, Hangzhou, and Shanghai by which time the duration of the eclipse is over five minutes of totality. Leaving Shanghai the path continues into the ocean encountering islands such as Toshima and Akusaki south of Japan and eventually the Marshall islands. The maximum eclipse duration of 6 minutes and 43 seconds occurs far off the coast in the Pacific Ocean.
Total solar eclipse view from an airplane. Date: 22 July 2009. Time: 10:41 - 10:46 JST Taken from ANA433 (thanks to the captain and the crew)
This time the luck was not on my side. Clouds obscured the corona most time during totallity. Because of the bad weather we decided to go to Wuhan instead of watching the eclipse from the Shanghai area as planed. I read reports that the corona was visible some km north of the city of Wuhan, others saw it some km south of the city. I was near the city center and had to deal with a field of thick Altocumulus clouds, which allowed us to see second contact, but the corona did not make it through, despite of about 10 seconds. But it was very hard to see and not comparable to the beautiful eclipses 2006 and 2008.
Total Solar Eclipse 2009:Millions of people in Asia will see the longest total solar eclipse this century on Wednesday as swaths of India and China are plunged into darkness. Scores of amateur stargazers and scientists will travel long distances for the eclipse, which will last for about five minutes. The eclipse will first appear in the Gulf of Khambhat just north of Mumbai. It will move east across India, Nepal, Burma, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China before hitting the Pacific. The eclipse will cross some southern Japanese islands and will last be visible from land at Nikumaroro Island in the South Pacific nation of Kiribati. Elsewhere, a partial eclipse will be visible across much of Asia. The previous total eclipse, in August 2008, lasted two minutes and 27 seconds. This one will last six minutes and 39 seconds at its maximum point. Alphonse Sterling, a Nasa astrophysicist who will be following the eclipse from China, scientists are hoping data from the eclipse will help explain solar flares and other structures of the sun and why they erupt. I recorded and assembled this video of the July 22 Partial Solar Eclipse from Discovery Bay, Hong Kong. I used binoculars, pinhole projector, and mirror projector to view the eclipse (binoculars not in this video). -Notice how, in all the pinhole projections, the moon covers about 60% of the sun- In this video, I will also show you how to use the Pinhole and Mirror projectors. - ( www.timesofearth.com ) - The solar eclipse of July 22, 2009 was the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, lasting as much as 6 minutes and 39 seconds in some places. It caused tourist interest in eastern China, Nepal and India. Millions of Asians have witnessed the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century early Wednesday. In some parts of the continent, the moon completely blocked out the sun for more than six-and-a-half minutes. The eclipse - the longest since July 1991 - was visible in India, Nepal, Burma, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China. There won't be a longer eclipse than today's for another 123 years. The eclipse first appeared just before 1am GMT at in India's Gulf of Khambhat just north of the metropolis of Mumbai. It passed across some southern Japanese islands and was last visible from land at Nikumaroro Island in the South Pacific nation of Kiribati at 4.19am GMT. A partial eclipse was visible in much of Asia between midnight and 5am. Lasting six minutes and 39 seconds at its maximum point, it was the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century and will not be surpassed in duration until June 13 2132. The maximum point occurred in the ocean just after 2.30am GMT about 62miles south of the Bonin Islands, south-east of Japan. Astronomers travelled across the world for a rare prolonged view of the sun's corona, a white ring 600000 miles from the sun's surface. According to Nasa, Taregana in the eastern Indian state of Bihar was the best place to witness ...

Indeed, when it is getting dark, several pandas in Chendu city become excited, but not frightened. "It is said, a photographer is scratched by a little panda."

This video shows the partial solar eclipse which took place at Kanyakumari, India from 6:10 am to 7:15 am.. I am not a Pro in shooting videos. But I just did. The second part of the video is red in color as I introduced a negative photo film in front of the camera because the sun was very brighter at that time and the eclipse was not clear. The audio quality is too poor. Very sorry. Hope you enjoy the video.
