Could the Myth of 2012 Turn Into a Reality? Regardless of the fact if the next Solar Max is the worst in history, or not as bad as the 1859 and 1921 storms, the point the astronomers want to make is, "we know it is coming but we do not know how bad it is going to be," says Dr. Richard Fisher, director of NASA's Heliophysics division. Solar Tsunami Strikes Earth 2010 august video
Credit and thanks to NASA and ESA scientists and engineers for the video data. Frames referenced in this video are from four satellites. 1. SDO - (Solar Dynamics Observatory) 2. STEREO A - (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) 3. STEREO B - (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) 4. SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) (What's with the different colour formats?) In this video solar events are mainly displayed in their individual wavelengths. Composite imaging, overlaid in multiple wavelengths, can be found at 2:00. My favourite would have to be composite imaging. :) Some telescopes study the infrared, helioseismic and magnetic while others the Extreme UV spectrum etc... Colour signifies which wavelength is being filtered by design of each telescope instrument. Video highlights: August 1, 2010 - A C3 classed solar flare occurs. At the eastern limb region of our sun, above the solar equator, filaments increase in brightness and loops of magnetism swing with great winds. A solar tsunami rises from the north-western region of our sun. (Note: Relative to our view of facing the sun, north, east, south and west are seen in the counter clockwise position when viewing the solar satellite data.) Whatever the cause, solar fields were perturbed widespread. Was that earth at the end of the STEREO footage? On August 3-4, 2010, Earth experienced higher levels of geomagnetic activity after a CME arrived at earth. Beautiful auroral displays were seen at both the north and south ...

This is another warning ofthe suns awesome powers. This solar flare is powerful enough to take out anything electrical if it is exposed to that side of the earth it hits. Solar flares are pieces of the sun which leap into space, discharging radiation and strong electrical currents that travel outward into space. They often fall back to the surface of the Sun. Sometimes, a very strong flare, called a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), actually leaves the Sun and this deadly mass shoots out from the Sun towards the planets like a bullet. Usually these CME's don't hit anything but occasionally they hit a planet like our Earth. The Mayans, and even the Hopi indians told of the beginning of the signs of the ending of the earth as we know it from the stories of the earth being consumed by the sun god. This calendar is recorded as a carving on the Aztec "sun stone," It's all about the Sun. It's ironic (or maybe not) that the Mayan Calendar is often called the "sun stone." While the calendar does have "solar" days, acknowledging the 365 days it takes for Earth to rotate around the Sun, it is also true that the Sun plays a key role in the final day of the "long count." To understand what will happen to the Sun on December 21, 2012. Our solar system is part of a huge disc shaped collection of stars and planets called the Milky Way. We're located somewhere on the edge of the disc, slightly on top of the narrow disc. But very soon we'll be moving to the bottom of the disc. This change ...

A solar tsunami that hit Earth Tuesday night is now providing a spectacular light show today. According to Nasa, a portion of the sun had exploded on Sunday and sent out a solar flare, or a cloud of charged particles, racing towards earth. That solar storm has slammed into Earth's magnetic field, causing an electromagnetic storm. The resulting light show, described by Nasa as "rippling dancing curtains of green and red light", is only visible to those in the northern part of the US, Europe and Russia. Scientists say this indicates that the sun is waking up and heading toward another solar maximum expected in 2013. The previous one was in 2001.

Click to video-exposed.info to Watch full video 'Solar Tsunami' arrives for Obama's birthday Link : video-exposed.info First a rodent scurried in front of the Rose Garden podium as an oblivious Obama spoke on financial reform. On Memorial Day, while all went well at Arlington Cemetery, Obama attempted to speak at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood in Chicago, Illinois. The President was promptly rained out by a violent downpour. Nature then followed Obama indoors. On more than one occasion, Barack has been visited by Musca domestica. In fact, as Obama delivered remarks on the Affordable Care Act and the new Patients Bill of Rights in the East Room of the White House, an audacious fly comfortably landed and hung out for a while on the President's upper lip. The oversized housefly was merely expressing an opinion on the bill. Oddly, Barry appeared at ease being lit upon by what would normally be swatted away. Now, in anticipation of the President's birthday, the sun's surface is communicating from 93 million miles away by blasting "tons of plasma into interplanetary space -- directly towards the Earth," in an event being coined a "solar tsunami." Scientists are predicting that a "wall of ionized atoms should hit the planet tonight creating a geomagnetic storm and a spectacular light show and possibly threatening satellites in orbit." Leon Golub of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics predicts that the "eruption ...directed right at us is expected to get ...

The Sun is about to put on a spectacular light show. Two minor solar storms that flared on Sunday are shooting tons of plasma directly at Earth. Scientists said residents in the UK might even get a chance to see unusual northern lights as the coronal mass disturbs the the Earth's atmosphere. Usually only regions closer to the Arctic can see the aurora of rippling reds and greens, but solar storms pull them south. Early on Sunday morning, the Sun's surface erupted and blasted tons of plasma - ionised atoms - into interplanetary space. That plasma is headed our way, and when it arrives, it could create a spectacular light show. 'This eruption is directed right at us, and is expected to get here early in the day on August 4th,' said astronomer Leon Golub of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA). 'It's the first major Earth-directed eruption in quite some time.' The eruption, called a coronal mass ejection, was caught on camera by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) - a spacecraft that launched in February. SDO provides better-than-HD quality views of the Sun at a variety of wavelengths. 'We got a beautiful view of this eruption,' said Golub. 'And there might be more beautiful views to come, if it triggers aurorae.' When a coronal mass ejection reaches Earth, it interacts with our planet's magnetic field, potentially creating a geomagnetic storm. Solar particles stream down the field lines toward Earth's poles. Those particles collide with atoms of ...
