August 6, 2009: President Barack Obama praised the Senate vote confirming Judge Sonia Sotomayor, saying "with this historic vote, the Senate has affirmed that Justice Sotomayor has the intellect, the temperament, the history, the integrity and the independence of mind to ably serve on our nation's highest court."
The full roll call of the votes for an against the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. The final vote tally is 68-31. Even ailing Sen. Robert Byrd showed up in a wheelchair (at 1:50) to vote aye. At the end of the clip, Senate MAjority Leader Harry Reid - with a grin - suggests the absence of quorum.
Just moments after the historic confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, President Obama gives his remarks. He says he is "deeply gratified" that his nomination was confirmed. "She has the intellect, the temperament, the history, the integrity and the independence to serve on the nation's highest court." He adds "she will make an outstanding Supreme Court Justice." In response to the only question he was able to get, he said he was "very happy" with 68 votes.

Together they urged support for the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Tuesday to recommend Sotomayor's nomination and the full Senate will debate and vote next week. "There can be no mystery about what kind of Justice Judge Sotomayor will be," said Senator Leahy, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, "and the Senate should overwhelmingly confirm her nomination without delay."

"You have lots of 'splaining to do"... it's reminiscent of what Ricky Ricardo would say to his wife Lucy on the old "I love Lucy" shows. So the phrase carries some ethnic baggage. Senator Tom Corburn (R-Oklahoma) used the phrase when responding to Judge Sonia Sotomayor's explanation about gun laws. She was talking about how different state's laws on guns vary.
