The PagE was formed in early 2009 when guitarist Shounak Chakravarty and vocalist Sayon Ghosh started jamming together. The idea was to promote Punk music in Kolkata which, sadly, does not have many takers. A month later, they roped in Anindya Sundar Maity, a rookie drummer who was fresh in the music scene in the city. The final piece fell into when Sayon Ghosh took up the bass and began his role as a bassist vocalist. Thus, the PagE was scripted into life. The genre of music is not the stereotypical Pop Punk of the present times, neither is it the Hardcore Punk of the 60s and 70s. A more appropriate genre for The PagE would be Experimental Punk Rock with a touch Alternative and Blues. The varied influences of the members of the band have defined this genre whether it be Sayon who is an ardent Punk Rocker or be it Shounak with his love for blues and Punk or the Alternative lover Anindya. The influences are The Ramones, Joy Division, Sex Pistols, Rancid, Green Day, Blink 182, Arctic Monkeys, a bit of Jimi Hendrix and a whole lotta Blues. In one complete year of existence, the PagE has had a pretty good run with a handful of wins and a lot of appreciation in the college fest circuit. Plus, they have featured in Television shows for channels like TV South Asia. They also featured in the Best of Open Mic in association with t2 at the Someplace Else. A stage presence better than most in the town and a mischievous air, equals to increasing popularity of these punk pranksters ...

In the early hours of January 17 1941, one of the founders of Indian National Army and one of the most enigmatic leaders of freedom struggle, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose conned the British intelligence and escaped from his house in Kolkata to wage a war on the Raj. It was from the typically colonial 38/2, Elgin Road house in south Kolkata that Netaji spent nearly 25 years of his life. It was here that Bose, a rebellious college student, became a leader of the Indian National Congress and rolled out one of the greatest adventures of India's freedom struggle from its driveway. Deep in the walls of this building, there was once a dream. A dream that was radically different from Gandhi's plans of peaceful protest and it was through the verandah of the house, while the city slept on a cold moonlit night in January 1941, that Bose tiptoed out of his bedroom and fled to Afghanistan and Europe, which eventually resulted in the birth of the Azad Hind Fauj. Bose tricked the British intelligence and slipped out in this 1937 Wanderer, made in Germany. He had for chauffeur nephew Sisir, who was then only 20 years old. That daredevil act, which started in this driveway, is still fondly recounted by the successors of the young chauffeur. "Dr Bose felt that he was fortunate in playing a very small role in a very big historical event. Because the day Subhas Chandra Bose left this house, historians now say that this was the beginning of the Azad Hind movement. Subhas Chandra Bose in his ...
