SimplyTrustedGuide.com -- How to Become a Better Cook Cooking is a life skill. Like eating, it is basic for survival. Cooking is also a great way to reconnect when the food you prepared is shared. Here are some steps to get you feeling more confident and on the road to becoming a better cook. STEP 1 RELAX Take a deep breath and give yourself permission to try. It is not rocket science, it is just cooking! Not everyone is going to be a five-star chef ... and that is OK. STEP 2 BIGGEST COOKING MYTH DEBUNKED One of the biggest untruths about cooking is keeping tons of people out of the kitchen and away from daily meal making is the "TIME" myth. THE MYTH: I don't have the time/it takes too much time. THE TRUTH: While many recipes are time consuming, contain many ingredients, and require a lot of preparation, this is not true of the act of cooking itself! STEP 3 KNOW YOUR INGREDIENTS Whether you are seasoned chef or a complete cooking novice, ingredient knowledge is key. STEP 4 KNOW BASIC COOKING METHODS Simply put this is the how foods are cooked. Some are better than others depending on particular foods. STEP 5 TOOL KNOWLEDGE Same as with ingredients, tools are essential to a cooks results. They need not be expensive, but they do need to be good in order to be used safely and well. STEP 6 BE STOCKED Being unprepared adds to the 'time' and too-much prep' myth. Sure, if you had to shop each time you cooked, that would be really time consuming. Even the best chef in the world ...

www.lobsterdinner.ca The price of lobster has fallen dramatically, which is bad for the fishermen but good for us, since it now costs less than, say, a prime rib roast (between $7 and $10 a pound for lobster at time of writing). For six people I'd buy 10 beasts. Most can eat only one 1 1 to 1 1/2 pound crustaceans, but there are always one or two in the crowd who go for a second. If you don't have a pot big enough (a 20-litre pot can handle four lobsters), use two. Finally, be sure to snip off the elastics holding the claws shut. The rubber can subtly flavour the water and the lobster flesh if you add it to the cooking pot. www.lobsterdinner.ca
Sweet peppers, onions, zucchini, squash and fresh corn made for the perfect meal to our Ribeye steaks. We like our meats on the well done, so you won't see any pink them, but wow, the Weber Genesis grill did an amazing job cooking everything in about 20 minutes. Next time we're going to cook the steaks on the med-well done side to enjoy more of meat juices. Still, it's the 1st time we're using our grill and we are so in love with it. Next we're going to grill some Halibut fish and see how that turns out. If you are in the market for a grill, just get a Weber. I've spent hundreds of dollars with other brands and this Weber Genesis blows them all out of the water. Music: Vivaldi's Sacred Choral Music for Church
Beef prices, like Pork prices, are very low right now. Befriend your local butcher and learn about the special offers he/she has. A Thrifty Solution would be to buy in large volume, and a variety of cuts, thus working with the butcher, in order to benefit you both. Often butchers have cuts that few people buy, because they don't know how to prepare them. Becoming a 'Good Customer,' who buys obscure cuts along with conventional cuts, is a Thrifty Strategy and will save you money--be friendly and ask the butcher questions about different cuts of meat and about butchery. Best to do this when the Butcher Shop is not busy and the Butcher appears to have time to talk - Just Strike up a friendly conversation about Meat. Experts like to talk about the area in which they are an expert. Befriending your Local Butcher is a very thrifty thing to do, especially if you want to find deals like the Prime Rib in this Thrifty Cooking Solution. ThriftCultureNow.com
This turned out to be a really gorgeous dish; super quick and easy - Totally Thrifty. The Cross Rib Roast was $15 and the total cost of the dish was under $18. It'll serve 5-7 people for around $3 per person. Since it's in the pressure cooker, it's even more Thrifty - the cooking time was so short! Pay close attention to the details! www.ThriftCultureNow.com
