The best of The Star Wars Holiday Special Rifftrax Disclaimer: The Star Wars Holiday Special is the property of CBS Television and LucusFilm Ltd while the riffs are the property of Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy.
Part 1 of the Nelvana produced cartoon from the Star Wars Holiday Special which aired on November 17, 1978. This was the first appearance of Boba Fett.

Commercial break from the November 17, 1978 airing of "The Star Wars Holiday Special" on KIRO, Seattle, WA
CBS Special Presentation intro and opening segment of the infamous "Star Wars Holiday Special" from November 17, 1978. I clearly remember watching this when it originally aired. It was cheesy even back then but for an 8 year old kid obsessed with Star Wars, anything new was better than nothing.
I took the Star Wars Holiday Special, which is 2 hours long, and turned it into The Star Wars Holiday Special Special Edit-ion (Spoof), which is one our long. special thanks to Doctor Who, George Lucas, the lazer collection 3 and The Nostalgia Critic.
So I know there's already a few posts of this segment from The Star Wars Holiday Special, but I spent a lot of time compressing this God-awful musical number, and dammit, you're gonna enjoy it. I've cut it down to the bare essentials, and I'm pretty proud. Enjoy! Excelsior, and such.

Here's my take on the Star Wars Holiday Special that came out back in 1978. Yeah, I'm a little late, but better late than never, right?
Watched by shatteredmango, wildstar, Mycatisgo, Richard, and Patrick Project X lives. Why? Because it must. ... ... ... This movie is bad. (Part of a series of Let's Plays and other media by the BlackWorks group.)

Bea Arthur is hit on by an obnoxious alien who drinks from the top of his head. This is almost unwatchable. How could anyone stomach this?
As you watch this, notice how much she uses the word friend. This train wreck of a variety show had a lot of occurrences of the word friend. I submit that whoever was ultimately responsible for this was no "friend" of George Lucas or Star Wars Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bea Arthur, who plays a bartender in the Mos Eisley cantina, sings "Good Night, But Not Goodbye" to the same set of aliens that were seen in the Cantina in A New Hope, including, as the back-up musicians, the Cantina's resident group, Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes.
Carrie Fisher sings the film's "theme song", set to the music of John Williams's Star Wars theme.

A deleted scene from Nelvana's animated segment from the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. This is a fake alien advertisement to be run in the cartoon's "commercial break." Very strange indeed, it features two alien superheroes, a lot of advertising jargon in an alien language, and a commercial pitch run backwards. This would have been run backwards in the actual show. Run forwards, we hear the sound of a Canadian commercial (a real one, as far as I know) which asks us not to waste electricity. Hot Water Used for Laundering Less than a load of dirty things Horrible habits, yeah! Don't scoff, cos wasting electricity turns people ... off! This reel also includes the full, full-screen versions of the 5-4-3-2-1 "countdown" and "end countdown" sections at the beginning and end of the cartoon, which were also done in some alien language or another.
Commercial for Kenner Star Wars toys, aired during the November 17, 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.

Promo spot for one of the biggest television bombs in history. Poor Carroll O'Connor.....
TheStar Wars Holiday Special is a 1978 TV movie set in the Star Wars galaxy. The main storyline of the film transpires on the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk. Chewbacca and Han Solo visit the planet to celebrate the Wookiee holiday Life Day with his family, which includes his wife Malla, his son Lumpy and his father Itchy. As Chewbacca and Han are known Rebel agents, they are pursued by the Galactic Empire, who in the process invade Chewbacca's household. The plot is strung together by a series of musical numbers, celebrity appearances, and other variety-show acts, including songs and comedy routines by such 1970s celebrities as Jefferson Starship, Diahann Carroll, Art Carney, Harvey Korman, and Beatrice Arthur. Star Wars creator George Lucas's involvement in the special's production was limited, and he was unhappy with the final product. As a result, it has never been re-aired in the US or been officially released on home video, but has been widely bootlegged by fans. The Holiday Special is important for being the first film-length Star Wars story to appear following the release of the original Star Wars, for featuring cameos by all of that film's major cast, and for introducing the character Boba Fett. Cast Mark Hamill .... Luke Skywalker Harrison Ford .... Han Solo Carrie Fisher .... Princess Leia Anthony Daniels .... C-3PO Peter Mayhew .... Chewbacca James Earl Jones .... Darth Vader (voice) Beatrice Arthur .... Ackmena Art Carney .... Saun Dann Diahann Carroll ...
