Review of striker SYNOPSIS Striker is Siddharths film. He is an ace carrom player, and the entire film is about carom, like Lagaan was about cricket. Carrom is a game of fame in the lower income groups in Mumbai. And in many ghettos, like where Sidharth is shown to live, its a huge betting racket. Siddharth plays the sport to recover the money that he periodically gets robbed of. The film has many subplots all running parallel. From hindu-muslim riots to a failed love story to taking on the bhais in his area to a emotional story of two friends to playing carrom through all of this, Striker is an intense drama. CAST Siddharth waited too long to make a comeback to Bollywood. I dont understand why. Striker does showcase his fine acting skills. But its not an entertainer, a benchmark that actors seek. He continues to wear his brooding look of Rang De Basanti, as the script demands. Though he does do full justice to a very complex role. Siddharth you are capable of a lot better! Pick and choose you films- and carefully please. Padmapriya debuts in Bollywood with Striker after doing a handful of movies down south. Its a debut that doesnt do much for the beauty. She looks great and thats why she was used extensively in the promos. But her role is cut short even before the interval. DIRECTOR Director Chandan Arora has a penchant for making unusual films. "Road to Sangam". Stars: Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Pawan Malhotra, Javed Shaikh (Pakistan), Swati Chitnis, Masood Akhtar, Yusuf Hussain. Producer: Amit Chheda. Writer-Director: Amit Rai. It is a film story of a God fearing, devout Muslim mechanic, Hashmatullah (Paresh Rawal), who has been entrusted the job of repairing an old V8 Ford vehicle engine, not knowing the historic significance that it once carried the ashes of the assassinated Indian leader Mohandas Gandhi. Gandhi was assassinated by an extremist Hindu in 1948. The ashes were immersed in river Sangam. However, a labour strike to work is called to protest against the unjust treatment meted out by the Indian police. The film was shot on location in Allahabad. The latest patriotic Indian film to mark and celebrate 26 January 2010, aiming to hide and divide the plight of some 150 million suppressed Muslims living and working in India. How can true patriots expect the suppressed minorities to be a proud part of a state that treats them like third or fourth class citizens? Is it time to grow up, and make realistic, though-provoking films for more than one billion people, instead of spoon feeding Hindutva-BJP propaganda and patriotic lies to hide the cracks? WAKE UP SID, directed by debutante Ayan Mukerji, is like revisiting those years that lay at some remote corner of your mind, after you moved on in life.Actually, WAKE UP SID is a slice of life film. It's not merely real in concept, but has also been told most realistically, so much so that you can't help but draw parallels with your life or with someone you know. On the whole, WAKE UP SID is a well-made film that should strike a chord with the youth mainly. Our rating at Bollywood Backstage 3 and half stars.
