Many of our special kids will have the chance to go to college. But as parents will tell you, getting in isn't the only challenge... or, in some cases, the REAL CHALLENGE. Staying in school requires new skills. Learning and practicing the right skills and disciplines will assure our students a successful college experience. Today's autism expert has just written the book on this subject. It's called: Developing College Skills in Students with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. Autism hangout pls welcome author Dr. Sarita Freedman.

Students at the University at Buffalo enjoy a mid-week break during "Hump Day Hangout" sponsored by Office of Alumni Relations. Held one Wednesday ("hump day") a month in the Student Union, the event gives students a way to unwind with free pizza and games and music, while honing their networking skills with alumni volunteers. "We wanted to raise awareness among students of all the programs the alumni office has for them, but in a way that was casual and fun," says Patty Starr, Assistant Director, Volunteer and Student Programs. "Hump Day Hangout" has been a huge success with hundreds of students attending the event since September.

Meet Dr. Rhoda Bernard, Director - Boston Conservatory Program for Students on the Autism Spectrum. Under her direction, the Boston Conservatory is boldly filling a great need: * It has created a place for those talented musicians on the spectrum to develop their gifts. * It has developed an exclusive curriculum for tomorrow's teachers, offering the "best of the best" an opportunity to learn "first-hand," how best to develop the skills of those with autism. It thrills me that competent, motivated, inspired people like Dr. Bernard can bring venerable institutions like the Boston Conservatory to assist our special kids in the development of their gifts.

Heartbreak High was an Australian television series, dealing with the students of Hartley High, a tough high school in a multi-racial area of Sydney, and proved to be a more gritty and fast-paced show than many of its contemporaries. It was a spin-off of the 1993 Australian feature film The Heartbreak Kid which had featured Alex Dimitriades and Claudia Karvan. However, in later seasons the show shifted emphasis away from the school setting and the Poulos Family to the students' homes and hangout - the Shark Pool.

I try to look at the bright side whenever I can; I'm hard pressed to say Pakistan is going to turn the lights off and say 'Out of Business' or 'Under new Taliban Management' ever; really. Come to Pakistan, spend some real time, and get to know the majority of people and when you can get over your stereotypes; then you'll find that there are people who are doing great work, and pursuing great dreams. I happened to be at a new housing society where my cousin's new house is being completed, and my dad came across a group of students living in a house that Comsats University in Lahore puts boarding students up in. What's amazing about this rather random meeting was that these kids were unkown to us, and weren't even studying architecture. My dad just wanted to show me the architecture adopted by Eden developers in all of the units. Once inside, we found that these kids were all on scholarships, from all over the country. Tuition, room and board. One was from Larkana (Bhutto legacy hangout), one was from DG Khan, one was from Quetta, and so on. Basically; education had brought these young men together. It's great to reinforce my own faith in Pakistan this way, I think; seeing that despite the newspapers spelling only gloom and doom for us these days, there is genuine hope for Pakistan. As we walked around, they asked us what we did. Upon hearing that my dad is an architect, one enterprising student asked "Sir, if you don't mind- I have some engineering drawing homework for my ...

Hi, Im Jon and I am a fourth year student, pursuing my graduate degree in Computer Science. I am running for ASI President because I love Cal Poly and want to positively impact it by representing the students voice. This upcoming year is an important time for many reasons. With the California budget in a difficult situation, and Cal Poly seeing a large drop in its operating budget, its important that the students voice is represented well. Also, this year there will be major renovations and construction in areas where students hangout and workout. I want to represent you because I value our education, the reason we came to Cal Poly, and I want to ensure the quality of your total college experience.
