Following two fanatical redwood fans, this documentary introduces us to explorer Mike Fay, who is charting this forest giant's range, and Steve Sillett - a man who has dislocated limbs and risked death trying to climb the tallest of these magnificent trees. In an epic, year-long journey, and using high-tech aerial laser surveys, discover the little explored environment of the redwoods. Featuring breathtaking footage we take a look into the past, present and future of this spectacular forest dweller and discover what makes the redwood so special."

A stunning video featuring footage shot from a helicopter as it flies over beautiful scenery in the heart of Scotland. The area, known as Perthshire Big Tree Country www.perthshirebigtreecountry.co.uk - is divided into six distinct clusters Aberfeldy & Kenmore; Blair Atholl; Crieff & Strathearn; Dunkeld & Birnam; Perth & Blairgowrie; Pitlochry & the Road to the Isles. Perthshire Big Tree Country is famous for its heritage trees, several of which are featured in the video. Watch out for the Fortingall Yew, oldest living organism in Europe; the Birnam Oak, made famous in Shakespeares macbeth; the record-breaking Meikleour Beech Hedge, tallest in the world; and Niel Gows Oak, named after the well-known fiddler. Narrated by one of Scotlands most famous plant collectors, David Douglas, the video begins in the grounds of Scone Palace where Douglas served his apprenticeship as a gardener. Born in Scone, Douglas is responsible for introducing many plant and tree species including the Douglas fir, Sitka spruce Scotlands most prolific forestry tree and sunflowers. As it swoops over Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park (Scotlands first) and its iconic tower, the video provides a birds eye view of other historical buildings such as Scone Palace, the former crowning place of Scottish kings; Blair Castle; and the Hermitage. It also passes over the most famous view in Scotland, Queens View. Allegedly a favourite of Queen Victoria, the view is actually named after the wife of Robert the Bruce. In ...

The enchanting town of Walpole was originally established as a group settlement for farmers in the 1930s. This was followed by the development of a thriving timber milling industry. The calm rivers, inlets and adjoining wilderness areas also provide a wide range of activities for visitors to enjoy. Fernhook Falls is found in the deep river, only 36 kms north-west of Walpole. Between June and October experience the falls in action. From November to May, camping, picnicing, swimming and bush walking are highlights. Fantastic at any time of the year. At Circular Pool the raging winter torrents pound through stones and luxuriant forest. Settling here at the Circular Pool, there are two pools which froth and foam. Circling, the deluge then continues down river to the sea. Walpole is better known today for the surrounding Valley of the Giants where it is home to some of the tallest trees in the world, including Jarrah, Karri and Tingle trees and the famous tree top walk. The tree top walk provides the opportunity for visitors to walk safely across a canopy 40 metres above the ancient foliage. You can stand, gazing at these huge giants and their lush undergrowth and surroundings, or stroll the paths below and look up in awe.

These trees are in Sequoia National Park, California; two of many such ancient giants. The scientific name is "Sequoiadendron Gigantium". Also known simply as "sequoia" or "giant sequoia", it is one of several species of redwood. Giant sequoias are not the tallest trees in the world - although not far from it. Their fame lies in the girth of the trunk, and overall mass. On this basis, the largest living thing on the planet is the giant redwood called the "General Sherman Tree", which is 100 yards or so from where this video was shot. Note: the true "sequoia" (officially "Sequoia Sempervirens") is a different species of redwood - the "Coastal Redwood". It claims the crown for the tallest tree, though not the most massive.
Giraffes watching a wild opossum. Zoo animals, like any other animals, are alert and curious. Here a group of giraffes are very curious about a wild opossum that wondered by. They had probably never seen one and wondered whether it was a friend or a predator. The opossum didnt seem concerned. Maybe it thought they were trees. One giraffe even nodded its head at the opossum. This is a common gesture or signal signal used by many animals. It may be a greeting, signal of non aggression, or help the animal see another animal. These are Maasai giraffes, the worlds tallest animals. They have good eyesight, a clear view from on high, and can detect predators from a great distance. The tallest giraffe stood almost 20 feet high, which is equal to a several story building, and they can weigh as much as 2600 lbs. . They are an even toed ungulate mammal related to deer and cattle but placed in a separage family Giraffidae, which consists of the giraffe and the okapi. Its name, camelopardalis (camelopard) is derived from its Roman name, describing it as having characteristics of both a camel and a leopard. Each giraffe has in individual coat pattern. Both females and males have horns. Males sometimes neck. They can delivr hard blows with their neck. The Opossum, Didelphis virginiana, is North Americas only marsupial. It carries its young in a pouch.
