After her landslide victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where she routed the DMK, Jayalalitha said she would take action against corrupt ministers in the earlier government. She's meeting the Governor on Sunday to stake claim.
For the DMK, the massive defeat at the hands of Jayalalithaa has reduced them to being just another member of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. They are not even the main Opposition party, a role which will now be taken up by the DMDK.

Chennai Super Queen, Jayalalithaa, has inflicted a humiliating defeat on the DMK. While the customary vote for change may have been predicted in Tamil Nadu, few expected the AIADMK to sweep this election and get a majority on its own.

he fireworks that celebrated her victory outside her house in Chennai sometimes made it hard to hear Jayalalithaa, but her message, hours after she was declared the winner of the Tamil Nadu elections, was unwavering. "Wherever I went in the last three years...the people were totally disgusted with DMK and were waiting for a chance to vent their anger against the DMK government. Once they got the opportunity, they showed their anger and resentment in no uncertain terms," she said to the hundreds of people gathered, flashes of light from the fireworks streaking her face. After Jayalalithaa's outsize victory in Tamil Nadu, the Congress, which contested the elections with the DMK, officially conceded defeat. "We wish Jayalalithaa the best," said Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan. She also said her party does not regret sticking with the DMK, whose senior-most leaders are accused of corruption in the 2G spectrum scam. Ms Natarajan said "We are loyal allies and we chose people according to our coalition dharma."
TV9 - TAMILNADU ELECTION RESULT - JAYALALITHAA IN LEAD.........! After suffering successive defeats in elections since 2004, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa has made a spectacular comeback in Tamil Nadu by shedding her rigid attitude and cobbling up a formidable alliance with once-not-so friendly actor Vijayakant and the Left parties. Affectionately called 'Amma',63-year-old former Chief Minister was very particular this time in not letting the anti-DMK votes get split and went out of her way to make room for allies. She proved her mettle once again by roping in smaller parties and caste-based outfits. AIADMK was not at best of terms with Vijayakant, whose DMDK was widely seen as splitting the anti-DMK votes in the 2006 Assembly and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, till recently but the former Chief Minister reached out to the actor-politician and made him join her alliance to ensure DMK's ouster. She will now become Chief Minister for the third time.
