poem by Cherisse Raghoo She's putting up with More than she needs to right now Her works go unnoticed She is the sweat hanging on her brow Problems come Sometimes in a flurry When no one cares You keep her up at night When she's worried This is the burden of a mother She chews disappointment Swallows unappreciation Digests disrespect Coming at her at any given situation Such is a mother She's the concern of Mary The life of Sarah The burden of Eve Looks out for her sons Like the mother of the Zebedees Proverbs 31 Even though she bends over backwards Like a yoga position What would you do without your mother She keeps smiling Even though she's doing All the household chores Whatever you want It is yours You can't buy her love In any store You really should be honored The other 364 Where would we be without our mother But praises to The God we serve For granting us The most beautiful women on earth Even if you didn't grow up with yours God bless the mother figures God bless the babysitters Bless the teachers The social workers And the caretakers People they may come and go But ain't nothing like a mom's love If she's sitting next to you right now Why don't you give her a hug

Sheebeg and Sheemore and Eleanor Plunkett by Turlough O'Carolan Please take a moment while here and have a listen to Sheebeg Sheemore as played by Peter Grant on a National 8 string Resophonic guitar. I have the best inspiration in the world, and that is never lost, on me :-) petegrant.com is a very nice place to visit too... www.petegrant.com These are played "after" the originals, and "after" fine arrangements by my beloved music teacher, Peter Grant. Rather than be specific to the music, as in: "accurate as possible", I play them in part without expecting or attempting to be !! Mistakes are included and my approach to music is that it is always played for the sheer joy of the music itself and with the simple hope of possibly linking a note or two that will remind the listener of the tune named. This might bother some listeners, others will find enjoyment in the imperfect nature of the presentation:-) I am not a studious student, but I am a happy one! I suppose the "folk" in me, wins out!! and "Look so Good" by David Lindley AHHH, David Lindley!............... Who might hope to hold a candle to the Maestro? played much in the authors honor as I could muster given the miles that lay ahead of this lil music lover ......also knowing no one gets to their destination without a humble beginning, everyone starting somewhere!! That I should have such inspiration is all and everything towards the onward march. Do yourself a big favor....find this song, played by the master ...

KRISANIR KUTIR: House of the Farmer From Sujon Badiar Ghat Jasim Uddin is proud of belonging to the folk tradition of Bengali literature. He was pleased by a recent comment of one critic who, praising his autobiography, said: 'Reading Jasim Uddin's Jiban Katha (autobiography) is like eating country cakes from mother's own hand.' In a foreword to the translation of Nakshi Kathar Math, Mr Verrier Elwin writes, 'I do not know whether The Field of the Embroidered Quilt can be classed as folk-poetry, but it is obviously poetry about the folk. After nearly ten years of village life I find every detail of the picture, every turn of the story, waking a response in my mind.' What Mr Elwin says of The Field can also be said of Gipsy Wharf. The two poems were written within four years of each other, while Jasim Uddin was still at Calcutta University, doing research under the famous Bengali scholar, Dr Dinesh Chandra Sen. Gipsy Wharf benefited from Dr Sen's comments as well,as those of the famous writer and painter Abanindra Nath Tagore. There were influences on Jasim Uddin's writing other than folk songs and ballads. Perhaps that is why some hesitate to call hirn a folk poet. He is also a scholar and for many years was a lecturer in Bengali literature at Dacca University. Then during the war he was summoned by the British Government to serve as a civil servant (Jasim Uddin, Prathom Alo, January 3, 2003). The earliest influence on his poetry, however, was a group of minor folk poets ...

A very touching poetry recitation (of a poem by Suman Sengupta) by first year student of Asutosh College Pradip. He's a 'junior' to me, so to speak, since I'm in the third year... but his touching recitation blew me (and the rest of the listeners) over. Pradip, by the way, does not have the gift of sight like most of us do... but I did not upload this lovely piece as a gesture of pity. The recitation was indeed top-notch... as I'm sure everyone would agree.
