Country Music's Fifteen Greatest Tragedies (2/2) Street, Mel ~ Oct. 21, 1933 - Oct. 21, 1978: Before his career ended in tragedy, Mel Street was a talented hard country singer whose emotional style harked back to the honky tonk of yesteryear. Street took his own life on October 21, 1978, his forty-third birthday. He had been scheduled that day to record the final tracks for his first album at Mercury Records. Upon his death, Mercury released the album, Mel Street, borrowing two tracks from his previous Polydor sessions to fill the void. A single from the album entered the country charts the very day he died. Its title "Just Hangin' On," turned out to be sadly prophetic. Stringbean (David Akeman) ~ 6/17/1916 -- 11/10/1973: On Saturday night the Akemans returned home after performing a show at the Grand Ole Opry, and were shot dead upon their arrival. The Akemans' bodies were discovered the following morning by neighbor and fellow performer Grandpa Jones. A police investigation into the double homicide resulted in the conviction of cousins John A. Brown and Marvin Douglas Brown. Walker, Billy ~ 1/14/1929 -- 5/21/2006: From his West Texas home of Ralls this country crooner went on to become one of Country music's most successful recording stars during the 1960s. He had moderate success in the 1950's but his career took off when he joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1960 and in 1962 recorded his first number one hit "Charlie's Shoes. On May 21, 2006, Walker died when the van he was ...
Country Music's All-time Ten Biggest Bands (2/10): Tex Williams: Artistry in Western Swing Along with the orchestra led by his former boss, Spade Cooley, smooth-toned vocalist Tex Williams and his band The Western Caravan were one of the most popular western swing bands on the hopping California music scene in the 1940s. Although not as well-known as figures like Bob Wills and Hank Thompson, Tex was an important player in the development of the genre. Like the aforementioned musicians, Tex helped transform country music from its rural, acoustic origins to a more danceable, refined swing-style with a much wider popular appeal. Tex Williams was born on August 23, 1917 in Ramsey, Illinois. During his teen years, he sang on a local station and joined a band under the name of Jack Williams before moving west to Los Angeles, California in 1942, just in time for western swing fever that was sweeping the state. One of the groups which played at the Venice Pier Ballroom in Venice, California was led by Jimmy Wakely with Spade Cooley on fiddle. Hundreds of people would turn out on Saturday night to swing and hop. The masses of people and dancers loved Cooley. When Wakely got a movie contract at Universal, Spade replaced him as the bandleader. To capitalize on the success of the Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan paring, Cooley hired vocalist Tex Williams. Ultimately, the orchestra's success led to the dissolution of its most popular lineup. By 1946, Williams, the vocalist on all of the ...

Often performing under cocaine and alcoholic influence, the 80s featured some bad times for Elton John. Musically, he had moved almost entirely into pop and for the most part "Classic Elton" was a thing of the past, long gone. He proved himself to be quite a good pop artist from 1982-1984 but soon after he lost his voice and with it, his trade mark falsetto - perhaps the biggest catastrophe/misfortune of his career. For the rest of the decade, his music can essentially be defined as 80s synth-pop, made unique through his still excellent piano playing. Albums/Songs Jump Up! - Hey Papa Legba, Spiteful Child, Blue Eyes Too Low For Zero - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, Too Low For Zero Breaking Hearts - Sad Songs (Say so Much) Ice On Fire - This Town, Tell Me What The Papers Say, Nikita, The Man Who Never Died Leather Jackets - Hoop of Fire, Leather Jackets Reg Strikes Back - Town of Plenty, I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That Sleeping With The Past - Club at the End of the Street, Sacrifice -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elton John was without question one of the biggest talents in the music industry and still remains a legend today. His career kept his name at the top of the chart throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Since there are no compilations of Elton John on You Tube I made it my goal to select the best of his music (in my opinion) and build a complete series that includes songs from all of his 70s, 80s ...
Although Elton John had grown tired of the public stage by the late 70s, his song writing was as good as ever and his voice was in full maturity. While some of his albums were not as well received by the critics (especially 1979's Victim of Love which was simply an experiment into disco), he was still popping out hits just about every year. Albums/Songs: Rock of the Westies - Street Kids, I Feel Like a Bullet (In the gun of Robert Ford) Blue Moves - Theme from a Non-existent TV Series, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word (also recommended: Chameleon, Shoulder Holster) A Single Man - Part Time Love, Madness Victim of Love - Victim of Love The Fox - Breaking Down Barriers, Carla/Etude, Chloe, Fascist Faces 21 at 33 - White Lady White Powder, Take Me Back Some Notes I tried to sequence the video based on the year the song came out in order to show the evolution of his style/voice. In order to capture the beauty of Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word I put it at the end (it was released 1976). Note also that the slide show matches the year of the song(s) that are playing (unlike the last video). I got a bit more creative and looked for magazine covers. Personal Favorite is Breaking Down Barriers, the piano playing is not even replicable. White Lady White Powder is an ironic song based on an addiction to cocaine (which EJ was on during its release). I think "Sorry" is somewhat related to his coming out as bisexual (which hurt his spot-light in the media ...
Although this is where EJ landed most of his biggest hits and well known songs, this is just the beginning of his 40-year career. Most people (myself included) consider this time to be the best of Elton John; we can call it "the era of classic Elton John." Albums/Songs: Elton John - Your Song Madman Across the Water - Tiny Dancer Honky Chateau - Rocket Man Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player - Teacher I Need You Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Funeral For a Friend, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting Caribou - Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Pinball Wizard Captain Fantastic & Brown Dirt Cowboy - Someone Saved My Life Tonight Some Notes: When making this series I forgot to add a song from Tumbleweed Connection, which is actually a huge gap because it represents EJ before he went into pop starting in 1973 (with the Don't Shoot Me album). A sample (Burn Down The Mission) is in the 4th video. "Pinball Wizard" was actually a cover of The Who but it is one of the rare covers that is just as good if not better than the original so it deserves a spot here. Personal Favorite - "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" maybe not his most famous, but in my opinion, it is a combination of the best lyrical and musical composition ever. It is extended in this video (longest excerpt). It will take another few days to put up the rest of the series, it takes a long time to compile the best songs. 4/30/10 I will try to add Part 2, 5/1 I will have Part 3 and 5/2 I will have Part 4 ...

The Best Movies of the 1990s. There are many good movies but these have made the biggest impact, i'm sure most would agree.
Rick Ross embodies the streets of Miami right down to his name and style of his facial hair taken from one of the most infamous street figures in Miami's history. Now Rick is here to tell the story of these streets as only he can with "MIYayo". "MIYayo takes its name taken from the slang words for Miami and cocaine and is a groundbreaking documentary about the real Miami, true murder and cash capital of America, told in a manner stylistically similar to the History Channel's "Gangland" or in the film "Cocaine Cowboys", but this is much more by and of the Streets. Executive Producer Rick Ross brought in Chris Larceny to direct this true story of the ten biggest dope kings of the late 80s and early 90s in Miami. Ross narrates stories of notoriously iconic figures such as Quartz, Flowerman, Bo-Diddly, Bunkie Brown, Big Ike, Convertible Burt, Rick Brownlee and of course "Freeway" Rick Ross. The documentary also talks about Miami's most notorious gangs Vonda, John Doe and the Boobie Boys. These are the streets and this is the world of Rick Ross. The musical backdrop supplied by Kendrix and Street Radio underscores the bleak and ultra violent story that unfolds on screen. Chris Larceny has spent years on the film and says that when he was approached by Ross to do this project, "I immediately started to research the history of Carol City, Overtown and Liberty City. After collecting footage for three years and putting the actual project together, I can truly say this will be 'one ...

We are together from the very beginning, and for everything we do, we take responsibility together. We are The Brigade! this TV series consists 15 parts (5 volumes by 3 episodes in each) Absolutely the best from Russia!, 15 August 2006 Author: BeamJim from Sweden How much do you know, have seen or have heard about life in Russia in the 90's? I guess if you aren't Russian, don't pretend to be a smartass... you know nothing. Brigade describes the last decade of the 20th century Moscow with incredible exactness: difficult life of the "mortals", rise of the oligarchs, power of corruption and lack of moral principles. All political events are absolutely accurate and should be revealing to any person who didn't experience "perestroika". But apart from that it is a story about endless friendship, about four simple boys building the most powerful organizations in the world's biggest country. This movie is filled with personalities, complicated relationships and describes perfectly the indirect meaning of the word "brat" (brother) in Russia. Great action scenes and fantastic actors! One of the greatest movies ever!

MY MIX FROM MISIEK MOVIE SHOW footage from 1996 to 2003 Music: Anno DOMINI - Memories (Hip-Hop/Instrumental) HQ: www.megaupload.com Number: 00 39 Highlights / Video / Clip LUDZIE PRZEMYSŁU misiekakpl@o2.pl Biography: Gregory Donovan Ostertag (born March 6, 1973, in Dallas, Texas) is a retired American basketball player, who spent most of his professional career with the NBA's Utah Jazz. He measures 7'2" (2.18 m) and played center. Throughout most of his college and professional career he wore the uniform number 00 (but wore the number 39 for two seasons with the Jazz while Olden Polynice played for the team wearing number 0).After graduating from Duncanville High School (where he had already grown to seven feet and led the school to its first boys basketball title in 1990), Ostertag played college basketball for the University of Kansas from 1991 through 1995, playing in two Final Fours, and swatting 258 career shot blocks during that time, a record for both Kansas and the Big Eight Conference. He was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the first round in 1995. He spent the next nine seasons playing for the Jazz, playing alongside superstars John Stockton and Karl Malone, before signing as a free agent with the Sacramento Kings in 2004. His season with the Kings was unproductive as he had little playing time. Later in his career, on August 2, 2005, Ostertag was involved in a 5-team, 13-player trade (the largest in NBA history) that sent him back to the Jazz. After the 2005-06 ...
really reminds me of the first days of video gaming; it has that 8-bit-ish modernistic chiptune sound, typical on games from the '80s or '90s. Plus the vocals, it really sounds like a loli singing. Gotta love those kind of vocalists. It's like two stones, the past and the present, bashed together to form something new that's distinctive and really brings out the best of both worlds. Enjoy the 113th feature, yet again by Iemitsu. Their Re-albums really are stuffed with nice vocals. Original ...

The US and its military allies agree on many things, from the size of bullets for their rifles to the design of future fighter jets. But on the issue of gays in the military, the United States stands alone among its Western allies. Updated May 19, 2010 Representatives from Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Israel and the Netherlands gathered Wednesday at the Brookings Institution, a think tank in Washington, to describe how the militaries in those countries handled allowing homosexuals to serve openly. The consensus was that, in spite of concerns before the change, it became a nonissue once gays and lesbians were allowed to serve. "I did not see one case at any level when homosexuals did not get along with other soldiers. The problems are among men and women," said Maj. Gen. Walter Semianiw, an infantry officer in the Canadian military. "This is not an issue for our country." "We know the US as a country that favors the individual rights, freedom, giving the people the opportunity to flourish in their life," said Col. Kees Matthijssen of the Royal Dutch Army. "From that perspective it's still very strange the US is still having a kind of ban on openly having gays and lesbians in the military." "There were concerns in the late '90s of gay men walking across the gangplank in feather boas and high heels," said retired Lt. Cmdr. Craig Jones of the British Royal Navy. "That just did not happen." Jones said British military officials saw an unexpected benefit of allowing gays ...

He played in the NBA for 10 seasons from 19922002 with 3 teams: Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, and Philadelphia 76ers.His main assets were considered to be his mid-range jump shot and his rebounding skills. In the summer of 2000, Matt Geiger's refusal to waive a trade kicker clause in his contract stopped a four-team deal between Philadelphia, the Hornets, the Detroit Pistons and the LA Lakers that would have sent All-Star player Allen Iverson to the Pistons.
