Check out my backstage interview with Papa Roach lead singer Jacoby Shaddix. Papa Roach is a rock band from Vacaville, California. To date the band has sold over 10 million albums and charted seven Top 10 singles on the mainstream rock charts. But it wasn't always easy for this once small band from Northern California. The band's first EP, titled Old Friends From Young Ears, featured what would soon become some of the band's biggest hits like Last Resort. But record labels like Warner Brothers Records turned down the band, leaving Papa Roach unsigned. It wasn't until 1999 that Dreamworks finally signed the band. Papa Roach immediately went into the studio to record their debut album titled Infest. A few months later the album debuted to sales of 30000 copies and the band began a massive national tour. Soon after the album's release the song Last Resort went to number one, blowing up the Papa Roach brand. Infest went on to peak at #5 on the Billboard Charts and sell over 6 million albums worldwide. After several years of hardship and struggle, Jacoby and Papa Roach had finally made it. Papa Roach followed up Infest with two more popular albums, Lovehatetragedy and Getting Away With Murder. The albums featured three more Top 10 singles and were both later certified Gold. Papa Roach's continued success proved the band was more than just a one hit wonder. In 2006 Papa Roach released The Paramour Sessions, named after the mansion where the band recorded the album. Featuring ...

Check out my backstage interview with 30 Seconds To Mars drummer Shannon Leto 30 Seconds To Mars is an alternative rock band formed by brothers Jared and Shannon Leto. While initially the band received most of their attention due to Jared Leto's already prominent career as an actor, 30 Seconds To Mars has emerged as a powerful entity unto itself. To date the band has released three best selling albums and sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide. Their music videos (often turned into short films) have been viewed more than 100 million times on YouTube alone, and they have racked up another 40 million hits on MySpace. And while these numbers would impress any music executive, perhaps the band's biggest accomplishment is their ability to push boundaries both musically and politically. 30 Seconds To Mars was the first American band to shoot a music video for From Yesterday in the People's Republic of China. Soon after they traveled 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle to shoot their next music video for A Beautiful Lie. That album (which also featured The Kill) was later certified Platinum. In 2008 Virgin Records filed a $30 million lawsuit against the band, claiming breach of contract. This bitter battle between label and artist nearly tore the band apart, and overshadowed much of their work for the album This Is War. In 2009 however the two sides settled, and work resumed on finishing the album. To better involve their fans (aka The Echelon) the band hosted summits all ...

Supergrass are an English alternative rock band from Oxford. The main trio formed in 1993. The band consists of brothers Gaz (guitar and lead vocals) and Rob Coombes (keyboards), Danny Goffey (drums and backing vocals), and Mick Quinn (bass and backing vocals). Gaz's brother Rob Coombes occasionally brought in as keyboard player on recordings (but never live, initially). "Moving" is a song by Supergrass, from their eponymous third album, Supergrass (1999). It was also released as a single. The song later appeared on the greatest hits compilation Supergrass Is 10: The Best Of 1994-2004. The band released their first single "Caught by the Fuzz" in October 1994 on the Parlophone label. Supergrass followed up with their debut full-length album I Should Coco in May 1995. The band's second album In It for the Money (1997) was the first album to be produced entirely by Supergrass. Their third self-titled album Supergrass released on 1999 (often referred to as "the X-ray" album due to the picture on the sleeve). Their fourth album, Life On Other Planets (2002) was the first to include Rob Coombes as an official member of the band, who until then was employed on session and touring basis. In 2004 the band released a singles compilation entitled Supergrass Is 10 to celebrate ten years since the band formed. This was available on CD and DVD format. The DVD version featured a documentary film in which the band members recall moments during their career in the group. This also shows ...

Bahay Kubo is the lead single of Kundiman, Hale's fourth studio album as released by PolyEast Records. Directed by Bianca King and Nani Naguit with Heart Evangelista in cameo role, Bahay Kubo describes a context of being in a safe place with someone you love. As the bands frontman and the singles songwriter Champ Lui-Pio shares, Basically its a fictional story about two individuals lost in the middle of nowhere and searching for each other. Towards the end they find a Bahay Kubo, find each other and seek shelter in it. The video veers away from the usual Hale type of video and done something the band had never done before. Hales music evolves after five years, Kundiman is leading to a brand new Hale that weve never seen before. Visit www.haleofficial.com

Vocalist Rob Halford and guitarist Glenn Tipton, members of Judas Priest, talk to Rick Wakeman and provide a mesmerizing insight into the drive and determination that led the Metal Gods from the working-class steel town of Birmingham, England to becoming one of the biggest Heavy Metal bands in the world. Since 1974, the band have released a string of all-time classic albums and arena-rocking anthems such as 'Breaking the Law', and 'Living After Midnight', yet Priest's influence goes far beyond their music. They are known to be the first metal band to embrace the 'leather biker look,' a fashion that has since become synonymous with the musical genre. Halford & Tipton unwrap the concept behind their 2008, huge selling album 'Nostradamus' and describe the friendship, 'metal magic' and self belief that fuels the chemistry behind the band's writing process, whilst recollecting the first ever Priest rehearsals and how the band, like many, were essentially born out the back of a Ford Transit van. They went on to tour all four corners of the globe yet, Wakeman probe's the band to paint the picture of their rise from initial long club tours of the US to supporting the likes of Led Zeppelin on the West Coast, drawing crowds in excess of 160000 across 2 dates. From the 1978 film 'The Last Waltz' Virgil Caine is the name, and I served on the Danville train, Til Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again. In the winter of '65, We were hungry, just barely alive. By May tenth, Richmond had fell, it's a time I remember, oh so well, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, when all the bells were ringing, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, and all the people were singin'. They went, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Back with my wife in Tennessee, When one day she called to me, Said "Virgil, quick, come and see, there goes the Robert E. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, when all the bells were ringing, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, and all the people were singin'. They went, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Like my father before me, I will work the land, And like my brother above me, who took a rebel stand. He was just eighteen, proud and brave, But a Yankee laid him in his grave, And I swear by the mud below my feet, You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat. Money Talks by AC/DC AC/DC are an Australian hard rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Although the band members are considered pioneers of heavy metal,[1][2] they have always classified their music as "Rock n' roll".[3] AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975. Membership remained stable until bassist Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1977. In 1979, the band recorded their highly successful album Highway to Hell. Lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group briefly considered disbanding, but soon ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was selected as Scott's replacement. Later that year, the band released their best-selling album, Back in Black. The band's next album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, was also highly successful and was their first album to reach number one in the United States. AC/DC declined in popularity soon after drummer Phil Rudd was fired in 1983 and replaced by future Dio drummer Simon Wright. Poor record sales continued until the release of The Razors Edge in 1990, the only studio album to feature Wright's replacement Chris Slade. Phil Rudd returned in 1994 (after Slade was asked to leave in favor of him) and contributed to the band's 1995 album Ballbreaker. Stiff Upper Lip was released in 2000 and was well-received by critics. The band's most recent album Black Ice was ...

The SOS Band is an American musical ensemble, founded in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1977. Originally known as Santa Monica, the "SOS" initialism in the band's name does not stand for Save Our Souls—but for Sounds of Success. The band, fronted by Mary Davis, was initially famous for the hit "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" in 1980. In 1983, they joined forces with then-new production team Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, who went on to craft a string of R&B hits for the group, including "Just Be Good to Me," "Tell Me If You Still Care," "Borrowed Love," "No One's Gonna Love You," "Just the Way You Like It," and "The Finest".
On a visit to the Vintage and Rare Guitar shop in Denmark Street, London, ex-Eagles guitarist Don Felder talks about his life in the Eagles and his book 'Heaven and Hell'. With special thanks to the Vintage and Rare Guitar Shop! www.vintageandrareguitars.com The Eagles wrote the soundtrack to the Seventies and Eighties - and even now their albums top the charts. But backstage, there were no peaceful, easy feelings... Don Felder was just a poor boy from Florida, but when he joined the Eagles he soared into the stratosphere. Alongside Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Randy Meisner, and Felder's childhood friend Bernie Leadon, he sold tens of millions of records (Eagles: Their Greatest Hits: 1971-1975 is the bestselling album of all time), performed before countless adoring fans, and composed the music to the band's signature tune, 'Hotel California.' His guitar-playing ability lifted the band from mere popularity to iconic status. And now Don Felder finally breaks the Eagles' decades of public silence to take fans behind the scenes - where drugs, greed and endless acrimony threatened to tear the band apart almost daily. "Maybe there was too much talent. Maybe the personalities clashed with the egos. Whatever the reason, there were always these explosive arguments going on while I sat silently in a corner. I never expected it to survive. Never once did I feel, 'Hey, I got it made. This thing's gonna last for years.'" Felder was wrong about that, but he was also right: the band split ...
This is perhaps the best film I've seen in the last few years. A small Egyptian police band gets stranded overnight in small town Israel. With no hotel in the town, two of the locals agree to take in the band members for the night. The story breaks off into three storylines, each one a conversation between a local and a visitor: two struggling middle-aged men, a grieving man and a lonely woman, and two young men who couldn't be less alike. They all engage in unexpected conversations with someone they would otherwise never encounter. "Jew" & "Arab" slowly fade away and we see that they are all so familiarly human, with the same loneliness and longing as anyone else. This is my favourite scene from the film. A young band member (Haled), who clearly has a way with women, goes out with a young Israeli (Papi), who clearly doesn't. They've been at the roller skating club for a while now and Papi is too scared to even talk to his date. As we begin the scene, the man (dancing with a woman) that Papi speaks to is his friend who set him up on this blind date to begin with (sorry, no subtitles). He tells his friend that the girl he set him up with is crying. His friend offers no help at all. But that's OK, because Haled steps in and guides Papi the rest of the way in what is a perfect, one-take silent film. Taken from: jasongoode.wordpress.com
"The Curse Of Zounds", 1981. --------- Wikipedia: Zounds were an English anarchist band formed in 1977 from loose jamming sessions around the Reading area. Originally they were part of the cassette culture movement, releasing material on the Fuck Off Records tape label, and were also involved in the squatting and free festival scene. The name of the band is derived from the old English minced oath "zounds", which is a contraction of "God's wounds" - ie the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ - formerly used as a mildly blasphemous oath. The band were formed around the nucleus of Steve Lake in Reading, Berkshire and evolved from a number of jamming sessions with other musicians and friends, taking in influences from the Velvet Underground to the Sex Pistols. The band began performing gigs in 1977/78 with a line-up of Steve Lake(Vocals/Bass), Steve Burch(Guitar)and Jimmy Lacey(Drums) adopting the name 'Zounds', chosen from a dictionary by Burch. Soon Burch left the group and was replaced by Joseph Lawrence. After this the band slowly became more politicized due to troubles with police and unfolding events of the cold war, and became more and more involved with free festivals, alongside The Mob who they developed a close association with. The band released their first album The Curse of Zounds on Rough Trade Records in 1981, recording and mixing the LP within five days. The cover art, by anarchist artist Clifford Harper, featured a painting of fire fighters apparently trying ...

Van Halen is an American hard rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. They enjoyed success from the release of their self titled debut album in 1978 until the late 1990s when various troubles overcame the band. As of 2007 Van Halen has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide[2] and have had the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.[3] According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen is the 19th best selling band/artist of all time with sales of over 56 million albums in the USA[4] and is one of five rock bands that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the USA. In addition to being recognized for quality and success, the band is known for the drama surrounding the exits of former members. The (multiple) exits of singers Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth were surrounded in controversy and mass press coverage with various contrasting press statements between them and the band. More recently, founding bassist Michael Anthony was kicked out of the band for controversial reasons. Following their 2004 concert tour the band was on a hiatus from the public until September 2006, new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen's place was confirmed and Roth-reunion rumours began to re-surface coinciding with the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on March 12, 2007.[5] After years of speculation, Van Halen began a tour with Roth in late 2007 across North America, which has been extended into early 2008. An album is ...
Genesis is an English rock band formed in 1967. With approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide, Genesis are among the top 30 highest-selling recording artists of all time.[1] In 1988 the band won a Grammy Award for Best Concept Music Video. Genesis' members have included Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett, Ray Wilson and Phil Collins, all of whom have achieved success as solo artists. Genesis began as a 1960s pop band playing moody, simple keyboard-driven melodies. During the 1970s they evolved into a progressive rock band and began to incorporate complex song structures and elaborate instrumentation, while their concerts took on a more theatrical tone. This second phase was characterised by lengthy performances such as the twenty-three minute "Supper's Ready" and, in 1974, the concept album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The 1980s saw the band produce more accessible pop music based on melodic hooks; this change of direction gave them their first number one album in the United Kingdom, Duke, and their only number one single in the United States, "Invisible Touch". Genesis have changed personnel several times. Collins, previously the band's drummer, replaced Gabriel as lead singer in 1975, and was replaced by former Stiltskin singer Ray Wilson for the 1997 album Calling All Stations. Due to the commercial failure of that album, the band announced an indefinite hiatus. However in June 2007, Collins, Banks, Rutherford, and touring members ...
Part 2: www.youtube.com My favorite Opeth song, without a doubt! This is part 1 of the song Blackwater Park by Opeth. Opeth is a Swedish heavy metal band that formed in 1990 in Stockholm. The band, which has been through several line-up changes, currently comprises Mikael Åkerfeldt (vocals/guitar), Fredrik Åkesson (guitar), Martin Mendez (bass), Martin "Axe" Axenrot (drums), and Per Wiberg (keyboards). Since the band's inception, there have been 15 official members, with Åkerfeldt being the one continual member. Opeth's dominant style of music is Scandinavian death metal, however, the band combines their genre with progressive metal, progressive rock, folk, jazz, and blues, and their songs last an average of ten minutes. A notable exception in their catalogue is the 2003 release of Damnation, a predominantly progressive rock record containing no death metal styled vocals, distorted guitars, double bass drumming, or songs over eight minutes in length. The Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrives in Israel to play at the opening of an Arab Cultural Center. Dressed in full regalia and observing all military police protocol, the members of the orchestra are at a pivotal time in their careers. It's not just the political nature of an Arab military police band playing traditional Arab music in Israel that makes this event so important; budget cuts and many reorganizations have threatened the continued existence of the Orchestra. Faced with the heavy burden of this assignment, the stoic conductor Tewfiq (Sasson Gabai) is determined not to foul their excursion. Despite all Tewfiqs efforts, it's not long before problems arise. The band arrives at the airport with no one there to greet them. Stranded and unable able to contact their Israeli hosts or the Egyptian consulate for help, Tewfiq decides that the Orchestra will persevere with its assignment and orders, and designates Khaled, a sauve young ladies man (Saleh Bakri), to ask for directions. Khaled and the station agent struggle in English, Arabic and Hebrew to communicate, but despite their best efforts, the Orchestra is sent to the outskirts of a small forgotten Israeli town in the desert. Faced with an unknown landscape, and disgruntled and hungry men, Tewfiq brings the men to a small café in the nearby town and humbly asks the proprietor, Dina (Ronit Elkabetz), for lunch. Not wanting the turn the Orchestra away, Dina invites the men to stay with her and a few of ...
The Bollinger Bands were created by John Bollinger in the late 1980s. Bollinger studied moving averages and experimented with a new envelope (channel) indicator. This study was one of the first to measure volatility as a dynamic movement. This tool provides a relative definition of price highs/lows in terms of upper and lower bands. The Bollinger Bands are comprised of three smooth lines. The middle line is the simple moving average, normally set as a period of 20 (number of bar/ticks in a given time period), and is used as a base to create upper/lower bands. The upper band is the middle band added to the given deviation multiplied by a given period moving average. The lower band is the middle band subtracted by the given deviation multiplied by a given period moving averages. What can I use this for? 1.Trend -- When price moves outside of the bands, it is believed that the current trend will continue. 2.Volatility- The band will expand/contract as the price movement becomes more volatile/or becomes bound into tight trading patterns, respectively. 3.Determine Oversold/Overbought Conditions -- When price continues to hit upper band, the price is deemed overbought (may suggest sell). When price continues to hit lower band, the price is deemed oversold (may suggest buy). You can use the Bollinger Bands tool in the studies column of the MarketClub charting applet. Select Bollinger Bands study and enter the standard deviation and the period (default/recommended settings ...
www.thebandsvisit.com Once, not long ago, a small Egyptian Police band arrived in Israel. They came to play at an initiation ceremony but, due to bureaucracy, bad luck, or for whatever reason, they were left stranded at the airport. They tried to manage on their own, only to find themselves in a desolate, almost forgotten, small Israeli town, somewhere in the heart of the desert. A lost band in a lost town. Not many people remember this. It wasn't that important. The movie was selected to be Israel's Official Submission to the Best Foreign Language Film Category of the 80th Annual Academy Awards (2008), but it was disqualified by AMPAS because more than 50% of film's dialogue was found to be in English, as opposed to Arabic and Hebrew. It was recorded at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Majestic Theatre as part of the MTV Unplugged series of concerts and contains live, acoustic versions of the band's songs. The show first aired on MTV on May 28, 1996. The performance was Alice in Chain's first concert in two and a half years, as well as one of the band's final appearances with Layne Staley. In addition to the CD, a full length DVD of the concert was also released. It is often hailed as one of the most memorable unplugged's ever, compared among the ranks of Nirvana, and KISS. Mike Inez's bass has the phrase "Friends Don't Let Friends Get Friends Haircuts," referencing the band Metallica, whose members had recently cut their hair prior to the release of Load.
.EM is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in early 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and vocalist Michael Stipe. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Throughout the 1980s, the band released an album per year for seven consecutive years, from their debut EP in 1982 (Chronic Town) through 1988's Green. They also toured constantly, playing a variety of venues, from theaters to backwoods dives. Along the way, their sound influenced many bands, from jangle pop groups of the mid-'80s to alternative rock bands of the '90s. The band became admired for its slow, steady rise to stardom. REM found itself established as a key element of the burgeoning alternative rock scene of the 1980s. Upon attaining major-label success at dawn of the '90s, the band was able to put forth broader political and environmental concerns while playing large arenas worldwide, and retaining most of its artistic credibility. In 1997, Bill Berry amicably left the band, leaving the band as a three-piece. Through some reinvention REM continued their career into the next decade with mixed critical and commercial success. The band expects to release a new album with producer.
The band was formed in 1983 by Paul Heaton (vocals), Stan Cullimore (guitar), Ted Key (bass) and Chris Lang (drums). The band's membership changed quite a lot over the years. Ted Key was replaced by Norman Cook — the future Fatboy Slim — and drummer Chris Lang was replaced by Hugh Whitaker, former drummer with The Gargoyles, who in turn was replaced with Dave Hemingway. In 1986, having recorded two John Peel sessions, the band broke through with the single "Happy Hour", which reached No.3 in the UK charts. The single's success was helped by a claymation animated pop promo of a type that was in vogue at the time, featuring a cameo by TV comedian Phill Jupitus, who toured with the band under the stage name "Porky the Poet". At the end of the same year, they narrowly missed out on the Christmas No.1 single with a cover version of Isley Jasper Isley's "Caravan of Love", when it was knocked off the top spot by Jackie Wilson's "Reet Petite" on 23 December.
Johnny Marr and Morrissey visit a class of English elementary schoolers, who interview the band. Morrissey and Marr perform a quick, acoustic rendition of "This Charming Man," with the little school children singing the chorus. Program also contains footage of band rehearsals and Morrissey's explanation of the band's name and other matters. Note: This video footage was found on the Web randomly a few years ago via a Smiths fan site, I think.
The Cold was New Orleans' greatest band. This clip shows them at their peak during a 1981 concert at the hallowed Jimmy's Music Club. The band was comprised of five extremely talented musicians, including Vance Degeneres (the more talented sibling of Ellen Degeneres who created Mr. Bill and was a correspondent for the Daily Show). In addition to great concert footage, the special has some truly hilarious comedy sketches (Pregnancy Mood Ring!). If you don't know the Cold, prepare yourself for a pleasant surprise. If you are a long time fan, sit back and remember a truly happening scene. Visit the band's official website at www.threechordcity.com.

A short clip of the band's history, some interesting comments from their old manager: "They were completely out of context with everything that was going on in youth culture..." (when recalling the early years) Journalist: "Japan were crap for 3 albums" (!harsh!) Some discussion of making "real" sounds from synths on tin drum and Mick's unique bass style. They go on to talk about why the band broke up and the whole Rain Tree Crow project. Includes interviews with the band (no Sylvian) and updates on what the guys are doing now... or rather at the time when this clip was filmed. I wish the clip was longer/better quality, if anyone has the full clip please upload! NOTE: I did not record this myself, it was found on a Japan fansite. If the original creator wants their tag in here or something let me know!
