This work was exhibited by Tina Havelock Stevens at The Cad Factory on 13 December 2009. It was part of the fourth show in a series of ten live recording, filming and art parties featuring WM Burden, The Mumps and Black Cab. Liberty Kerr and Tina Havelock Stevens also gave a collaborative performance featuring cello and visuals.
Continuing the study of Oldham's four main stations, this is a more detailed footage of Oldham's fourth and last operational, main line station than the brief clip I had filmed after its closure. The opening footage shows Oldham's last operational signal box, which was also Oldham Mumps. The door was already open when I filmed this. There is also another look at the LNWR warehouse and the OA & GB line leaving Oldham. There were at least four signal boxes along this stretch between Glodwick Road, Mumps and Clegg Street stations, controlling the junctions and sidings. One controlled Glodwick Road, another was at Waterloo Street sidings with the Oldham Mumps signal box immediately opposite controlling the Mumps and Clegg Street sidings. The fourth was at Sheepwashers Lane sidings on the opposite side of the Park Road bridge and tunnel complex from Clegg Street station and the warehouse. The opening footage of Mumps station was filmed just after closure and before work commenced on conversion to the Metro tram system last October. Even the rubbish had been left. The old sleepers from the old tracks (taken up in the 60s or 70s) can still be seen alongside the remaining track. There's a discarded time table and a Network Rail glove too. The signals have been powered down and weeds have quickly invaded the mainline tracks. The signal box and LNWR warehouse footage was filmed on the 13th of March. Days later work started on the dismantling and removal of the roof canopy at Mumps ...
