A passing thought.
the towering inferno of wrapping paper two days after christmas (2009)...
A fascinating behind the scenes insight into the making of the epic disaster film - The Towering Inferno. To see cinema legends such as Newman, McQueen, Holden and Astaire doing their stuff is truly entralling. The film has incredible special effects, terrific performances from all of the cast and a wonderful score by John Williams. Apparently, Newman and McQueen had been trying for 15 years to find a film they could do together. Well, it was worth the wait. I remember going to see this film and was amazed by the craft and sheer brilliance of it. Irwin Allen was the Steven Speilberg of his day, and there can be no greater compliment to him than that.

Stirling maps out the storytelling challenges in this epic disaster film extravaganza. Using scale models of the building like a high-rise doll house, the Oscar-winning writer was able to move his characters through a labyrinth of plot lines and twisted steel.
Stirling examines the need to become an expert in a character's profession, and then go beyond those details to find what personally motivates them.
Fire Chief Steve McQueen gets volunteered in a great scene from "The Towering Inferno" (1974)

The climax scene of Towering Inferno. Using the last option available, the fire department decides to blast the watertanks above the promenade room, believing the millions of gallons of water there would be enough to put out the fire in the entire tower. So, ready to sacrifice their lives, all the men in top floor brace themselves for a series of explosions.
With all the females having safely been rescued from the burning Glass Tower by Breeches buoy, Roger Simmons, the son-in-law of Glass Towers builder James Duncan, gets tired of waiting and begins to rebel against the others. But soon the fire reaches the promenade room and Roger causes a panic, resulting the loss of his own life.
As Chief O'Halloran lands onto the trapped scenic elevator to cut loose the cable, he eventually succeeds, but a sudden explosion nearly causes them to loose a fireman, so it's a tight situation, before they get back onto the solid ground.
Aiming to get a small group of people safe from the promenade room, Doug Roberts sends them down with the scenic elevator with is gravity brakes activated. But the fire catches them by surprise and nearly causes the elevator to break loose and fall.
With the winds having calmed down, an attempt is made to rescue the people in the promenade room by helicopters, but due to a sudden panic of the civilians, the helicopter collides against the building and explodes.
With one of the doors leading to stairway being blocked by cement and a group of people trapped behind it, it's up to the fire department to blow the door open, only to find out that their efforts are in vain, as the stairway has been destroyed by the fire. Still, some choose to try escaping.
After finishing their time together, Bigelow and Lorrie are going to join the party in the promenade room. But instead, they find themselves surrounded by the quickly spreading blaze of flames, and it's up to Bigelow to get them saved. But the fire becomes their doom.
The fire department has arrived to the Glass Tower and they're already hard at work to put out the fire. But everybody finds out soon, that the fire is spreading way too fast and getting out of control, catching even Chief Mike O'Halloran and the architect Doug Roberts by surprise
After finding smoke in the 81st floor, the fire department is called over. But the fire has spread out too far and too fast.
On its grand opening evening, the electrical system of the brand new skyscraper Glass Tower fails, causing sparks, and one triggers a flame in the 81st floor.

Irwin Allen's pink polyester atrocity-outfit is an absolute scream. I'm curious to know if it was designed by Paul Zastupnevich. Paul is the couturier who designed those deliciously faggy clothes that were worn by the LOST IN SPACE actors.
In honor of the late great Paul Newman and the King of Cool Steve McQueen, here is a modernized trailer for the 1974 film that brought both of them together. I made this trailer back in May. I acknowledge that I in no way shape or form own the rights to either the footage shown or the music heard. This is just the grandaddy of disaster films!

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of TOWERING INFERNO by US Games for the Atari 2600 VCS video computer system. The 1970's were a great time for disaster movies like Earthquake, Poseidon Adventure, The Swarm, Airport and The Towering Inferno. This game lets you live out the dream of being the hero in a 70's action film by playing as a fireman (played by Steve McQueen in the movie) and saving innocent civilians in a burning skyscraper. Towering inferno was released in the early 80's and is an excellent arcade style retrol old school game on the Atari 2600 console. The gameplay is fast and enjoyable, required skill and a bit of chance. It has flames and helicopters and 9 buildings to save people from. CGRHD highly recommends Towering Inferno! The 1974 movie starring Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and Robert Vaughn, Fred Astaire and Robert Wagner was awesome too. The designers of modern movie themed games and ports on the PS3 and Xbox 360 can learn a lot from TI, because this game is dope. It ain't Backdraft, this is TOWERING INFERNO!!! It burns with aweseomeness! Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The reviews on the HD series are reviewing PS3, PS2, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360. XBLA. videos review reviews show wii trailer

Faye Dunaway looks stunningly gorgeous, classy and sexy in this scene. She wears a beige gown that clings to her body so beautifully.
Doug Roberts (Paul Newman) has everything going for him - a promising career designing skyscrapers for Jim Duncan (William Holden), lovely girlfriend Susan (Faye Dunaway), and he's planning to move out of the city to a more peaceful life. But Susan has just broken the news to Doug that she's been offered a major promotion, but this would mean that she'd have to stay in San Francisco.
One of my favorite romantic movie scenes. Faye Dunaway and Paul Newman look so cute here. She calls this ''a sweet seduction scene.''
