Mr. Sohan Roy SK, Naval Architect and CEO of Aries Group unfolds the technical analysis of the Thekkady Boat Tragedy His major findings are 1. We cannot blame the government for giving the job to them because the rate what they have quoted is the cheapest in the market. 2. Ignorance from top to bottom is the root cause for this tragedy and we need to take proper corrective actions accordingly. Any new rule implementation by importing national/international rules without understanding the pulse of traditional boats of Kerala may bring more complications. As a social commitment Aries Marine, the largest ship design consultancy firm in Middle East is willing to provide a free stability study of the present vessel and is happy to assist the government to draft a proper inspection rule book for inland crafts without any loop holes in Kerala. Aries Marine and Engineering Services is the largest ship design and consultancy firm in Middle East. ARIES has the acclamation of designing and constructing the first unsinkable boat made in steel and the largest snake boat in the world (entered in the Guinness book, 142ft/141 crew).
Mr. Sohan Roy SK, Naval Architect and CEO of Aries Group unfolds the technical analysis of the Thekkady Boat Tragedy His major findings are 1. The most awaited IACS permanent membership of IRS would be badly affected if we try to put the blame on IRS without understanding the real facts which may affect the entire Indian Shipping Industry. After 34years of struggle, they (India) are about to get the permanent IACS status as its last and 11th member. 2. Ignorance of Inspector of Boats made him misunderstand the stability certificate from IRS for the basic hull as the final one for the completed vessel. It's unfair to blame him fully after giving authority for inspection without proper training or qualification. 3. As per the available information, builder has never approached IRS after construction to get the proper stability certification. 4. IRS is formally following IMO requirement and an inclining experiment is not mandatory as per IMO criteria for less than 24m.vessel. However they would have followed ISO criteria if the builder had done so. 5. With our professional experience, we strongly believe that the hull used is not capable of to be used as a double decker at the present condition and the mould should not be used for future construction of similar boats without having proper stability study. 6. He contradicts on the forensic report, blaming fiber glass being used as the root cause. Fiber glass is a widely used apparatus in boat and yacht manufacturing world ...

A boat carrying 75 tourists capsized on a reservoir in southern India on Wednesday, killing at least 28 people and leaving dozens missing, police said. The state-owned boat was traveling in the remote Thekkady forest area in Kerala state and capsized after the tourists rushed to one side as they spotted some animals in the forest, tilting the vessel over, said police officer R. Rajesh. Rescuers have fished out 28 bodies from the reservoir and were looking for 27 other missing tourists, police officer Rajesh told The Associated Press. Rajesh also said 20 people have been rescued so far and taken to the hospital. Most of the tourists were from the neighboring state of Karnataka, he told The Associated Press. The site of the accident is nearly 1300 miles (2100 kilometers) south of New Delhi. Kerala is a popular tourist destination for both Indians and foreigners with luxury resorts on the sparkling backwaters.
