DemocracyNow.org - As a wave of anti-union bills are introduced across the country in the wake of Wall Street financial crisis, many analysts are picking up on the theory that award-winning journalist and author Naomi Klein first argued in her 2007 best-selling book, "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism." In the book, she reveals how those in power use times of crisis to push through undemocratic and extreme free market economic policies. Democracy Now! interviews Naomi Klein to discuss how the shock doctrine is being used by politicians pushing drastic cuts and reforms as a response to the financial crisis. "The Wisconsin protests are an incredible example of how to resist the shock doctrine," Klein says. According to the European Union Times dated January 6, 2011 www.eutimes.net NASA: Approaching space object 'artificial, not asteroid' Posted by EU Times on Jan 6th, 2011 Not actually an asteroid, according to NASA, but artificial. NASA authorities report that an unknown object approaching the Earth from deep space is almost certainly artificial in origin rather than being an asteroid. Object 2010 KQ was detected by the Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona earlier this month, and subsequently tracked by NASA's asteroid-watching service, the Near-Earth Object Program headquartered at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California. Observations by astronomer SJ Bus, using the NASA-sponsored Infrared Telescope Facility in Mauna Kea, Hawaii, indicate that 2010 KQ's spectral characteristics do not match any of the known asteroid types, and the object's absolute magnitude (28.9) suggests it is only a few meters in size. The mysterious artificial object has apparently made a close pass by the Earth, coming in almost to the distance of the Moon's orbit, and is now headed away again into the interplanetary void. The object has used no propulsion during the time NASA has had it under observation. However the spacewatch experts believe that it must have moved under its own power at some point, given its position and velocity. "The orbit of this object is very similar to that of the Earth, and one would not expect a object to remain in this type of orbit for very long," said Paul Chodas, at ...

Police are under scrutiny after a toddler was accidentally shot by officers aiming at a robbery and carjacking suspect at a fast food drive-through in Jacksonville last Friday. Authorities say 2-year-old old Daniel Crichton was shot in the arm and upper torso after a suspected bank robber forced his way into the car in which the toddler was seated. The child remains in critical condition. "We had a very volatile situation," Sheriff John Rutherford told the Florida Times Union. "I just don't want to try to speculate on why they felt the need to shoot at the suspect while he was in the vehicle." The child's mother, Joann Cooper, was hit once in the foot. A 7-year-old girl also in the car was not injured. The suspect was killed but has not been identified. The gunman did not discharge his weapon. Five officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office fired a total of 42 rounds at the vehicle. Four of the officers involved were veterans, and one was a rookie still in field training, the Times Union reported. Thomas J. Aveni, executive director of The Police Policy Studies Council, told the newspaper that training for situations where gunfire may be necessary amid crowds is nearly impossible. He added that police departments are working toward better guidelines to give officers on when to fire at moving cars. "Officers tend to miss significant number of rounds when firing at human beings on foot," Aveni said.

'We have the Technology' shows that we already have the solutions needed to move from Old Power to Intelligent Energy: clean, renewable Energy from the Elements of Sun, Earth, Water and Air can be gathered using existing technology like Solar cells, Solar towers, geothermal, tidal generators, wave machines (check out the awesome Red Snake), and Wind turbines. These devices work NOW, and with more effort could be even more efficient. Why burn oil when Earth receives 15000 times more energy from the Sun than we use every day. And there is no need for nuclear powerstations with their attendant waste, risks and astronomical costs...Geothermal energy is energy directly from the Earth, powered by natural nuclear processes in the core! Etc. There is no Energy shortage...only an Energy CONSCIOUSNESS shortage. Let's wake up , implement the solutions at hand, and develop even better ones. It's Time. Energy Union is about Intelligent Energy and evolution. It's a Coldcut show, a political campaign, an international project, a party YOU are invited to. Billie Joe, performing "Last Night On Earth" at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY on July 25th 2009. Apparently, this was the 1st time they had played the song during the "21st Century Breakdown" world tour. It was requested to the band by a fan earlier in the day. He met Jason White out on the street. He made the request because he had recently gotten married, and the song was used as their wedding song. He was told that it might not happen, but it totally did, and really made his night (he contacted me cause of this video, that's why I know). Original upload posted as news on www.greenday.com and on http Unfortunately, the YouTube account was deleted by WMG for copyright infringement (they had ended their copyright agreement with YouTube, and I had too many Green Day uploads that they didn't like being up *sigh*).
In the last days leading to Christ's return the world will be as it was in the days of Noah, according to Scripture. How similar is our world to that NOW? Also, in the aftermath of September 12, the Left is feeling very threatened and, as a direct result, is making some outlandish accusations in an effort to cast opponents to their policies as racist and violent. That and more in this edition of "Symptoms."

www.tarakamangar.com Behzad Ranjbaran's music has been performed in recent seasons by Renée Fleming, Joshua Bell and Yo-Yo Ma among others. In June 2008, Jean Yves Thibaudet will premiere his Piano Concerto, commissioned by the Atlanta Symphony, to be conducted by Robert Spano. Songs of Eternity was written for Renée Fleming, who gave the premiere with the Seattle Symphony, conducted by Gerard Schwarz; Joshua Bell was the soloist in the premiere performances of the Violin Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, also conducted by Schwarz. Bell went on to give the works North American premiere with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra , conducted by Mario Venzago, and further performances with Peter Oundjian and the Toronto Symphony. Recordings include Persian Trilogy on the Delos label by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by JoAnn Falletta. This orchestral cycle, comprising the works Seven Passages, Seemorgh, and The Blood of Seyavash, takes its inspiration from ancient Persian legends, as recounted in the 11th century epic poem Shahnameh (The Book of Kings). Ms. Falletta has also conducted Elegy for Cello and Orchestra with soloist Yo-Yo Ma and the Buffalo Philharmonic, described in the Buffalo press as etherealfragile, almost like a mirage. In the summer of 2005, Ranjbaran was composer in residence for the 40th anniversary of the Saratoga Music Festival. In celebration of the occasion, he composed the orchestral overture Saratoga, which was ...
Iran and Russia are getting closer as they carry out joint naval exercises in the Caspian sea. Both countries say the maneuvers are aimed at improving security in the Caspian sea region. Ownership of some of the Caspian sea is still under dispute after the fall of the Soviet Union. Iran is one of the countries that has yet to settle how much of the Caspian sea is their territory - but the country maintains that this activity is part of international military obligations and does not have ulterior motives. Russia and Iran have enjoyed close ties for a number of years. Russia has been helping to build Iran's controversial nuclear reactor in Bushehr and has agreed to supply it with fuel when it is operational. Iran is one of Russia's biggest military customers and has plans to update its airforce with Russian MIG fighter jets. How strong are these growing ties and, with Tehran coming under increasing pressure over its nuclear activities, just how does Washington view this budding alliance? Inside Story presenter Hashem Ahelbarra is joined by Vyacheslav Matuzov, a former Russian diplomat and Middle East expert, Mehrdad Khonsari, a former Iranian diplomat and a senior research consultant at the centre for Arab and Iranian studies, and Richard Weitz, a senior fellow and director of the centre for political-military analysis at the Hudson Institute.

Québec a Nation History (Part 21) Act of Union and Louis Riel The Act of Union passed in July 1840 and proclaimed February 10, 1841, abolished the legislatures of Lower Canada (Québec) and Upper Canada (Ontario) and established a new political entity, the Province of Canada to replace them. This act effecting the political union of The Canadas was similar in nature and in goals to the other Acts of Union enacted by the British Parliament. The Burning of the Parliament Buildings in Montreal occurred on the night of April 25, 1849. Political organisation under the Union Act was inspired by Lord Durham's report. Lord Durham was sent to the colonies to examine the causes of the Rebellions of 1837 in both Upper and Lower Canada. Durham concluded that the real problem was the ethnic conflict between French and English. According to Durham, the French culture in Canada had changed little in 200 years, and showed no sign of progress like British culture had. His report contains the famous assessment that Canada consisted of "two nations warring within the bosom of a single state." He write that the so-called "French Canadians" had no history and no culture and that the conflict was primarily that of two ethnic groups. Louis Riel (Manitoba History) The first resistance was the Red River Rebellion of 1869-1870. The provisional government established by Riel declared Manitoba a independant Métis republic. Riel was forced into exile in the United States as a result of the execution ...

The Winter War (Finnish: Talvisota, Russian: Советско-финляндская война - official, Зимняя война- unofficial[10], Swedish: Vinterkriget) began when the Soviet Union attacked Finland on 30 November 1939, three months after the invasion of Poland by Germany that started World War II. Because the attack was judged as illegal, the Soviet Union was expelled from the League of Nations on 14 December.[11] The Soviet forces had four times as many soldiers as the Finns, 30 times as many aircraft and 200 times as many tanks.[4] However, the Red Army had recently been subjected to a drastic purge in 1937 that crippled it, reducing its morale and efficiency shortly before the outbreak of hostilities.[12] With up to 50% of army officers executed, including the vast majority of those of the highest rank, the Red Army in 1939 had many inexperienced senior officers.[13] Due to a combination of this factor and an extremely high commitment and morale in the Finnish forces, the Finns were able to resist the invasion of their country with great success and for far longer than the Soviets had expected. Finland held out until March 1940, when it signed the Moscow Peace Treaty, ceding about 9% of its pre-war territory and 20% of its industrial capacity to the Soviet Union. Soviet losses on the front were large, and the country's international standing suffered. Also, the fighting ability of the Red Army was questioned, a factor that contributed to Adolf Hitler's decision to launch Operation Barbarossa. Finally, the Soviet forces did not accomplish their primary objective of conquest of Finland but gained only a slice of territory along Lake Ladoga. The Finns retained their sovereignty and gained considerable international goodwill. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suomi_M-31_SMG http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lahti-Saloranta_M/26 http://www.kaiku.com/winterwar.html http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098437/ infos in czech language... http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimn%C3%AD_v%C3%A1lka http://www.fronta.cz/talvisota-zimni-valka-i
