This is a group assignment for my Music in Society class.
Tin Pan Alley Cats is a 1943 animated short subject, directed by Robert Clampett for Leon Schlesinger Productions as part of Warner Bros.' Merrie Melodies series. A follow-up to Clampett's successful Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs, released earlier in 1943, Tin Pan Alley Cats focuses upon contemporary themes of African-American culture, jazz music, and World War II, and features a caricature of jazz musician Fats Waller as an anthropomorphic cat. The short's centerpiece is a fantasy sequence derived from Clampett's black and white Looney Tunes short Porky in Wackyland (1938). Like Coal Black, Tin Pan Alley Cats focuses heavily on stereotypical gags, character designs, and situations involving African-Americans. As such, the film and other Warner Bros. cartoons with similar themes have been withheld from television distribution since 1968, and are collectively known as the Censored Eleven. Production: In part because of budget limitations and wartime shortages, several sequences borrow animation and audio recordings from earlier Schlesinger cartoons. From Friz Freleng's 1937 "products come to life" Merrie Melodies short, September In The Rain, the recorded performance of "Nagasaki" is re-used completely intact, and the "Fats Waller" cat, Louis Armstrong trumpeter, jitterbugging woman and the trio of singing bartenders are re-produced for this cartoon. Gags from the "out-of-this-world" sequence feature color-redrawn versions of characters and visuals (along with re ...

Socrates, the pampered Persian, decided to spend her day watching Bobby Flay on the Food Channel and thinking about some nice southern catfish. With her Wiimote handy, Socrates was ready for anything that might come her way, so long as it didn't require physical movement. The music, "Lazy Bones" is a Tin Pan Alley song written in 1933, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and music by Hoagy Carmichael. This version is performed by Bing Crosby and the incomparable Louis Armstrong, recorded in 1949.

The music was written by Gus Edwards, the lyrics by Edward Madden and this barbershop arrangement was made by Val Hicks. The song was published in 1909 and was one of a series of moon related Tin Pan Alley songs of the era. This popular tune has been used in a great many television shows and motion pictures. The song was one of a number of early-20th-century songs which were used as titles of musical films made by Doris Day in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Able to sing, dance, and play comedy and dramatic roles, she became one of the biggest box-office stars in Hollywood of that era. LYRICS (chorus): By the light of the silvery moon, I want to spoon, To my honey I'll croon love's tune. Honey moon, keep shining in June. Your silvery beams will bring love's dreams, We'll be cuddling soon, By the silvery moon. CREDITS: Many thanks to my friend Mr. Faireset for his magic with the video editing and his help shooting the clip. Fran-USA on Accordion plays a medley of Alley Cat, Has Anybody Seen My Gal and Ain't She Sweet. ALLEY CAT won the Grammy Award for Best Rock & Roll Recording, 1962. Bent Fabric is a man, not a group. His real name is Bent Fabricus-Bjerre, and he wrote this under the pseudonym "Frank Bjorn." Fabric is a piano player from Denmark. The Danish title of this is "Omkring et Flygel," which means "Around the Piano." This was the theme song of popular Danish TV show of same name, hosted by Fabric. Farbic led a jazz band in the 1940's. He became head of Denmark's Metronome Records in 1950, making the transition to pop music about the same time. (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL, for all above) An instrumental, this used to be very popular at weddings. It has a goofy dance that speeds up with the music. A later vocal version features lyrics by Jack Harlen. HAS ANYBODY SEEN MY GAL was a popular song of the 1920s, music by Ray Henderson, lyrics by Sam M. Lewis & Joseph Widow Young, first recorded by The California Ramblers during 1925, on their self-titled album The California Ramblers. The simple, four-verse song remained popular during and after World War II and has endured as a representation of the culture of the 1920's and of the experiences of a soldier coming home after an extended military stay[citation needed]. Because of the first lines of the lyrics, it is sometimes identified as "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue". The song has been cover-recorded by many artists, including Mitch ...
Countdown Love single "if youre lookin for trouble, youve come to the right place..." sings Johnny and it wouldnt sound so dangerously hyonest from anybody else. This single has 2 versions of the Heartbreakers standard 'Countdown Love'. This is the first side featuring Johnny Thunders and the Que Sera Sera 'Black Cats' band. It was recorded in 1985 at London England's Tin Pan Alley Studios. Side A: Countdown Love - Johnny Thunders side * Johnny Thunders - guitar & lead vocals * Henri-Paul - guitar * Keith Yon - bass * Tony St Helene - drums * Stiv Bators - background vocals * Michael Monroe - background vocals *information taken from Cyber Lounge
Countdown Love single This single has 2 versions of the Heartbreakers standard 'Countdown Love'. The first side features Johnny Thunders and the Que Sera Sera 'Black Cats' band. It was recorded in 1985 at London England's Tin Pan Alley Studios. Sound is crisp and clear with the vocals and guitar taking prominence rather than the bass and drums. Background vocals by Stiv Bators and Michael Monroe are, unfortunately, not too exciting. They just add a couple of oowwws and aahhhss. Side B features Jerry Nolan with the Teneriffa Cowboys again performing 'Countdown Love'. It was recorded in Stockholm Sweden in 1983 at Decibel studios. This is a more interesting version of the tune with slightly different lyrics and Jerry singing the chorus at a different pace. Side B: Countdown Love - Jerry Nolan side * Jerry Nolan - drums & lead vocals * Michael Thimren - guitar * Bonne Lofman - guitar * Sylo Eliason - bass * Syl Sylvain - piano??

There is general agreement that it arose in the southern United States of America - the region which would produce most of the major early rock and roll acts - through the meeting of the different musical traditions which had developed from transatlantic African slavery and largely European immigration in that region. The migration of many freed slaves and their descendants to major urban centers like Memphis and north to New York City, Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland and Buffalo meant that black and white residents were living in close proximity in larger numbers than ever before, and as a result heard each other's music and even began to emulate each other's fashions. Radio stations that made white and black forms of music available to both groups, the development and spread of the gramophone record, and musical styles such as jazz and swing which were taken up by both black and white musicians, aided this process of "cultural collision." The immediate roots of rock and roll lay in the so-called "race music" and hillbilly music (later called rhythm and blues and country and western) of the 1940s and 1950s. Particularly significant influences were jazz, blues, boogie woogie, country, folk and gospel ...

The Revellers - Collegiate. Label: "His Master's Voice". Nr.:4-4160 (Cat. No, B 2236) Rec.:mid 1920's The Revelers were the 1920's most famous group, and illustrate with great musical charm and alacrity the style typical of the era: part vaudeville, barbershop, ragtime and Tin Pan Alley. An all-male ensemble accompanied by their own pianist, (a format later adopted by the Comedian Harmonists), the Revelers benefited by the mainstream acceptance of the newly-popular gramophone, and had many hits, such as "Baby Face," "Valencia," "The Blue Room" and "Dinah" (some recorded under the name The Merrymakers). Though some of the songs connote a novelty aspect to the contemporary ear, the harmonies are sweet and true, the vocal tone exemplary, and the recording quality surprisingly warm and clean. The arrangements are a delight, assimilating the block harmonies of barbershop and the mannered and elegant delivery of the parlor singer.
www.scottjoplin.org Tune title is "ANGRY" Words by (Lyricist) Dudley Mecum Music by (Composer): Henry Brunies and Jules Cassard Composed in 1925. LYRICS: Angry, please don't be angry, 'Cause I was only teasing you! I wouldn't even let you think of leavin' Don't you know I love you true! Just because I took a look at somebody else, That's no reason you should put poor me on the shelf! Angry, please don't be angry, 'Cause I was only teasing you! Don't believe a thing you hear, just wait 'till you see, Then you'll find no cause to show that you're jealous of me! Oh! Angry, please don't be angry, 'Cause I was only teasing you! I made a serious error on the title of the band in the video! On the video I had the name of this musical group as "The Bill Brown Philharmonic Symphony Ragtime Orchestra," but then after I had edited and posted the video I realized that the correct name is "The Bill Brown Philharmonic Syncopated Symphony Band." I guess the reason it's a "band" and not an "orchestra" is that we don't have any violins or a basoon. Maybe next year we can expand the band a bit to include those instruments in order to properly call ourselves an "orchestra."
