Boulder WeeklyBoulder Symphony comes full circleBoulder WeeklyThe transcendentalism of the concert's title comes from Ives' Unanswered Question. “Ives considered himself a transcendentalist,” Hughes says. “The piece asks the rhetorical question of why are we here. “It asks the question with the trumpet.

A hip interviewer takes a crack at the monumental Transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson
Music video for English class. To the tune of Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
My first attempt at rapping. It started as a poem for school so keep that in mind...haha. I just found this 11th grade English paper in some old boxes and thought it could make a super gangta transcendentalism rap. Haha. I wrote this when I was 16 in class after our teacher wanted us to sum up what we'd learned that day in class about Emerson and Thoreau. While everyone else wrote some stupid little paragraph....I spit out this: Lyrics: Well, Transcendentalism yeah it's a long word And it's got some new ideas you may never have heard. Well it started a long, long time ago With two guys named Emerson and Thoreau. In Concord, Massachusetts about 1836 There was a group of people that needed a new fix. Unitarian Church that was the big hit in town But these guys weren't picking up what the Unitarians were putting down. So they took their old ideas and put 'em on a shelf And created their own concept about nature and self. Ask what the ideas of Transcendentalism are. Well they're definitely different and bizarre. But if you listen to me closely and with real intent These concepts will be as solid as thick cement. Many believe man is born with Adam's transgression But the Transcendentalists took this into question. They said man is born great and man is born fine Because we're all from God and that makes us divine. "We can never have enough nature." Said Thoreau. Truly find ourselves? Nature we must go. All forms of life share one soul And our spirits are all connected as a ...

Mmkay, so in my AP English class, we had to do an art project based on a quote of our choice by either Thoreau or Emerson. Naturally, I decided to make a video and had a lot of fun with this. Simple stuff right here, but it's quite easy to amaze the masses, no? Er... all copyrighted material belongs to their respective owners. NONE of this is mine except for the footage of students around my school I shot and the caution tape used in the credits. Oh and if any of the people in this video want this taken down, please let me know. If even one person doesn't want this up, I'll take it down right away. PS hitsuzenDECIEVED is in here. Can you guess which one is her? :O
I made this in a couple hours in my garage. Written for AP English. Lyrics I never thought of myself as a transcendentalist But I looked in the mirror and said, "I got this." I did some studies, yeah, I read up on my Emerson I had to question, what's the truth, and what's affection? Well, this man taught me to hate authority To be an individual and steer clear of conformity What's the point if we can't get along? This time I'm the only one that's thinking about this song I don't need a singer to write me hit songs I don't need a drummer to make the world dance along, and So many people with so much to say, I feel so much better when I'm by myself anyway Thoreau went on a one man vacation Became one with nature, his biggest inspiration Society makes us one and the same 146 kids, we all share the same name
