The travertine countertops in the master and guest bathrooms had a mild to moderate amount of wear and tear. Lance performed a 3 step deep cleaning, polish and reseal to remove the water deposits and light etching and wear on the travertine surface. Bathroom and kitchen counters often have waterspotting and calcium buildup around the faucets and sink edges. This photo above shows the before and after of the polishing. The travertine was already cleaned and prepared. The left is before polishing and the right is after the polishing. Notice the detail in the reflection of the light fixture comparing the unpolished left side to the polished right side. Most clients opt to deep clean and reseal for protection. It removes all the buildup that won't come out with daily cleaning. And once the surface is cleaned and prepared, it can be resealed to protect and preserve the life of the natural stone. This particular client opted for a high polish finish, that added another step to the process. It looked shiny and new when the clean, polish and sealing were complete. http

One of the most common myths we hear in the media (design magazines, etc.) about limestone, marble, and travertine is that they are very prone to staining. With a proper sealer, this is simply not true. In this test, I poured red nail polish, red lipstick, contact lens fluid, mouthwash, moisturizer cream, and toothpaste onto four different stones (Lagos Blue limestone, Bianco Carrera marble, Crema Marfil marble, and Ivory travertine) to test to see if they will stain. The results astounded even me!
This is a video of our most recent custom tile installation of a tiled en-suit bathroom in a Rocky Mountain inspired Mountain Motif Design. As we are Certified Schluter installers, the Schluter Kerdi Kit was used to prep the shower and Schluter Ditra was installed on the floor as well as on the countertops prior to tile installation. The tile mediums consist of 4 different shades of Travertine Stone (Mirage, Sunset, Coliseum & Durango for the mountain tops) and 3 shades of grout. The mountains were cut using an industrial wet band saw to achieve the intricate details and the shower pan concept was made from a hand drawn pattern that, once cut out, was traced on carefully selected tiles where each piece was hand cut to fit the shower pan layout creating a natural stone floor effect. We are based in Calgary, Alberta however, traveled a great distance for our clients to creating this unique design in their home. We consider ourselves to be craftsman rather than tradesman in the tiling field. Were not interested in getting in, getting out and getting paid. It was time for an entry way makeover! We demo'd the old 8" porcelain tile and replaced that with beautiful 18"x18" Travertine. The type of travertine was honed (smooth) walnut (the color) travertine from the Alameda Design Center. The grout joint was 1/16" inch with Sahara Tan non-sanded grout. After the 1st step of flattening/grinding lippage, the floor is vacuumed and checked for any picture framing (areas that may still have lippage or uneven tiles). Those areas are worked on a little longer to produce a flat floor. Sorry, I don't have any video editing. My worker vacuumed slowly to show these areas when dry and the holes where travertine filler popped out. Those holes will later be filled later during the end of the honing phase.

The travertine in this home was dull and dirty. Artistic Floors grinded the travertine, polished it and added a water based sealant. The light now bounces off the floors. The shine should last 10 years. Artistic Floors also removed all the carpeting and put in 5 inch white oak wood, stained it and added 3 coats of water based polyurethane.
