...several years older. I refer, of course, to a minxy little mover lurking in eBay's classic car section: a bright yellow Triumph Spitfire as it happens, and it's won my heart. If you want this to be a summer of love you'll need the wheels. The one I saw had...

Mechanical Engineering Students from the University of Colorado Denver spent the Summer of 2009 converting a broken down 1967 Triumph Spitfire into a 100% Electric Vehicle. Our EV conversion can reach a top speed of 75 MPH and has a maximum range of 40 miles (of average city driving) all with an overnight charge (8-10 hours) on a standard 110 Volt outlet. We completed the entire conversion for under $10000 including almost $2000 of restoration work, all in about 8 weeks. For more information on this project please visit stefanelsener.googlepages.com

The one that caught my eye first was the very clean, automatic-equipped 1976 BMW 2002. The odometer reads just over 4,000 miles, which means it's either a very well-maintained 104,000-mile car or a 4,000-mile car that spent several decades moldering in

" Well, I said spring was the time to be selling a ragtop, and I wasn't wrong. We had a good response from potential buyers when I put the car out for sale. But, will anyone be prepared to part with the right amount of cash for this fantastic little sports car?" " Probably, I have more budget." " You don't wanna do deals today?" " Maybe, so tomorrow [unk]--" " Okay, we don't hang around because when they're [unk], they don't hang around for long." " 2 down, 1 to go." " I think he likes what he sees so far. Wish me luck 'cause I'll try to close him down, and finally, get rid of this Spitfire. " " And you get along with it?" " Ah, it's a lovely condition, isn't it?" " Jeez, yeah. I mean, when I got the car, to be honest with you, we've done no paint work to it. So, the blue car bolted off, Edd repainted it. When I got the car, I had this annoying little misfire so I got my mechanic, Edd, to have a look at it, and he does not want to be doing things by half. He stripped the whole engine down, and he changed what I called the hard-seated valves. We've replaced the rear shock absorbers. And now, you can see, it handles nice and tight out on the road. In fact, the suspension should rise and fall 1-1/2 times, and that's exactly what it does. But the real work is done on the bumpers. Just look at them. Look at that, how shiny they are. So, great little car; I'm very pleased with it. All it needs Joe is a new owner. I'm gonna advertise it for 5 thousand pounds. I think it's a fair ...
" There are still plenty of jobs to do to a little classic Spitfire. We've got a noisy diff in the rear, the shock absorbers, and let's not forget the engine. The head is now back from the engineers. Now, it's got to be reinstalled. And that is all what we've done before I can hopefully sell it on for a profit." " Mike was complaining about, it's kind of really soggy back end, and this car has got a really simple suspension. This has got 1 leaf spring that goes from one side to the other. Essentially, there's a loads of, sort of bars of metals, sprung metal, held together with bolts. There's really very little that can be wrong with that. The only thing they can be, probably, is the shock absorbers. Now, what you're normally looking for is 1½ bounces when you're gonna give it some. So let's have a look. We'll, it's kind of really going on and on and on. So I think, basically, it's very, very fair to say that the shock absorbers are gone on this vehicle. It's gonna be very easy thing to take off. What to do is get the car up on the ramp and take the wheel off. Now, a problem that will come across in a minute is basically these shock absorbers and the tension because it's actually supporting some of the weight of the outside of this axle, this wheel basically. So, what I'm gonna have to do is get a trolley jackhammer here just to take a little bit of the strain, because if it gets too much pressure and that's gonna get a little bit dangerous. Now, the next thing is to try ...

This is a quit rare commercial out of the seventies about the Triumph Spitfire... I hope, this upload doesn't bother anyone, because it is worth to see... ;) by the way, a very nice car... ;)
Here's a video starting the Spit. Has a fouled plug due to carb issues that I'm currently working on, so it doesn't run as good as it normally does..... I will put up another vid once I get the carb issues sorted out.
