ATLANTA Movie producer and actor Tyler Perry says he is taking his sharp-tongued character "Madea" back on tour. Perry posted a message on his Web site Saturday that said he had taken some time off in the past few months "so I could spend my mother's final days at her side." His mother, Willie Maxine Perry, died Dec. 8 at age 64. Perry says he will begin touring with his new play, "Madea's Big Happy Family," the iron-willed Southern matriarch he portrays in a wig and padded suit. She is the central character of many of his films, including "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail." The actor says he is eager to have Madea on stage for the first time in five years. The first leg of the tour begins Jan. 4 in El Paso, Texas, then goes on to Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle and Portland, Ore.

The Chosen Few singing their hit song "God's Got A Blessing"
Nearly four decades before JEANNE BATES gained cult status for her eccentric character role as the Mother in David Lynch's bizarre 1977 classic "Eraserhead," she gained fame in films that ran the gamut from dramas to comedies to Westerns to supernatural and horror films, some of which have become classics of their genres. This musical montage, underscored by Ms. Bates singing, appropriately, "Who's That Girl?," by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams from the Broadway musical "Applause," recorded in concert in 1973, features clips from just a few of those classic 1940s films. It was created by her longtime friend, Tony Award-nominated actor, writer, director and producer Walter Willison, as part of a video retrospective, first show at her Memorial Tribute in February, 2008. Know to TV viewers from 1961 to 1963 as Nurse Wills on ABC's "Ben Casey," who defended the title character [played by Vince Edwards] under the watchful eye of Dr. Zorba [Sam Jaffee] for 153, Ms. Bates was one of the few actors who could boast a career in radio, films, television and the theatre that spanned nearly eight decades. Born May 21, 1918, in Berkeley, she began appearing on radio soap operas in San Francisco while attending San Mateo Junior College, played the lead [and supplied the signature scream] on the mystery series "Whodunit?." She married the program's writer, Lew X. Lansworth, in 1943, two years after the show moved to Hollywood. Under contract to Columbia Pictures, Bates made her film debut ...

Prolific playwright Tyler Perry adapts his popular stage play of the same name in this family-oriented comedy concerning a desperate mother who connects with the family she never knew. Brenda is a single Chicago mother of three who has been struggling for years to keep her kids off of the streets. Suddenly let go from her job with no warning to speak of, the eternally optimistic mother begins to experience a suffocating sense of hopelessness for the very first time in her life. When Brenda receives a death notice claiming that the father she has never met has passed away, she quickly gathers up the kids and sets out for Georgia to attend the funeral. Upon arriving in the Deep South, the once fretful mother is pleasantly surprised to discover that there is a whole side of the family she never knew existed. A crass but good-natured clan that welcomes Brenda and her children with open arms, the Browns' lazy summer afternoons and frequent trips to the county fair offer a much-needed contrast to the stress of surviving in inner city Chicago. Writer/director/actor Perry reprises his role as indomitable, law-breaking grandmother Madea in a comedy that proves sometimes second chances come when you least expect it.
Uplifting song written and recorded by unsigned Gospel Artist Ida Machen in memory of her mother who died of breast cancer in 2004.
A single mother living in inner city Chicago, Brenda has been struggling for years to make ends meet and keep her three kids off the street. But when she's laid off with no warning, she starts losing hope for the first time -- until a letter arrives announcing the death of a father she's never met. Desperate for any kind of help, Brenda takes her family to Georgia for the funeral. But nothing could have prepared her for the Browns, her father's fun-loving, crass Southern clan. In a small-town world full of long afternoons and country fairs, Brenda struggles to get to know the family she never knew existed...and finds a brand new romance that just might change her life.
