On Nov. 6th at 2132 UT, asteroid 2009 VA barely missed Earth when it flew just 14000 km above the planet's surface. That's well inside the "Clarke Belt" of geosynchronous satellites. If it had hit, the ~6-meter wide space rock would have disintegrated in the atmosphere as a spectacular fireball, causing no significant damage to the ground. 2009 VA was discovered just 15 hours before closest approach by astronomers working at the Catalina Sky Survey. The UFO witnessed hovering over King's Dominion is interesting. It appears to be loitering, solid along the edges, partially obscured by cloud cover. Park officials claim it was a smoke ring from another ride in the park, the Volcano. Additional footage may result in the appearance of movement and shape change. If it ends up being a smoke ring, duplicated in the right conditions at the same spot, we might wonder why similar reports of such an interesting object have not surfaced in the past. I doubt it was a smoke ring, however. No matter what it was, Denna Smith and her family were shaken up and / or inspired enough to come home and pray about it, recognizing it as a sign. If investigators determine its cause as something earth-bound I wonder if the family's inspiration will persist? Signs and symbolism are important in everyday life. My hope is that whatever caused the object it will remain inspirational to them through the end of the investigation. The object having a simple explanation as most cases end up being - may prove very disappointing to some.
