This is one of the most fun events a person can run. The atmosphere is great, the energy is high, there are bands all along the course, the supporters come out in droves, people run in costume, it's amazing! Done in memory of Mamama. An Ethiopian Alene Reta dominated the whole 10k track and just zoomed away from all other competitor of the race. Reta won the race with a great and whopping PR time of 28mins26sec. He won the race by just 56 seconds ahead from fellow countryman Kumsa Adunga. Last year Alene Reta was the 1st Runner-Up for the Monument Avenue 10k by Ukrops. The Womens Division turned out to be more exciting as the winner passed the leading runner by just 500 meters from the finish line and finished with a 13-second lead. The winner was Megan Wright, a 28-year old former Canadian Olympian who now lives in Morgantown, WV She finished her 10k run within 33min6sec. More than 39000 runners, joggers and walkers of all ages converged upon Monroe Park for the Monument Avenue Race Day. Each of the days races established participation records: 37365 for the 10K, 2016 for the First Market Mile Kids Run. There was one interesting fact from the Monument Avenue 10k Results. Alene Reta was not the first runner to cross the finish line, but a Jessica Smith, a 25-year-old law student at the University of Richmond.
