The number of US workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell last week by 21000 to 454000, more than analysts expected. In its weekly report Thursday, the Labor Department said the number of US workers filing initial claims for jobless benefits declined by 21000 to 454000 in the week ended July 3. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had expected claims would fall by 12000. That last time claims dropped by so much was in mid-April. Even with this latest decline in weekly claims, the numbers still aren't low enough to signal major improvement in job market conditions. Many people still remain out of work, and in recent weeks economists have grown increasingly worried that US growth may start to slow down in the second half of the year. The largest increase in claims occurred in New Jersey, which saw claims rise by 7951 in the week ended June 26 due to school closings as well as layoffs in the construction, service, transportation, warehousing, and public administration industries. Other states with increases included Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and Connecticut.
50 Random Facts That Make You Wonder What In The World Has Happened To America The Economic Collapse July 4, 2010 Our world is changing at a pace that is so staggering these days that it can be really hard to fully grasp the significance of what we are witnessing. Hopefully the collection of random facts below will help you to "connect the dots" just a little bit. On one level, the facts below may not seem related. However, what they all do have in common is that they show just how much the United States has fundamentally changed. Do you ever just sit back and wonder what in the world has happened to America? The truth is that the America that so many of us once loved so much has been shattered into a thousand pieces. The "land of the free and the home of the brave" has been transformed into a socialized Big Brother nanny state that is oozing with corruption and has accumulated the biggest mountain of debt in the history of the world. The greatest economic machine that the world has ever seen is falling apart before our very eyes, and even when our politicians actually try to do something right (which is quite rare) the end result is still a bunch of garbage. For those who still love this land (and there are a lot of us) it is heartbreaking to watch America slowly die. Buchanan Announces Five Point Jobs Plan Calls for Tax Relief, Debt Reduction, and Legal Reform Sarasota, Florida US Rep. Vern Buchanan called today for tax relief, debt reduction and legal reform to help create jobs and boost the economy. Buchanan announced his five point jobs plan during a visit to Jobs Etc. Priority number one is getting Americans back to work, said Buchanan. My legislation will help create jobs and help unemployed Americans get by in these tough times. Although there have been some positive signs of recovery, with a national unemployment rate of 10%, it is a jobless recovery at best. Instead of spending trillions of dollars on Wall Street bailouts and big-government programs that continue to increase the deficit, we should enact targeted measures to help small businesses and working families, boost the economy and put people back to work, added Buchanan. Buchanan called for tax relief for small business investments and capital gains, the one year elimination taxes on unemployment benefits, using repaid TARP funds to help pay down the debt and legal reforms to curb frivolous lawsuits. Im a businessman not a politician, said Buchanan. I have experience with starting businesses and creating jobs. We need to scrap job-killing policies that are causing small businesses to hold off on hiring and enact legislation that will help put people back to work. The Obama Economic Plan..... extend Unemployment and pass a Socialist Universal Health Care plan while raising taxes on everyone! Hurray for Socialism!
Today, one out of seven people in Michigan are out of work. Nearly one out of every 10 in the country are out of work. So far, not even 15 percent of the so-called stimulus money has been spent. Whats more, what has been spent has gone to questionable projects like $3.4 million to a turtle crossing in Florida. At this rate, its going to take nearly four years to spend all the stimulus money, and on what? That remains to be seen. This country cannot afford to lose jobs at a rate of a quarter of a million a month while we wait for the Presidents stimulus package to kick in. We need a stimulus that works. My plan includes repealing this stimulus plan that isnt working; I've co-sponsored legislation that will do this and save taxpayers $610 billion. Instead of wasting more time and more money, we need to immediately devote these funds to shovel-ready infrastructure improvement projects. We need to invest in our innovative small businesses instead of threatening them with energy taxes and health care costs so high that will force them to lay off more workers or reduce wages creating even more hardships for our state. Under the Republican plan, we provide immediate tax relief for working families a savings of up to $3200 a year for married couples. We would give tax breaks to Americas small businesses, helping them make payroll and keep their doors open. And if you lost your job, we would make sure you get unemployment benefits tax free so you can get back on your feet. There ...
Add me as a friend on Facebook! www.facebook.com Get DAILY GrowBy10 Updates on Twitter! twitter.com Just about everyone has heard of Goldman Sachs. Few, until recently, had heard of Mike Morgan, a Florida-based investment adviser, just recovered from heart surgery. Over the past few months, Morgan has become one of those shooting stars of cyberspace. He set up a blog, goldmansachs666.com , whose posts have included "Does Goldman Sachs run the world?" and "If Goldman Sachs robbed your house, what would you do?". Aggrieved at being traduced under the devil's sign, the American investment bank ordered Morgan to take down his site. He refused. A legal spat ensued. Now, the site appears with the following disclaimer: "This website has not been approved by Goldman Sachs. This website was designed to provide information about Goldman Sachs to demonstrate [in Mr Morgan's view] how destructive this company is to our lives and the hopes and dreams of our children." Few companies generate such vitriol. But sometimes you wonder if Goldman doesn't actually want to be hated. Just look at this week's humdinger. Fresh from repaying $10 billion (£6 billion) of rescue funding from the American taxpayer, and amid the biggest economic crisis since the 1930s, Goldman turned in record second-quarter earnings of $3.44 billion a 65 per cent rise year-on-year. That's only half of it, though. The upshot of these monster earnings is that Goldman's 29400 staff are set to rake it in as never before ...

Today, US Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) encouraged colleagues to swiftly approve the Travel Promotion Act of 2009 a measure to create a public and privately sponsored campaign to promote international travel to the United States. Senator Martinez, a co-sponsor of the bill, noted the many benefits travel brings to Floridas economy including the creation of new jobs. Stressing the loss of tourism-related jobs across the nation, Martinez stated that more visitors will mean more jobs for Americans at a time when unemployment continues to rise.

As of March 2009, the unemployment rate for the State of Florida was 9.5%. Frank (Bud) Nocera has joined the ranks of the unemployed as he was recently fired; however, Bud should be much better off than the hundreds of thousands of Floridians who struggle to make ends meet. So who is Bud Nocera and why are telling everyone he was fired? According to the website visitflorida.com: VISIT FLORIDA is the state's official source for travel planning for the Sunshine State. It is not a government agency, but the operating company of the Florida Commission on Tourism, which is a private/public partnership, made up of top state government officials and representatives of the Florida tourism industry. Created by the Florida legislature in 1996, VISIT FLORIDA receives part of its funding from the public sector, in the form of a 15.75% share of the state's $2.00 per day Rental Car Surcharge. VISIT FLORIDA employs a staff of 115 at the organizations headquarters in Tallahassee, its five Official Florida Welcome Centers, European office and a dedicated office in Miami serving Latin America. VISIT FLORIDA also has three field offices in Tampa, Jacksonville and Orlando, and has international contractors in the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and Germany. The recently fired chief executive of Visit Florida is Frank (Bud) Nocera, who received a $536637.36 severance package which includes $476668 in remaining salary, $17500 for his car allowance, $41876.35 in accrued vacation time and sick ...
Lawmakers in at least eight states want recipients of food stamps, unemployment benefits or welfare to submit to random drug testing.
Lawmakers in at least eight states want recipients of food stamps, unemployment benefits or welfare to submit to random drug testing. Here are the eight states: Arizona Florida Hawaii Kansas Minnesota Missouri Oklahoma West Virginia
Florida State Senator Mike Bennett has introduced a bill that would require random testing for one out of every 10 people who apply for unemployment. The drug tests cost about $30. The person applying for benefits would have to pay for it. Nine percent of people in Central Florida are out of job, and analysts predict that number will climb to double digits in the near future.
A Florida lawmaker has introduced a bill that would require workers applying for unemployment benefits be randomly tested for using drugs. Florida State Senator Mike Bennett told Foxs Steve Doocy that Florida is running out of unemployment money and wants to make sure that only those that are able to work get unemployment payments. it was nothing against the people who were using the drugs, Bennett said. Bill Piper with the Drug Policy Alliance thinks the bill is unfair to worker who have already paid into the system. These are tough economic times. This is pretty cruel, and to require them to pay for the test themselves is even more cruel. Its pretty degrading, you have to urinate in front of another person. You have to disclose what prescription drugs youre on, you have to tell complete strangers if youre on birth control or viagra or if youre suffering from depression, and normal everyday Americans shouldnt have to go through that, and these people have already paid in through the unemployment system, theyve been working hard, and its unfair to throw another hurdle, said Piper. Get your Alka-Seltzer ready, you will need it as you may get sick to your stomach! --- Barack Obama has a communication problem, every call he makes with his Raspberry to numbers in Congress ends up with this --- The problem I have I say that respectfully is that the broken communication is bidirectional. Neither do the Republicans understand the term bi-partisan, nor does the Whitehouse understand that the Republicans are motivated by the potential benefit of delay in 2010: no improvement in the economy equals more seats in the Senate. Indeed, while the President insists on implementing a stimulus in a bi-partisan fashion, the Republicans give him the VULCAN greeting. Remember the vote on the stimulus bill in the House? Zero Republicans! The bi-partisan approach is one-sided and ineffective as long as the Republicans have a clear strategy: Delay! Take Lindsey Graham, for example, on the issue of stimulus. He doesnt like that it contains spending. Strange, I thought there is a requirement for an economics degree to be a Senator. Lets see now, what was the unemployment rate in South Carolina in December of 2008? WOW, across the state it was 9.5%, in York County 9.9 and in Chester County alone 17.3%, Nothing Mr. Graham is concerned with, is he now? By now the unemployment rate across the nation has reached 7.6%, the highest since1992, in Nevada it is 9%, in Georgia 8.1, the same as in Florida. --- But lets go back to Lindsey Grahams statement you can blame George Bush all ...

John McCain Town Hall Orlando, FL 09/15/08 TRANSCRIPT: QUESTIONER: Senator McCain, what is your position on these companies leaving the United States to foreign countries and causing us to lose employment. JOHN MCCAIN: I think theres a number of ways to address it. And one of them is most Americans are not aware that we have the highest, second highest, business tax of any nation in the world. In other words, our business tax is 35%, I want to reduce it to 25%. You know what it is in Ireland? [applause] In Ireland, its 11%. So youve got a business and youre going to pay 35% tax on what you earn here or are you going to go to Ireland where you only pay 11%? Weve got to reduce that business tax and weve got to reduce it quickly. And by the way, the only other nation in the world that has higher is Japan. And I dont think we want to imitate the Japanese economy, to say the least. So, uh, we need to lower that and we also have to spark innovation and technology and education in America that will allow us to stay ahead. Were the most innovative nation in the world, as I said. The most productive workers, the most innovative, and every, literally every new breakthrough in technology comes from the United States of America. But we are not giving the kind of education to young Americans that is necessary for those businesses also to stay here. So, um, its of great concern, its of great concern. But time after time, I see a properly educated and trained workforce prevailing. One ...
Full video will be at our video library page next week: www.doleinstitute.org Michael Stanley Dukakis was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on November 3, 1933. His parents both emigrated from Greece to the mill cities of Massachusetts. Dukakis graduated from Swarthmore College and Harvard Law School. He served for two years in the United States Army, sixteen months of which he spent with the Support Group to the UN Delegation to the Military Armistice commission in Munsan, Korea. Dukakis began his political career as an elected Town Meeting Member in the town of Brookline. He was elected chairman of his town's Democratic organization in 1960 and won a seat in the Massachusetts legislature in 1962. He served four terms as a legislator, winning re-election by an increasing margin each time he ran. In 1970 he was the Massachusetts Democratic Party's nominee for Lieutenant-Governor and the running mate of Boston Mayor Kevin White in that year's gubernatorial race which they lost to Republicans Frank Sargeant and Donald Dwight. Dukakis won his party's nomination for governor in 1974 and beat Sargeant decisively in November of that year. Dukakis inherited a record deficit and record high unemployment and is generally credited with digging Massachusetts out of one of its worst financial and economic crises in history. But the effort took its toll, and he was defeated in the Democratic Primary in 1978 by Edward King. Dukakis came back to defeat King in 1982 and was re-elected to ...
