Legislation to restore unemployment benefits to millions broke free of Senate Republican delaying tactics on Tuesday. Senators voted 60-40 to move ahead on the bill, clearing the way for a final senate vote. (July 20)
With the help of the Senate's newest member, Carte Goodwin, today an extension of unemployment insurance benefits passed 60-40. "Finally we have a respite from the obstruction," said Senator Jack Reed of Republican efforts to block this legislation.
It's a little late, I started uploading the video as the news broke that the bill passed, but still relevant. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse appeared on MSNBC's Daily Rundown this morning to discuss today's vote to extend unemployment insurance. Host Savannah Guthrie asked Whitehouse at what point does unemployment cease to be an emergency. Whitehouse responded, saying "As far as I'm concerned, it ceases to be an emergency when 71000 Rhode Island families get back to work."

Republicans: A Party of Unemployment and filibustering. They have balked at supporting nearly every bill that had any serious hope of creating or keeping jobs Republicans give two reasons for opposing benefits. First, they claim that benefits discourage people from working. Second, they object that the Democrats' proposal will add to the national debt It is possible that Congressional Republicans, who were willing to vote for hundreds of billions of dollars of war expenditures without paying for them, or trillions of dollars of tax cuts without paying for them, are actually concerned about this sort of increase in the national debt. It is possible that this is true, but not very plausible. The more likely explanation is that the Republicans want to block anything that can boost the economy and create jobs. Throwing people out of work may not be pretty, but politics was never pretty, and it is getting less so by the day unemployment insurance benefits is "long overdue
West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin III has bypassed the appointment of a replacement for the late Sen. Robert C. Byrd . Now Manchin wants a special election to be held, a move that leaves Senate Democrats short a potentially crucial vote to pass the unemployment extension. Manchin said Wednesday that he would rather allow voters to choose someone to complete Byrd's unexpired term in an election this fall. Never ending games in the Senate.

On June 30th 2010, this Senator was the one Democrat who voted no on the unemployment extension bill. The bill lost by just one vote. This man single handley destroyed the passing of the bill and in effect stopping payment of over a million unemployed. This is my tribute to him.
Republicans don't waste time to bury votes for the unemployed!!!!
The Senate rejected Wednesday -- for the fourth time -- a bill that would have reauthorized extended benefits for the long-term unemployed, by a vote of 58 to 38. Democrats will not make another effort to break the Republican filibuster before adjourning for the July 4 recess. Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson's nay vote was enough to kill the bill. Time to protest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DixonRants fanpage: www.tinyurl.com While I was on vacation, the Senate Republicans voted against the extension of unemployment benefits for those that need it. The final vote was 57 to 41, with all of the Republicans voting against it, along with Democratic Senator Ben Nelson, while the independent senator Joe Lieberman voted for it, and two Democrats, Robert Byrd and Lisa Murkowski, didn't vote. This piece of legislation, HR 4213, would have also extended Medicaid payments. This only further proves that the Republicans are not for the middle class, the lower class, nor for those that need federally assisted help during bad economic times, caused by the narrow minded Republican policies of Bush. When it comes to giving the rich tax cuts, allowing big corporations the ability to outsource and to avoid taxes, and giving them corporate welfare, and fighting war, the Republicans have no problem with increasing the federal deficit, but when it comes to helping out the needy, the poor, the hungry, and the jobless, they do the anti-Christian thing: obstruct it. They have repetitively obstructed, advocated against, and voted against legislation that would give the average Americans tax cuts, unemployment benefits, and more affordable health care. This only further proves that Republicans are not for helping out those that need help, the thing that Jesus would have done if he were alive today, but for helping out those that are already very well off! Do they not have souls?! Do ...

I can tell people unequivocally, the worst thing you can do for your self is vote Republicans in and Democrats out in the midterms, with a knee jerk reaction to the economy .It would be equivalent to you being tipsy and replacing your sober designated driver with someone that's toasted, ha....! The economy is getting better people . Although, I feel more needs to be done . I also think we need a 5th and last unemployment extension . I heard that Obama is urging congress to do just that, pass another jobs bill but with more strength . However, you elect Republicans, forget any help or any thing getting done . As a matter of fact they will wreak havoc on the help you've already received .Anyways Rachel Maddow shows the jobs gains chart to illustrate the improvements in this economy, despite GOP distortions and lies of this fact .
