The FIU Golden Panthers is the name of the athletic teams of Florida International University, a public university located in Miami, Florida. The Golden Panthers compete in NCAA Division I athletics, and in the Sun Belt Conference. FIU fields 16 teams in 13 sports. fius colors are dark blue and gold, and their mascot is the Golden Panther, which is embodied by an panther named Roary the Panther. The school's original nickname was the "Sunblazers", but it was changed in 1987 to the current. FIU is a member of the NCAA, participating in Division I, and the Sun Belt Conference in all sports except for men's soccer (which competes in Conference USA as an affiliate member). FIU joined the Sun Belt Conference in 1998 having previously competed in the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC), from 1991 to 1998. fiu's Athletic Department has produced several professional and Olympic athletes, including current players in Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, and in the Women's National Basketball Association. fiu's main rivals are the University of Miami Hurricanes and the Florida Atlantic University Owls.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. Marshall University Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick introduced John "Doc" Holliday as the Thundering Herds 29th head football coach on Thursday, December 17th 2009. Holliday, a Hurricane W.Va. native, is widely regarded as one of the top recruiters in the nation and he brings with him 31 years of collegiate coaching experience to Marshall that includes stops at Florida, NC State and West Virginia. During his coaching career, Holliday has coached in 20 bowl games, three national championship games and coached 11 players that have gone on to the National Football League. He has also coached four All-Americans and 16 student-athletes that have earned all-conference or All-East honors. Holliday comes to Marshall after serving as associate head coach at West Virginia for the past two seasons where he also served as the director of recruiting while coaching tight ends and fullbacks for the Mountaineers. Rivals.com has named him one of the Top 25 recruiters in the nation and he helped WVU amass a 2009 recruiting class that was nationally ranked No. 22 by Scout.com and No. 27 by Rivals.com. Prior to that, he worked as the associate head coach and safeties coach at the University of Florida from 2005 to 2007 and as the associate head coach and wide receivers coach at North Carolina State University from 2000-04. During his tenure at Florida, the Gators won the 2006 National Championship and the UF secondary led the SEC in interceptions in both 2005 and 2006 ...
Dr. Longenecker is a graduate of the Tulane University School of Engineering and Tulane University School of Medicine. His residency was completed at Tulane University. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA. Dr. Longenecker is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is the orthopaedic consultant for the University of North Florida Athletics. He is a design consultant for the new Zimmer Gender Flex knee replacement. He practices General Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, and Total Joint Replacement at Riverside.
