The Creepy Science Behind Genetically Engineered "Frankenfish" About to Enter Our Food Supply Unlabeled This salmon would be the first genetically engineered animal to enter the US food supply, and the science behind its approval process is frightening. September 13, 2010 | LIKE THIS ARTICLE ? Join our mailing list: Sign up to stay up to date on the latest Investigations headlines via email. When the FDA announced it found the genetically engineered AquAdvantage salmon safe just before Labor Day, news headlines and even Alaska Senator Mark Begich called it a "frankenfish." A closer look at AquAdvantage makes it seem unlikely that Mary Shelley could have ever dreamed up anything as wild as the fast growing GE salmon. Even more worrisome is the science used to justify the salmon's safety, which Consumers Union senior scientist Michael Hansen calls "sloppy," "misleading," and "woefully inadequate." If approved, AquAdvantage will be the first genetically engineered animal to directly enter the US food supply -- a fact that raises the stakes of the FDA's approval process, as it sets a precedent for all future GE animals. Because of a regulatory decision in the 1980s that no new laws are needed to regulate genetically engineered foods, the FDA is actually regulating the GE salmon as a drug. The next step in the approval process will be a series of public meetings held September 19-21. Already, a number of groups, including Food & Water Watch, the Center for Biological Diversity ...

This was filmed mostly in the dark, but you can hear the creature and there is some narration. Here's some background: Friends who've lived in the Tucson area for 30+ years have never heard a creature like this which was heard one night only -- Starting at about 11:00 pm on July 23, 2010., ten miles east of downtown Tucson, AZ, near Houghton Road above Speedway Blvd. This thing returned an hour later. It sounded bigger than Big Bird! Everybody head it -- nobody wanted to go outside! Next night was a gully-washer of a rainstorm, and no cries were heard that night, or any following night. There aren't too many theories on what this creature is. I tried to match-it-up against the calls of dozens of different owls and other night birds, without luck. One rancher claimed it might be some kind of toad, but that sounds unlikely to me. There was a weird feeling that night, as if this thing had come down from the darkness and was taunting us, or trying to attract us. The family I'm staying with refused to let me go outside the gate of their big sun porch to try to spot this creature...gun totin Arizonans -- they were afraid of it! Me? I find myself in mysterious realms time & again in my life, as my BIO will show nothing surprises me! Anyway, If anyone has any ideas on what it was, please comment. Recorded on July 23, 2010 using a Flip Video camcorder.

MIGHTY MOUSE is available for adoption through Friends of Homeless Animals, www.foha.org -- (703) 385-0224. Hi! "Here I come to save the day!" Save the day from lack of adorableness and furriness, that is. I'm an adorable long-haired black cat who has received the unlikely name of "MIGHTY MOUSE" by my friends at Friends of Homeless Animals. I appeared on the scene years ago as a member of the feral cat community at FOHA, meaning I lived outside with some of my more skittish feline friends. I was taken to the vet for neutering and rabies vaccination and related vet care -- which is why my one ear is cropped. Ear cropping lets a feral colony manager know that that cat has already been spayed or neutered. Someone unfamiliar with ferals thought I might be "Bitey," but that person was quickly corrected -- I looked regal and "mighty." So I was dubbed "MIGHTY MOUSE." Now, that television cartoon superhero Mighty Mouse is known for being able to fly and fight -- he would often fight the bad guys, flying up under an evil-doer's chin and unleashing a flurry of punches. Me, I run like the wind and leave a blur of dark black and brown in my wake -- my long hair as the wind runs through it. But now what I like is a person's hand giving me pets running through my thick coat. I particularly like to deliver not fists to the face but head-butts from my furry face to your hand, arm, leg, or whatever is within this super-cat's reach. Based upon my super-cute appearance and demeanor, I've ...

For more please visit: www.DogExplorer.com - comments are moderated! Follow us on Twitter http - Every year pet owners suffer the same frustrations. Warmer weather means more parasites, especially fleas! And, despite good, veterinary approved products, some pets are still subjected to these nasty bugs! What can we do to stop the infestation? Fleas are truly a pet owner's curse and worst nightmare. Designed to survive and efficient at reproducing, these blood-sucking pests can quickly overrun house and home! In addition to causing misery for our pets, fleas have the potential to carry serious, even deadly diseases. In order to defeat this enemy, we need to understand their life cycle and dispel persistent myths that lead to ineffective flea control. For every adult flea seen on a dog or cat, there are about 95 other fleas in various life stages (eggs, larvae and pupae) around the pet's environment. The failure to address the juvenile life stages is a primary reason why owners never seem to win any battles against fleas. People also misunderstand how adult fleas interact with pets. Once an adult flea finds your pet, there is very little short of death that will remove that flea from your dog or cat. People want to believe that fleas jump from pet to pet, like it is often depicted in cartoons. The fact is once a flea starts taking a blood meal from an animal, the flea will die within two hours if removed from the pet. Pets acquire fleas by picking them up from the ...
The Carousel of Happiness Grand Opening on May 29, 2010. Over the past couple of years lucky people acquired Golden Tickets, for the first carousel ride. I do not know for sure, but I think a few sponsors received them, and that many more were found in local candy bars (or other bars), I really don't know. The carousel is the amazing work of a man named Scott Harrison. Scott is a Vietnam veteran, having served in the Marines. His leadership and inspiration to the town of Nederland, and the community at large, for bringing such an unlikely project to fruition, is a rare thing indeed. Be inspired--if you were here to see it, and fully internalize the story behind and purpose of the carousel, you would be! The main purpose of the non-profit carousel is to provide funding to other non-profits in the area. The first run of the carousel was without riders. People in attendance were to remember loved ones. It was an emotional few minutes for everyone. Scott honored and remembered two friends who died in Vietnam, who never got to grow up. Since 1984 Scott has been carving the animals from scratch. Thirty-eight of them is the number, I think. This video does not do the quality of the carving or the creativity justice. Each animal has something unique, sometimes with parts of them being completely out-of-place. Yet, everything about the carousel is very creatively integrated. Scott talks about the "magic" of the carousel, and it is there, but to understand it you really need to ...

Our cute dog Hope likes to ride this turtle named Carl :) John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Romans 10:13 If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. God is using our much loved puppy named Hope to bring you this gospel, or good news. We "Hope" and pray that you know that there is a God in Heaven and He loves you. An unlikely friendship forms between Richard, a failed middle-aged novelist who has never quite grown up and Abby, a 17-year-old girl whose role in a family tragedy years earlier has stolen away her youth. Both are unsure, both are afraid to take firm steps forward, and both rely on the imaginary friends in their heads to help guide them into the future for Richard, it is the costumed superhero Captain Excellent, and for Abby, its morose fellow teenager Christopher. At the urging of his wife Claire, Richard has moved to a Long Island beach community for the winter season in order to overcome his writers block. There, Richard meets Abby and hires her as a weekly babysitter, even though he has no children. Their tenuous, new friendship is sparked by Richards awe over Abbys homemade soup and Abbys enjoyment of Richards writing and his attempts at Origami. As the season progresses and the warm, quirky friendship between Richard and Abby grows, the two begin to share with each other their dreams and life hardships. Becoming the best of friends, Richard and Abby discover there comes a time to let go of imaginary friends of the past and to embrace the future as a new beginning just as one would embrace a new and unique friendship.
Boy has Deer as a pet friend. Unlikely friends reunite. April 19, 2010, POLK COUNTY, Florida. BayNews9. A Lakeland boy has been reunited with his best friend -- a wild deer. Hunter Brozio, 8, and Bucket, a young male deer, have formed a special friendship -- so special that it won a national contest. But when the two were separated, Hunter's mother had to spend thousands of dollars to bring them back together. Bucket the deer comes just like a dog when Hunter calls his name. They often share a snack together on the front porch. Hunter submitted a home video of he and Bucket having breakfast together to a national contest called "Keepin' It Rural." The video won third place. "Every day we just started getting closer and closer," Hunter said. Bucket also became friends with the family dog, Bear. The two would run around on the property together, but one day they ran too far. Last December, the dog and deer went missing. "I was really sad. I thought I'd just never see him again," Hunter said. After weeks of searching their Lakeland ranch, Hunter's mom, Debbie Brozio, finally tracked down her missing pets. "A friend told me to go on the Animal Control Polk County web site to see if Bear was there and there was Bear's mug shot, the chocolate lab's mug shot," said Brozio. "And so then I was able to trace the deer to Florida Fish and Game." Brozio says Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission's attempt to release Bucket into the wild wasn't going well. "I don't think that Bucket was ...
