Air Crash Investigation US Airways 1549 - What Really Happened Part 2
What really happened? Air crash investigation - US Airways Flight 1549 (popularly referred to as the Miracle on the Hudson) was a scheduled commercial passenger flight from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina, that, on January 15, 2009, was successfully ditched in the Hudson River adjacent to Manhattan six minutes after departing from LaGuardia Airport. While on its initial climb out, the Airbus A320 struck a flock of Canada Geese which resulted in an immediate and nearly complete loss of thrust from both engines. When the aircrew determined that the aircraft would be unable to safely reach any airfield from its location just northeast of the George Washington Bridge, they turned it southbound and glided over the river into which they ditched the airliner near the USS Intrepid Museum in midtown Manhattan about three minutes later. All 155 occupants safely evacuated the airliner, which was still virtually intact though partially submerged and slowly sinking. The occupants were quickly rescued by nearby watercraft. The entire crew of Flight 1549 was later awarded the Master's Medal of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators. The award citation read, "This emergency ditching and evacuation, with the loss of no lives, is a heroic and unique aviation achievement."

www.baumhedlundlaw.com - Just hours after US Airways Flight 1549 ditched into the Hudson River, Fox Business Channel interviewed Los Angeles aviation attorney and pilot Ronald Goldman, a New York native, for his comments. The Airbus 320 aircraft took off from La Guardia Airport in New York City at 3:26 pm. Moments later the plane struck a flock of birds which disabled both engines causing an emergency landing situation which subsequently led the pilot to do what is called ditching into the Hudson River. Rescue efforts went into effect soon after while the crew of flight 1549 began to evacuate the aircraft. All 155 people survived the incident. Mr. Goldman comments on the distinction of the pilot and crew in their incredible efforts to perform the emergency procedures calmly and effectively. Although reports of some passengers experiencing hypothermia were rushed to local hospitals, no life-threatening injuries have been reported.

Captain Sullenberger; The right man, in the right place, at the right time. We should all try to be just a little bit more like this man. He was one cool cookie when most of us would have been freaking out. He did his job most likely as good as anyone in the world could have; he was 100% professional, calm, cool, and collected. Like he said, his entire life was in preparation to handle that particular moment. A few days after the crash he called the library to inform them that he was not going to be able to return a book that he had checked out, because it was still on the plane, and that he was sorry. The library wouldn't tell anyone the name of the book, but they did tell us the subject matter, which was professional ethics. He must have been honing up his character traits; trying to make himself a better man. jbranstetter04 Hudson River crash recordings reveal calm of Captain Sullenberger His quick thinking under pressure has already been hailed across the world. Now transcripts of the final communication from the aircraft that crashed on the Hudson reveal how its pilot calmly radioed air traffic controllers that he was planning to land in the river next to Manhattan. The audio recordings from the stricken jet, released yesterday, reveal that air traffic control met the news with disbelief. Were going to be in the Hudson, Captain Chesley Sully Sullenberger told the tower in a deadpan voice. Im sorry, say again, an air traffic controller responded. There was no answer ...
