Is there something in the water or is it the school spirit? Whatever the case, North Carolina is on a roll. BF Grady Elementary School was crowned the seventh champion in US Cellulars Calling All Communities $1 million campaign. Just 37 miles away, Wayne Country Day School in Goldsboro cashed in on Friday, Jan. 19. This is something our community will talk about forever, said BF Grady Principal Douglas Hill, who got the $100000 call one day before the surprise announcement. This whole experience fostered a lot of teambuilding among the staff. Everyone just jumped in to own this. Albertson is one of many close-knit communities across our state that is committed to education, said Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton. The residents worked hard to earn this win and should be very proud of this phenomenal accomplishment.
Most people would scream for joy if they received a call saying they had won $100000. Thats exactly what Wayne Country Day Schools principal did after US Cellular representatives shared that the school was the sixth $100000 winner in its 2010 Calling All Communities campaign. I just screamed before I even realized it, said Wayne Countrys principal Todd Anderson whose excitement was overheard by an office filled with staff and parents. We worked really hard as a community for this win. Something this big just doesnt happen everyday. Turns out no element of surprise was needed. Todays emotional victory celebration united hundreds of students, faculty, parents and community members with more than 40 US Cellular associates who were armed with t-shirts, 100 Grand candy bars and lots of confetti. The overwhelming amount of community support that Wayne Country received during the campaign makes winning this money even more special, said Mayor Al King. This is a day that Goldsboro wont soon forget. After getting their feet wet in last years Calling All Communities campaign, Wayne Country resurfaced this year with a spirit of determination. The Chargers ramped up their efforts by soliciting votes throughout the holiday break and kept the momentum going with strong alumni support. They also received special words of encouragement from Wendy Hooks, principal of 2009 Calling All Communities Champion Brogden Primary School in Dudley, NC In the end, Wayne Country upset several ...
Kalmiopsis Elementary Schools address is 650 Easy St. How fitting since the faculty and students received news today that they won $100000 in US Cellulars $1 million Calling All Communities campaign. It was one of the hardest secrets I ever had to keep, said Kalmiopsis Principal Helena Chirinian, who was sworn to secrecy after receiving the call a few days ago. The support of parents and our community really made this win possible. I cant thank them enough. What started off as a regular school assembly transformed into a surprise takeover by 30 US Cellular associates launching confetti while tossing T-shirts and 100 Grand candy bars into the stands. Reactions varied from screams of excitement to tears of joy as the news was delivered to a gym packed with students, faculty and parents. Kalmiopsis has earned a victory that our entire community can celebrate, Brookings Mayor Larry Anderson said. Its a welcomed boost in funding that will benefit one of our most precious assets our children. Throughout the campaign, Kalmiopsis never appeared in the top 10 rankings, but support from the Brookings community of 6200 residents pushed them into the winners circle in the final stretch.
After enduring more than a month of suspense, the close-knit community of Selah, Wash., finally got to exhale. During a surprise school assembly, US Cellular officials announced Robert Lince Elementary School as the fourth $100000 champion in the companys Calling All Communities campaign. Oh my word! This is so awesome, said an ecstatic Principal Susan Petterson, when notified of the schools victory only days ago. We are a small community, so we just pulled together, worked hard and hoped it would pay off. Not only is this a victory for Robert Lince Elementary School, its a victory for Selah, said Mayor Bob Jones. This accomplishment proves that hard work can yield great rewards.
We suprised the school during a dodgeball tournament and had a great time dancing the afternoon away. Check out the celebration!

US Cellular is launching its latest spot in the Believe in Something Better campaign today. For the spot, Riney tapped avante-garde artist, Diem Chau, and her highly lauded Storytelling Crayons work. Using a range of Chau's carved Crayon people, the Riney team melted them down and then played it in reverse using in-camera special effects to demonstrate that, no matter what happens to your phone, your numbers (and connections) will stay just how you imagined them. The Northwestern baseball team lived out every baseball player's childhood fantasy on April 15 when they took on Notre Dame at US Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox. The larger venue gave the players an opportunity to experience the thrill of playing in a Major League stadium, while Northwestern students, alumni and fans were able to root, root, root for the home team from the best seats in the house. Students involved in the Northwestern News Network produced an online telecast of the game and served as play-by-play announcers, on-field reporters and scoreboard controllers. Northwestern did its part and collected a win, defeating Notre Dame by a score of 5-1. Senior catcher Tony Vercelli belted two home runs to seal the victory. Full story: www.northwestern.edu
US Cellulars Calling All Communities tour of surprise $100000 announcements, leaving 10 lucky schools making big plans for their windfalls. The nationwide contest doled out $1 million to schools across the country based solely on their ability to garner community support. The Calling All Communities announcements were punctuated with bursts of confetti, cheering company associates, ecstatic students, and tearful teachers overcome with joy at schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, North Carolina, Tennessee, Nebraska, West Virginia and Oklahoma. We wanted to create a way for schools to not just win, but to work together as a community toward a common purpose, said Karen Ehlers, vice president of public affairs and communications for US Cellular. This campaign created a remarkable energy and community pride that was much bigger than any of us anticipated. School principals, who were let in on the surprise days earlier and sworn to secrecy, were finally able to share their joy with the communities that worked together to drum up enough votes to place them into a Top 10 spot.
