Jim Bower of Bower Trading thinks there are market factors in play that USDA has not acknowledged in its May Supply/Demand report. Sometimes what is important is not the numbers in the report, but the market reaction, he says. This report initially declared negative yet trading has been rather positive. Bower believes the global numbers may the highest we see for these crops. We may have gotten the US crop off to a good start but it is a far cry from being made, he says. Theres also a good chance the Chinese crop may be smaller than the 166 mmt USDA used, and purchases may also be better. To learn more, visit www.AgWeb.com.
In its first look at 2010 production and use, USDA provided a lot of information for traders to mull over, but most will take it with a grain of salt, knowing that both acreage and yields may change in the course of the growing season. Good news for corn included the fact that USDA didnt find more in the Dakotas, did raise world use 2%, as well as US exports (200million bushels) and ethanol use (300 million bu.), leaving carryout below 2 billion, Jerry Gulke of the Gulke Group reports. Soybean carryover was unchanged, which is neutral to bearish as the trade wanted to see it reduced. To learn more, visit www.AgWeb.com.
New Crop Circle near Stonehenge reported 9th of may. Not man-made, see A.Pyrka's field report below Crop Circle Authority researcher Andrew Pyrka' s field report It was Sunday 7th of July 1996 when the crop circle makers made a day light formation in the same field, almost 14 years ago !. The makers have returned to this location once again by making a giant 500 foot (exactly in length ) formation, lying close to the A303 but yet you wouldnt know its there. Directly opposite is Stonehenge which is patrolled by security throughout the night. When we arrived it was still dark and parked close to the perimeter of Stonehenge and without much delay torch light was soon beaming towards us. It is without doubt that these guys were very observant and soon questioned us if we had any intentions of JUMPING , this is a term used by them as frequent jumpers climb over the fence and run towards Stonehenge just to touch the stones. We in turn asked them if they saw or heard anything in the last few nights, they replied that they did not see or hear anything unusual and were unaware of the formation even being there. The makers once again have chosen a less mature crop but I think we can safely say that position and location plays an important part in their choice of delivering that important message to us all. Whatever the message may be, Im sure it will keep us busy theorizing over the next few months. The frost covered Canola formation was just so immense that at eye level its very ...
If you havent already priced some 2010 beans, you may want to do it before the fall below $9, says Jerry Gulke of the Gulke Group in Chicago. We found more beans than in the January stocks report—they likely were in transit when the survey was taken. Thats like adding another million acres. At the same time, I think well ultimately plant more than the 78 million USDA projected in todays Planting Intentions report. Add to that slow movement of the South American crop and we could have burdensome supplies this fall. Listen to Jerrys tape for more details. For more, visit www.AgWeb.com.
The market didnt know what to make of todays corn and soybean reports, trading erratically, says Jerry Gulke of The Gulke Group. What will be very disappointing is if the corn market closes down 4 cents or 5 cents after the news is digested.
Todays reports were somewhat negative for corn and neutral for soybeans, says Bryan Doherty, analyst for Top Farmer Intelligence. If you have some new-crop sales in place, I wouldnt do much more on the basis of these reports. However, if you have no sales made, Id be proactive and get some sold, hoping theyll prove to be the worst sales you make. Listen to his full comments and advice here.
