The US Postal System, Fed-Ex and UPS are all getting ripped off by scabbers. Nearly each day I get a package where the shipper is using expensive stolen shipping supplies as packing materials. The post office broke away from being part of the US Government funding system in 1971 and is now $10B+ in debt and sinking faster. They will need a Government bailout soon. This does not seem like the time to allow people to use Post Office supplies as free packing material. Midwest Watchdog
At approximately 5:30pm on October 26, 2009, while driving East on Hwy. 8 towards Turtle Lake, WI, I came upon the scene of what appeared to be a bomb situation. In the early afternoon, according to the onlookers in the Wayne's Cafe parking lot across from the Super America, an unidentified package wrapped in duct tape was found on the exterior of the Super America next to the USPS Mail Box. Law enforcement coordinated off the area and called in the Marathon County Bomb Squad. At 6pm, the bomb squad was attempting to use a robotic arm to remove the object. Every Saturday, Sunday and Holiday the Osceola and St Croix Valley Railway re-creates what was once a fixture of American life: Catching the mail on the fly. Until about 1967 when the US Postal Service switched to airplanes and trucks for mail distribution, Railway Post Office cars were operated at the head end of every passenger train. Mail was sorted en route. At every small town, a mailbag would be hung at the station. As the train passed, a Postal Employee would extend the RPO car's mail hook to grab the mail bag. Mail for that station would be ready in a bag at the door, to be kicked out onto the ground. The o&stcv's 11:00 am departure for Dresser re-creates this by backing out of the station so that they can catch the mail at track speed. Retired RMS employees staff the RPO, explaining the history and operation to passengers. This is fairly unique - to my knowledge only one other museum in the US re-creates this on a scheduled basis. Bonus - SDP40 6327 is tagging along so that it can be turned on the wye at Dresser.
