Emitting only a breeze of fresh air might seem like a dream, but it's the latest invention by French engineer Guy Negre. He estimates the new vehicle will cost about 4000 Euros and travel a maximum speed of about 93 miles per hour. As a former Formula one motor racing engineer, Negre strongly believes he is introducing the car of the future to the market — he's hoping by the beginning of 2010. According to Negre, his engine is twice as efficient as regular cars, using up to 60 percent of its capacity, and offers a zero-pollution vehicle suitable for urban driving. This can remove particles and even contaminants from engine oil. Fleet maintenance facilities generate hundreds of used oil filters every year. Managing and disposing of used oil filters can be expensive. An alternative to this is the use of reusable filters. Using reusable oil filters eliminates oil filter waste generation, reduces onsite oil filter inventory, eliminates draining and crushing of used filters, and eliminates waste filter storage and disposal. In most cases, reusable oil filters last the life of the vehicle. The filter is simply removed, cleaned with a parts washer and replaced. Aqueous cleaning is far more cost effective than solvent use. Aqueous solutions are water based, nonflammable, and contain little or no VOCs. They also work as well as solvents and last longer. There are four types of aqueous cleaning units available, sink-top, spray cabinet, ultrasonic and immersion. Microbial sink-top units are used like a traditional solvent sink. The solution of these units contain microbes that eat the oil and organic soils cleaned off of parts. This minimizes waste and extends the life of the solution. These units are most effective on parts with light oil, grease and dirt and are used for quick cleaning jobs. Aerosol products should never be used over a microbial sink-top. The issue of an increasingly damaged environment has more recently been brought to the attention of people all around the world. As we look deeper into the issue, we begin to understand that there is one main reason for all of the problems with the environment today: people. We need to realize that as inhabitants of the environment, we are the only ones who can make a change. Our lab is specifically designed to show the effects of motor vehicle pollution on the environment in urban cities. With all of the public transportation that is provided, there still seems to be massive amounts of cars that drive through the cities each day. The mobile sources contribute to air pollution in urban areas through combustion, which is burning fuel to create power, and evaporation, which converts liquid to a vapor. When the fuel does not burn completely, carbon monoxide forms; this is harmful because it reduces the oxygen that the human body needs. Nitrogen oxides are also a problem that results from motor vehicle fuel burning at high temperatures; humans are affected by this because it may cause breathing problems, as well as ozone and smog in the air which makes it difficult to see distances. The pollution problem due to motor vehicles in urban areas can be solved easily—people need to understand that there are alternative ways to travel. The increase in global marine traffic has resulted in a steep increase in marine pollution. The US and the EU have reacted by raising financial penalties for environmental polluters. Ship owners caught out can be fined up to $1 million in the US, and their ships can be barred from US ports for up to 5 years. Within the EU, France now fines captains guilty of dumping oil in to the sea up to 300 000 Euro. Eberhard Runge from the Hamburg-based company Mahle NFV has spent decades lobbying for better environmental protection at sea. The engineer has developed a filter system that works with ultraviolet light. Now that legislation has been tightened on sea pollution, demand for his technology is growing although the shipping companies are still sceptical.
