www.mditv.com Portland's MDiTV creates 24-hour online health network by Joe Smith, KGW PORTLAND -- A Portland start-up website, MDiTV, hopes to use the indispensable Google model to create around-the-clock health advice via video programming and social media. "What we see is the development of a 24 health information broadcast network utilizing real time web 3.0 technologies," said Dr. Robert R. Lazzara, CEO of MDiTV. Lazzara came up with the idea after producing the first live web cast of an open heart surgery more than a decade ago. But, now broadband technology has caught up to his vision. "We've got multiple channels, we can deliver those channels and we can deliver those channels to any end point," said Lazzara. To help launch the network. Andrew Holtz, a veteran from CNN. was picked as the site's main anchor and senior news editor. He said he's used to taking chances. "I started with CNN when it was only six weeks old," said Holtz between shooting news updates at the company's headquarters at the Leftbank Building in Portland. MDiTV's programs target women, surgeons and physicians. A cadre of content producers use social media to find an audience that compliment the web shows. "That's a work in progress, they can find us on Facebook, the can find us on Twitter", said social media director, Drew Hanson. The company uses blogs to create virtual communities for people to share and explore options and information regarding health care. An iPhone app is in the works. But ...

The Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre is the first and one of the largest congenital heart disease programs in the world. It serves as both a provincial (Ontario) and national resource program for adults with congenital heart disease. The ACHD Program has provided care to more than 12000 patients since 1959 and a multidisciplinary team provides expert care to 6000 active patients. Directed by Dr. Erwin Oechslin, the ACHD Program has achieved international recognition for its longstanding leadership in this challenging and often neglected aspect of medicine and is internationally recognized as the premier program for ACHD for its successes in patient care, education and research. It is the only congenital cardiac program for adults in Toronto and, together with 14 other regional programs across Canada, joins in the Canadian Adult Congenital Heart Network. The care and research standards of the ACHD Program have advanced ACHD care worldwide. The ACHD program at PMCC and the Labatt Family Heart Centre at the Hospital for Sick Children have a long standing collaboration between ACHD cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists, and congenital heart surgeons which is recognized as a model providing the best care for young adults graduating from pediatric cardiology. Congenital heart disease includes defects of the heart present since birth due to developmental abnormality of one or more structures of the heart or blood vessels (ie narrowed or ...

Congenital heart disease (CHD) being born with a heart defect is the most common birth defect in the United States affecting one out of every 120 babies. Because of major advances in medical and surgical care, more than 90 percent of these patients are living into adulthood. Surgical simulation presents a virtual environment where surgeons can train surgical procedures. Our research has focused on the development of faster calculation of deformation and visualization. We seek to simulate very complex morphology in real-time. The clinical application for the project is congenital cardiac diseases in cooperate with Ole Kromann Hansen, MD and Vibeke Hjortdal, MD from the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Aarhus University Hospital. For the data aquisition we work with Gerhald Greil, MD from University of Tübingen.

CARDIAC SURGERY SIMULATION The real-time simulation of congenital heart surgery has been a research project since 2003. We have successfully designed and implemented a very detailed cardiac surgical simulation through the utilization of the GPU for general purpose calculations, eg soft tissue deformation, displacement mapping and haptic feedback. We have written a number of papers on these subjects (see jespermosegaard.dk/Publications). The research project was done in cooperation with computer scientists and surgeons from Aarhus, London and Tübingen. He was 50. The website reported that Jackson suffered a heart attack just after 12:00 pm (1900 GMT) local time and paramedics were unable to revive him. Jackson's manager Tohme E. Tohme was not immediately available for comment when contacted by media. Officials at UCLA Medical Center where Jackson was treated also could not be reached for comment. sad but true michael jackson pronounced dead after a suspected heart atack in his room. US gossip website TMZ.com said ambulance officers were unable to revive the pop legend after they were called to his house about 5.30am (AEST). Paramedics said Jackson had no pulse when they arrived and "they never got a pulse back", TMZ reports. The Los Angeles Times is also reporting the 50-year-old has died, quoting police sources who said Jackson was pronounced dead at the UCLA Medical Centre after arriving in a deep coma. Fire department official Steve Ruda said Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the 111 call. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to the Medical Centre, Ruda told the Times. Earlier, Michael's father Joe Jackson told E! Online he was aware of the emergency but did not know further details. "I am in Las Vegas, but yes, people in Los Angeles called me and are with Michael and tell me he was taken to the hospital," he said. "I am not sure what's wrong. The reports came as Jackson prepared to make a keenly anticipated concert comeback in London, his first series of shows in more than a decade and the first since his 2005 acquittal on child molestation charges. However those concerts — billed as the "final curtain" — had been thrown into doubt after Jackson pushed back the opening dates last month. Organisers of the concerts had stressed the delay was not linked to Jackson's health ...
www.PreOp.com Patient Education Company Then the doctor will make a small cut over the femoral artery in the upper part of the leg. A special needle is then inserted into the artery itself. Then a guide wire is carefully passed through the needle and gently pushed into the artery and upwards towards your chest. A narrow tube, called a catheter is threaded along the wire until it too has reached the coronary artery Next, the doctor uses the catheter to inject a dye into the artery itself. The die shows up on a TV monitor and is used to pinpoint the exact location of the blocked area. Once the restricted area has been identified, a thin wire is inserted into the catheter, and is guided all the way to the blocked area and then slightly beyond. This wire acts as guide for the balloon catheter. It allows your doctor to position the deflated balloon precisely in the middle of the narrowest part of the coronary artery. The balloon is briefly inflated. As it expands, it squeezes the plaque deposits against the wall of the artery. It also stretches the artery wall and enlarges the channel through which blood flows. Your doctor will continue to inflate and deflate the balloon until normal blood flow has been restored. Finally, after a thorough investigation of the region, the catheters and guide wire are withdrawn. The dye that had been injected will break up and leave your body as waste. Slight pressure is applied to the incision in your leg in order to prevent bleeding. Patient ...
