Former Strathclyde Volvo Citybus AH72 has had the most interesting history out of any of the 101 Volvo Citybuses. Sold from First to preservation in May 2006 then sold back to service with DJ International in August 2009 and then passed to WJC Buses in July 2010. This recording was taken between WJC's farmyard and garage in Airdrie.

I was on my way home when i saw the new Hybrid bus. I get very excited every time I got a chanse to ride in that bus. Usually the bus doesnt use it's diesel-engine when standing still or going slower than around 25km/h but this time it did. Maybe it needed to load the batteries. However you can here that the bus doesnt make any sound at all before I get of it. When I was riding the bus i saw the biarticulated Volvo 7500 so i filmed it as well. Im so lucky because both these buses passes right outside my window all the time. Right now actually one of them passed.

Volvo 7700 Hybrid bus is a modern, two-axle city bus with hybrid power - giving you fuel savings of up to 30 percent! The bus is a parallel hybrid featuring diesel and electric power that can operate independently of the other. The electric motor is used to start and accelerate the bus up to about 20 km/h, enabling considerable fuel savings. At higher speeds, the diesel engine takes over, while also recharging the batteries. The electric motor serves both as a motor and a generator. When the brakes are applied, the retardation energy is transmitted to charge the batteries.
Volvo first with FUPS in COACHES. In a frontal collision between a bus and a passenger car, it is the occupants of the car that suffer the greatest risk of injury. In order to improve their safety, the Volvo 9700 is equipped with FUPS (Front Underrun Protection System). The underrun protection system consists of a steel beam fitted behind the bumper that prevents the car from becoming wedged under the bus. In a collision, it absorbs the cars impact energy while at the same time giving under the impact and allowing itself to deform to lessen the force of the impact. Volvo is the first vehicle manufacturer to fit this type of underrun protection system to buses.
