Motion type for the Second year After Effects Assignment - The motion type had to be based around a New Zealand poem. I chose war by Reimke Ensing and tried to portay its hollow, fictional portrayal of war, when the poet has no experience with the subject herself.

Meremere in the northern Waikato region in the North Island of New Zealand approx 50 kilometres north of Hamilton. In 1983 it was the place of fierce Maori wars but in the 1950's it became the site for a coal fired power station. This film was taken during construction (and one of those floods).

It began life as a humble bullock track in 1843, linking Auckland to the Waikato. As the years progressed however, Great South Road became a vital supply route, transporting munitions for the controversial Waikato War and, later, livestock and produce. It was finally paved in the 1930s, making it fit for cars and the subsequent waves of migrants who travelled its length. In his exhibition The Great South Road, photographer Peter Quinn documents the route's history and the lives of the people who live there. Quinn will also give a talk and slide presentation about his 15 years' experience with NZ Geographic at the exhibition opening this afternoon.

We were at the Hamilton zoo recently and we noticed a Kea there. On a lark, my wife and child start talking French to it. Apparently it understood what we wanted (it matched exactly what the Kea wanted in any case).
