Kansas State's terrific 2009-2010 regular season carried over into the postseason, where the Wildcats reached the Big 12 championship final for the first time in school history. In the NCAA tournament, K-State advanced to a regional final for the first time since 1988, finishing the season with a school-record 29 wins. This year, the Wildcats are ranked in the top five nationally and expected to compete for a national title. Big 12 coaches picked K-State to finish first in the league. The Wildcats are led by preseason Big 12 player of the year, Jacob Pullen. The senior guard averaged nearly 20 points per game last year and hit a team-high 110 3-pointers. Pullen says he's already begun imparting wisdom he's accumulated over three years of playing in the Big 12 to younger players on the team, especially with high expectations surrounding K-State this season. K-State is strong on both ends of the floor -- Kelly, sophomore Wally Judge, and Big 12 preseason newcomer of the year Freddy Asprilla round up the forward positions. And at guard, the Wildcats appear capable of replacing Denis Clemente's double-figure production from last season. But Coach Martin says the transition isn't as easy as plugging guys into a lineup.
