Mad Men Star John Slattery Pitches for Kathleen Rice for NY Attorney General 'Roger Sterling' tells fans to vote for 'tough,' 'smart' & 'compassionate' longtime friend and former classmate to be New York State's first woman AG NEW YORK, NY (Sept. 10, 2010) -- Veteran actor John Slattery, who plays Roger Sterling on AMC's wildly popular series Mad Men, has gotten involved in the hotly contested five-way Democratic primary for New York attorney general by throwing his weight behind Kathleen Rice, a district attorney who if elected would be the first woman attorney general in the state's history. Slattery isn't alone among celebrities supporting Rice, who was elected as Long Island's first woman district attorney in 2005, defeating a 31-year, anti-choice Republican incumbent. Also supporting DA Rice are Queer as Folk star Michelle Clunie and Bravo's Andy Cohen. Slattery discussed his support with a video that DA Rice posted today on her website, www.kathleenrice.com, and is linked via an advertisement running on major news websites likely to be seen by New York voters. In the video, Slattery says: "Hi I'm John Slattery and I have known Kathleen Rice since we went to college together. I can tell you that she's smart, she's tough, she's compassionate, and I think she'd make an ideal attorney general. She's been a prosecutor her whole career, has an amazing record of success in important and difficult legal cases, cases involving sexual predators, drunk drivers, public ...
The news media frequently refers to Black Friday as the busiest retail shopping day of the year, but this is not always accurate. While it has been one of the busiest days in terms of pedestrian traffic at shopping centers, in terms of actual sales volume, from 1993 through 2001 Black Friday was usually the fifth to tenth busiest day. In 2002 and 2004, however, Black Friday ranked second place. In 2003 and 2005, Black Friday actually did reach first place. BLACK FRIDAY DEATHS BLACK FRIDAY 2008, 34-year-old Jdimytai Damour, a Long Island Walmart temporary employee, was trampled to death after frenzied shoppers smashed through the store's front doors. According to police, officers who arrived to perform CPR on the dying man were also stepped on and injured, as was a pregnant woman. BLACK FRIDAY 2008, two men shot each other to death in a Palm Desert, California Toys 'R' Us. A toy triggered the murders.

Black Friday is that infamous day after Thanksgiving where scores of Americans are expected to rush to their favorite store and buy lots of things for Christmas for dirt cheap. Some even camp out the night before just to get a better shot at the incredible deals! But something happened this past Black Friday that really changed my perspective on the whole dealYou probably saw it in the news: A 34 year old Wal-Mart employee in New York was trampled to death by the crowd that was rushing into the store where he worked to buy stuff. And thenreportedlywhen store management announced that they were closing the store because someone died, people started booing and getting upset because they wouldnt be able to buy the stuff theyd been waiting so long to buy. Can you believe that? (Pause) Seriously this whole deal completely blew me away! Have weas a society really sunk so low that first of all we would trample one of our fellow human beings to death just to save a few bucks on a new flat screen? And please tell me that weas a society wouldn't then proceed to boo store management and get all upset when they decide to close the store because someone died?! Youve got to be kidding me! Have we really become a society that is so focused on ourselvesso consumed with our own stuff that weve sunk this low? (Pause) It may be tough to admit, but its sad that this is what weve come to. And if I try to excuse it away by saying, Well if I were there at this Wal-Mart on this particular day ...

A few days after a Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death by a crowd of bargain shoppers, a candlelight vigil was held outside the store to remember the man and raise public awareness about the perils of excessive materialism. As VOA's Rosanne Skirble reports, the vigil, in a New York suburb, was led by a charismatic performance artist who calls himself Reverend Billy.

Just something for customers to think about at the end of a good shopping spree when you are acceptionally rude to the sales associates. Society makes its own monsters because they are monsters. www.nydailynews.com The truth is that the way customers treat sales associates doesn't just happen on Black Friday like the most recent where the man died. They often treat sales associates like objects, robots, nothings that are just there to serve. One day I predict that a sales associate will have a mental meltdown and society will reap what they have sown by being assholes to sales associates.
black friday 2008 - a wal-mart employee in New York was trampled by the crowd. he died and a 8 month pregnant woman may have miscarried last i heard. sorry about the video quality - and my ridiculous movement. my phone doesn't take great video, and i was angry and couldn't sit still. this is a raw phone upload as all i've got is movie maker (crap) friends don't let friend buy needless shit. PLEASE NOTE - i say something about child slave labor in Africa and i say "slave labor - it's a beautiful thing" and yeah - to clarify - that statement is dripping with sarcasm for anyone out there who might hear that and even think i'm remotely serious about that. sorry about the rambling. boycott wal-mart please. they suck. buy less stuff for people this christmas. give hugs, and make things for people. family and friends and love and peace - isn't that christmas? not stuff. we don't need stuff. we need each other.
How in the hell can some of you come to the conclusion that it's Wal-Mart's fault!?!? Fault belongs to the low life, insensitive, scum that trampled over this poor man. It's not because there was lack of security. Check out this black friday video that had just as many people with only one (1) security person controlling the crowd.
I read this morning about an employee of Wal-mart who was trampled by eager shoppers attempting to get to deals on TVs and digital cameras. You people are disgusting. Not only are you stupid enough to be suckered in by the possibility of saving a few measly dollars, you are also participating in the destruction of community and small business by supporting Walmart, a company whose business model is detrimental to our society every step of the way. Need additional information: Read "How Walmart is destroying America (and the World.)" or any other countless books on the subject. Everything Wamart does, from the way employees are treated to the sale of grey market goods, deceptive advertising, and beyond is horrible. You should not support Walmart. The argument that you are poor and need low prices is weak. First of all, very few items are actually better prices than other retailers, and further, there is a greater cost to supporting this business model. If you can not afford something, then you simply should not buy it until you can afford it. If you have any respect for yourself, your neighbors, your friends... don't shop at Walmart.
Absolutely crazy. People so quick to jump on a sale that they killed a man!
My first response video: My angry thoughts on what happened inside a Walmart yester, on Black Friday. Any insults about my accent will be removed.
