**Rest In Peace, Bishop Walter Hawkins** Bishop Walter Hawkins ministers with "Marvelous," one of his best-known songs, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC on April 24, 2010. This concert was a part of the "Joyful Sounds: Gospel Across America" celebration hosted by the Kennedy Center and organized by Rev. Nolan Williams. Bishop Hawkins is backed by my uncle, Dennis Sawyers, and one his best friends, Richard Smallwood. He opens up the selection with a personal testimony about how he'd been battling Pancreatic Cancer for the past 2 years, and how his love for God never wavered. The second half of the concert was devoted solely to the music ministry of Bishop Hawkins. The National Symphony Orchestra and choir are conducted by Stanley Thurston. Bishop Hawkins passed away on the evening of July 11, 2010 around 6:15pm, and THIS video was from his last public performance. I thank God that I was able to capture it. This is truly HISTORY! -Jared L. Sawyers-

Walter Hawkins & The Hawkins Family 'Jesus Christ Is The Way' Recorded, 1977
On Thursday, June 25th Bryan Wilson sang one of the songs from his forthcoming CD "Live Experiences" at Edwin & Walter Hawkins Love Fellowship Music & Arts Seminar in Toledo, OH. He was introduced by vocalist extraordinaire Melonie Daniels (who has backed up artists such as Mariah Carey as well as being a solo artist). On the front row of the audience was Richard Smallwood, Ted Winn, Donald Lawrence, Edwin Hawkins and Walter Hawkins. In the back of the room shouting Bryan on was LaShun Pace and Daryl Coley. The band had take a break when Bryan came up to sing so when he called for a drummer, Melonie stepped up! It was a fun night and lots of good music from Walter Hawkins, Leanne Faine, Peggy Lacey, the Whitfield Singers and many others. Oh and an incredible sermon by Bishop Kenneth Moales.

The Senior Choir of Wilfred Jury Public School under the direction of Rosemary Bannerman performs Walter Hawkin's "Goin' Up A Yonder" (arranged by Martin Sirvalka) as part of the prelude to begin the June 18, 2006 Christian Family Sunday service at Strathroy United Church. Arranged originally for the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus, Goin' Up A Yonder's melodic patterns, cannon-like technique and simple harmonic outline provide young singers with early success in part singing. SSAA arrangement by Martin Sirvatka. Walter Hawkins is an American gospel music singer born May 18, 1949 in Oakland, California. Hawkins is best known for his hit "Oh Happy Day" with The Edwin Hawkins Singers which became one of the first gospel songs to crossover onto mainstream charts. Walter left the group in the early 70's to pursue a solo career. He had considerable success with his Love Alive series which collectively sold over a million copies from the 70's through the 80's. Hawkins and his groups have recorded with Van Morrison, Diahann Carroll, Sylvester, Jeffrey Osborne, and many others. Walter is the brother of gospel singer Edwin Hawkins, former husband of gospel singer Tramaine Hawkins, and father of gospel/R&B singer and producer Jamie Hawkins.
