The film was directed and edited by Ron Hershey. I did not get the Fulbright, but rather received a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship to study traditional theater in Japan.

In August of 2002 while honeymooning in Bali, I went in search of a shaman my brother studied under in 1985 while on a Watson Fellowship. The shaman's name was Ketut Liyer, a man who more recently has been immortalized in Elizabeth Gilbert's book Eat, Prey, Love. While our meeting was short, the fact that I had at least a short interview of him (which I intended as a gift to my beloved brother), Gilbert's book (and the visit of a friend's friend from Bali who mentioned Julia Roberts was currently in Ubud to film a movie adaptation of the book) inspired me to dig out the tapes and post them here for all to see. Make of them what you will, but the meeting alone was magic enough for me. My brother's story of how Ketut helped him land his wife, all the more profound (tinyurl.com
