The ice drowning season is just upon us. Now is the time for Fire Fighters, First Responders, Dive Teams, and Law Enforcement to experience The New Wave of Public Safety Ice Diving, and for the public to learn what they should and should not do if someone falls through. Drowning is the 2nd most common cause of accidental death to children in the US and 3rd for adults. About half of these occur in cold water. Ice drowning victims have the highest chance of survival if quickly recovered and properly handled. Public safety ice diving requires procedures that result in rapid recoveries while keeping team members safe. Sadly, as seen regularly on the internet and in media reports, most public safety dive teams are trained with, and continue to use, sport ice diving procedures that involve thick ice. This is despite the fact that if a dog, child or adult falls through the ice, the ice is thin and unsupportive. Dive team personnel cannot walk, crawl, stand, or kneel on that ice. They cannot sit on pallets or chairs, cut stars in the snow, and fix free flowing regulators in warm water buckets during real calls, hence dive teams should not be taught to do so in training programs. It is now time to look at real world training for real world ice operations so that more victims can be saved and more rescuers can go home at the end of the day. The attached video shows scenes of the first of three levels of Lifeguard Systems public safety ice diving programs. No other company provides ...

Quantum Entanglement --- WAVE FUNCTION A wave function or wavefunction is a mathematical tool used in quantum mechanics to describe any physical system. It is a function from a space that maps the possible states of the system into the complex numbers. The laws of quantum mechanics (ie the Schrödinger equation) describe how the wave function evolves over time. The values of the wave function are probability amplitudes — complex numbers — the squares of the absolute values of which give the probability distribution that the system will be in any of the possible states. It is commonly applied as a property of particles relating to their wave-particle duality, where it is denoted ψ(position, time) and where | ψ | 2 is equal to the chance of finding the subject at a certain time and position. For example, in an atom with a single electron, such as hydrogen or ionized helium, the wave function of the electron provides a complete description of how the electron behaves. It can be decomposed into a series of atomic orbitals which form a basis for the possible wave functions. For ...

www.helpvid.net Google Wave Preview Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more. A wave is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more. A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when. A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time. Google Wave is designed as a new Internet communications platform. It is written in Java using openjdk and its web interface uses the Google Web Toolkit. Google Wave works like previous messaging systems like email and Usenet, but instead of sending a message along with its entire thread of previous messages, or requiring all responses to be stored in each user's inbox for context, message documents (referred to as waves) that contain complete threads of multimedia messages (blips) are perpetually stored on a central server. Waves are shared with collaborators who can be added to or removed from the wave at any point during a wave's existence. Waves, described by Google as "equal parts conversation and ...
Analogue Systems has just released a brand new module, the rs440 BBD Analogue Delay. This is an awesome sounding delay, utilizing a Panasonic 3011 BBD chip. Analogue Systems has done a great job keeping the price down on this voltage controllable delay. There is some clock noise at longer delay times but the use of a low pass filter after can easily rid you of it. Actually, the clock noise is pretty fun. You can use it as an effect! If you've had any experience with BBD delays you know that clock noise can be an issue. Luckily most modular users have multiple filters ;). The rs440 has two cv inputs for controlling the delay time, one with an attenuator. There's also cv in for controlling the wet / dry mix. In this video we're running a simple sequence using an rs95 square wave. The output of the VCA goes into the rs440, and the rs440's out into the rs100s Low Pass Filter. This delay sounds great and the feedback and freakouts have a wonderful tone to them. We're running one of our sequencer channels into the variable cv input, sequencing the delay time. Yes. Sequencing delay time! Woohoo! We also run a medium-speed triangle LFO into the fixed time near the end, which gives the delay a nice vibrato. Cheers!
The Active Denial System (ADS) is a non-lethal, directed-energy weapon developed by the US military. It is a strong millimeter-wave transmitter primarily used for crowd control (the "goodbye effect"). Some ADS systems such as HPEM ADS are also used to disable vehicles.[3] Informally, the weapon is also called pain ray. Raytheon is currently marketing a reduced-range version of this technology. The ADS is currently being considered for deployment in the Iraq War

Security screeners must have the proper tools to search not only baggage, but also people to preserve Homeland Security. It must go well beyond conventional screening technology which only finds certain objects and metals. Millivisions technology respectfully screens people; it finds plastic or ceramic weapons, liquids which could be mixed to create explosive materials, and other items and materials not found with the commonly used current body screening technology. Millivisions Video Imaging software and Automatic Threat Detection (ATD) converts the millimeter wave image, showing screeners a clothed picture of the person being screened, superimposing a red marker on the subject, to indicate the presence and location of concealed objects, and eliminating the need for operators to view privacy sensitive images as in the case of competitors systems. Their systems use passive millimeter wave technology, which means they use NO radiation. Millivision has a portal system (similar in look to the dated technology you currently walk in to at the entrance to airports and federal buildings), and a stand-off system which can be mounted on a wall or ceiling and scan people as they walk by.

One of the research projects at the Zugspitze comes as a surprise to most visitors. Scientists from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are working on GRIPS ,a device designed to improve tsunami early warning systems. The early warning system that Germany helped install in the Indian Ocean last year has a network of sensors at the sea bed,the water surface and the coast to detect seaquakes that might set off the massive waves. But whether a tsunami will actually occur is difficult to say. GRIPS may help. The device acts as a highly sensitive microphone to detect density fluctuations in the atmosphere generated by tsunamis. These acoustic signals lie in the infra-sound region (with frequencies around 1Hz). They are also produced by other events, such as when a piece of a meteor penetrates the earth's atmosphere. Such frequent events can be easily picked up by GRIPS on the Zugspitze. The device is being tested for industrial use. Next year it will be put to work in Asia to help make tsunami monitoring more reliable. Patrick Benning. __________________________________________ A beach in the Indian Ocean. An earthquake could occure beneath the sea floor. Its energy produces a giant wave that rolls toward the land. Geoscientists can describe with great precision how a tsunami is born - and what path it will take. They can even listen in on signals it makes in the atmosphere. The technology for the eavesdropping project is being tested here on the Zugspitze. It involves an infra ...
Date- 2nd Oct 09 Source- www.ciw.edu 'For several decades, scientists have thought that the Solar System formed as a result of a shock wave from an exploding star—a supernova—that triggered the collapse of a dense, dusty gas cloud that contracted to form the Sun and the planets. But detailed models of this formation process have only worked under the simplifying assumption that the temperatures during the violent events remained constant. Now, astrophysicists at the Carnegie Institutions Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (DTM) have shown for the first time that a supernova could indeed have triggered the Solar Systems formation under the more likely conditions of rapid heating and cooling. The results, published in the October 20, 2008, issue of the Astrophysical Journal, have resolved this long-standing debate.' More info- www.ciw.edu

We love the Roland TB-303 (who doesn't?), so we went nuts with some Analogue Systems rs95 oscillators, triggering them with the CV and Gate outputs from the 303. The sound of the 303 is given additional balls by processing it through the Malekko B:Assmaster Germanium pedal...sacrilege. You can hear the TB-303 without extra balls at the very end between 6:12 - 6:18. Along with the AS rs95 oscillators we're also using the rs110 Multimode Filter, the rs120 Comb Filter, and the rs100 Low Pass Filter. The drums sounds are from the behemoth Jomox xbase 999 and we're using the Kenton Pro Solo MIDI-CV converter to sync the 303. One of the cymbals from the Jomox is running through the AS rs310 Reverb/Chorus module, which is being modulated by the rs80 lfo's triangle wave. The rs290 Sample/Delay module is providing the delay for that cymbal as well. All of these sounds are being mixed by the rs165 Signal Mixer.

While working as a teacher in New York City in 1998, Jonathan Mirin (GRS'03) got a stock tip from a friend: "Wave Systems," he was told, "is selling for a dollar a share. In a few years, it will sell for $500 a share." Mirin, who would later graduate from bu's Creative Writing Program, believed what he heard. He bought the stock, using credit cards to pay for it. And while that investment led directly to bankruptcy court, it eventually did pay off, in the form of an autobiographical one-man play written and performed by Mirin. Riding the Wave.com, first produced in 2003 at the Boston Playwrights' Theatre, premiered at the New York Fringe Festival in 2004. Now, produced by Mirin's own Piti Theatre Company, it's back at the Playwrights' Theatre, where it is playing through January 20. Mirin's entertaining monologue takes his audience from his personal investment woes in New York to meditation centers in the Swiss Alps and Katmandu, where he meets his future wife, Godelieve, and realizes that "meditation should not be used as a way of hiding, but instead for facing what you are." These days, according to Mirin, he no longer invests in stocks. "I'm not allowed," he says, "because I want to stay married, and that's a condition." Riding the Wave.com is playing through January 20 at the Boston Playwrights' Theatre, 949 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. Performances are at 7 pm Thursday, January 17, through Saturday, January 19, and at 2 pm on Sunday, January 20. Tickets can be ...

SDE Energy Ltd. is a Tel Aviv, Israel manufacturer and marketer of Sea Wave Power Plants - utilizing sea wave energy to produce electricity economically, and in an environmentally-friendly manner claiming that their system can generate electricity for 2 cents per kwh. Basically, the buoys are placed on a breakwater and they move up and down, according to the frequency of sea waves. The buoys' movement press a hydraulic liquid, which is regulated by systems that convert the energy to circular systems that operate an electric generator. The buoys, which make 10% of the system, are placed in the water, and the rest of the whole system, which makes 90%, is set on land with the option being located on up to 500 meters from sea shore. In the event of storms, the system is easily accessible for technical service. Additionlly, the buoys are neutralized and laid down on the jetty or the shore.
