The application, first launched in July, allows users to access videos in Apple-friendly formats from major sites including CNN, NBC, HBO, The Discovery Channel, and YouTube. In November, I interviewed CEO Peter Kocks about the then-forthcoming updates, and he demonstrates the new query completion and sorting functions. In the segment, Kocks also explains how Apple is driving the standardization of video formats. Although Flash dominates the web, non-PC and mobile video is shifting toward the H.264 and progressive downloading formats favored by Apple, he says. "Because the iPhone has become so popular as a medium, as a place for viewing videos, many content producers are making sure that their content is available either through podcasts or either directly onto the iPhone," he says in the interview. "And that has in my opinion slowly started to shift the video industry a little bit toward that standard." The standardization of video formats that Apple is driving could be a key step toward more advertising revenue for publishers. Gina de Mendonca, a partner at neo@Ogilvy, told me in an interview after the Beet Online Video Roundtable at 30 Rock that the lack of standardized video formats was one of the primary obstacles to advertising spending online. --Kelsey Blodget, Associate Producer

Open http://TilTul.com website, In Add Group select Job Search for search in US. Click the Box near the websites which you plan to search their job offering. (Tabs in Firefox IE-8, or multiple Windows in other browsers) The first time when you click GO!, you will get a message on the top Asking for your approval to allow POP-UPs from TilTul. Adobe already has Flash running on an iPhone emulator. Andy interviewed Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch about the evolution of Flash at the MIT Technology Review EmTech08 conference last week. Flash is the most broadly deployed technology on the web today and the Flash Player is responsible for drastically improving the online video viewing experience, according to Lynch. Flash would improve the viewing of web video and rich media pages on the iPhone, so we hope Apple says yes to the technology sooner rather than later. Adobe will continue working on online video innovations, like text search within video, indexing video with search engines at different time points, and interactivity, Lynch says. This is the second of our interview with Lynch. Last week we posted an interview about Adobe and mobile devices. Historically, the Web delivered most of its value by satisfying explicit user actions—users entered a search query on Google, users entered a review on Yelp, user added their friends on Facebook. However, as people spend more time online (and perform more of their activities online), they leave a trail of "digital breadcrumbs" that expose data about themselves. The result is an immense amount of implicit user data. Netflix knows what movies I watch and like. Apple knows what music I purchase and listen to. Amazon knows what books I purchase and like. Evite knows what events and parties I'm going to. TiVo knows what TV shows I like. OpenTable knows where I like to eat. Fandango knows what movies I go to. Ticketmaster knows what shows I've seen. American Express knows my spending habits. However, until now, that data has existed in silos. There has been no easy way for me (as a user) to access and benefit from that data. The next big wave of Internet value creation will come to those companies that can deliver value based on the implicit use of these data sources—by taking advantage of these existing data repositories in novel ways.

NIELSEN has released the results of a major study of online viewing habits. The study found that women are twice as likely as men to tune into network television on the web. Men 18-34 are twice as likely as women to watch user-generated content on YouTube and other video-sharing sites. The study found that 73% of regular Internet users have watched online video. GOOGLE said that iPhone users conduct 50 times more Internet searches than other mobile users - underscoring the major revenue potential for mobile advertising on well-designed Internet-capable phones. The company expects to see mobile searches surpass fixed Internet searches within a few years. However, this week Google lost a major contract with T-Mobile, who will now use Yahoo for its mobile searches. KEVIN MARTIN has issued a letter to the NCTA asking and "strongly encouraging" cable operators to voluntarily carry low power TV stations to help them survive the digital transition. LPTV stations are not required to switch to digital next year, and yet the FCC is hoping that most analog TV's will have digital-to-analog convertor boxes. If the transition is successful, this would leave LPTV stations broadcasting an analog signal that no one can receive. Martin's request comes in addition to his plan to grant full-power status to 500 Class A Stations, which would grant them cable carriage rights. The NCTA has asked for help from legislators in fighting off the new regulations. COMCAST has reportedly bought PLAXO for $175 million, according to Silicon Valley blog ValleyWag. Plaxo is a mixture of an online address book and social network that already provides services to Comcast customers. Rumors had circulated that Google made the acquisition, but ValleyWag claims to have spoken with sources close to the deal. Comcast has been making some major online moves of late, buying Fandango and launching video search tool Fancast.com. APPLE has released the AppleTV "Take 2″ — a software update that brings HD movie rentals to the AppleTV box. HD rentals cost $3.99 for library titles and $4.99 for new releases. Users have 30 days to watch a rental and 24 hours after beginning a movie before it is automatically deleted. CLEAR CHANNEL's sale to two private equity firms for $19 billion has been approved by the Department of Justice. In related news, Clear Channel is backtracking on its experimental new advertising initiative. The "Less is More" program was designed to use incredibly short commercials that, in theory, would bring in higher rates and give listeners a more satisfying listening experience. Since launching the program overall revenue has shrunk and prices for the short ads have been lower than expected. Ok, it's not Android, but it's still pretty sweet. Google has combined and optimized a bunch of web apps to work on the iPhone. What makes it so great is that there is a menu at the top that links to ... all the other apps. It also seems to pre-cache your other apps so when search it's searching images in the background and they are ready right away when you tap images. APPLE has removed all NBC content from iTunes. The contract between the two parties has expired and no new agreement is in place. NBC content accounted for 30% of iTunes TV show sales. AOL has canceled its paid download service and partnered with AMAZON Unbox for digital download sales. Unbox content has been given its own section on AOL Video and also been integrated into the site's search results. AOL will focus its own internal efforts on offering free, ad-supported video content. YOUTUBE continues to dominate online video, according to the latest Video Metrix report released by comScore. During September, YouTube garnered over 27% of online video traffic in the U.S. and nearly 40% of Internet users visited the site. The overall average length of an online video in September was 2.7 minutes. VIVENDI will acquire a controlling stake in ACTIVISION, merge the company with its own gaming division and form a new company called Activision Blizzard. Vivendi will end up owning 68% of the new entity. The deal is expected to make Activision Blizzard the video game industry leader in terms of revenue. COMEDY CENTRAL will make Atom.com its new home for original online content and will triple its investment in making videos for the web. The Atom site will allow the network to separate its original online content from its major TV properties, such as the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Comedy Central hopes that creating a dedicated destination will help its original Internet content find an audience. KEVIN MARTIN reportedly has the support of a majority of FCC members to cap the market share of cable companies at 30%.
