Disasters are a development concern. Frequently disasters are seen as extreme hazard events, which are beyond our control. This film seeks to demonstrate that rather than simply hazard driven, disasters are the result of vulnerabilities and failures in development accumulated over many years, such as unsafe conditions, dynamic pressures and socio-economic and political systems. The film is aimed at development practitioners, politicians and donors and argues that disasters are a development concern and asks for risk reduction to be mainstreamed into development planning. STS-115 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Atlantis. It was the first assembly mission to the ISS after the Columbia disaster, following the two successful Return to Flight missions, STS-114 and STS-121. STS-115 launched from Pad 39-B at the Kennedy Space Center on 9 September 2006 at 11:14:55 EDT (15:14:55 UTC). The mission is also referred to as ISS-12A by the ISS program. The mission delivered the second port-side truss segment (ITS P3/P4), a pair of solar arrays (2A and 4A), and batteries. A total of three spacewalks were performed, during which the crew connected the systems on the installed trusses, prepared them for deployment, and did other maintenance work on the station. STS-115 was originally scheduled to launch in April 2003. However, the Columbia accident in February 2003 pushed the date back to 27 August 2006, which was again moved back for various reasons, including a threat from Tropical Storm Ernesto and the strongest lightning strike to ever hit an occupied shuttle launchpad. Crew The crew, having been selected in 2002, had to wait one of the longest periods of time between crew selection and actual flight, about four years. Liverpool Football Club are an English professional association football club based in Liverpool, England. Liverpool play in the Premier League, and are the most successful club in the history of English football, having won more trophies than any other English club. They have won a record 18 First Division titles, and seven FA Cups. Liverpool have won five European Cups, which is an English record. They have also won the League Cup a record seven times. The club were founded in 1892, though they had limited success until the appointment of Bill Shankly as manager. Under Shankly Liverpool won 3 League Championship titles, 2 FA Cups and the club's first European trophy the UEFA Cup. During the past 30 years they have been one of the most successful clubs in English and European football, winning four European Cups from between 1977 and 1984. The club experienced a lean period during the 90s, but enjoyed a revival following the advent of the millennium winning a cup treble in 2001, and the club's fifth European Cup in 2005. The club's traditional colours were red and white, however this was changed to all red in the 1960s. Likewise the club's crest has evolved throughout their history, with flames being added to the crest following the Hillsborough Disaster to honour the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives in the disaster. Liverpool have played at Anfield since their formation, although there are plans to move to a new stadium in Stanley Park, which is due to be completed by 2011. Liverpool have a large and diverse fan base, who hold a string of long-standing rivalries with several other clubs; the most notable of these is with neighbours Everton, with whom they regularly contest the Merseyside derby. Liverpool also have a fierce rivalry with Manchester United, due to the success of both clubs, as well as their proximity to each other. The club's fans have been involved in two major disasters. At the Heysel Stadium Disaster, 39 Juventus fans died when a wall collapsed after crowd trouble in the 1985 European Cup Final, and the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989, where 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives
This all can't be sheer coincidence. No way to prove anything other than to wait and see. Many believe that the LHC supercollider will cause a worm hole on earth. Scientists insist it will not happen. Even if we did create a "small" worm hole, DO YOU THINK THEY'RE GOING TO TELL US?! We still haven't been told all there is to know about the Manhattan project. Update (9/10/2008): First Test was successful. Now its weeks of analysis. Then test particles at faster speeds, then analyze, then same in opposite direction. When they do the collision is when we need to stay alert. we need full disclosure.

Australian Television Event Sunday, August 31 at 8.30pm VIEW VIDEO: Scorched - Australian Television Event Australia, five years from now. There has been no rain in the catchments for over 200 days. Sydney's water supply is at its lowest levels in recorded history. The state government has built a desalination plant to "drought-proof" the city. At least that was the promise ... This is the scenario behind SCORCHED, Australia's first "what-if" disaster telemovie which premieres on WIN on Sunday, August 31 at 8.30pm. SCORCHED features an all --star cast including Vince Colosimo, Rachael Carpani, Georgie Parker, Cameron Daddo, Bob Morley, Les Hill, Libby Tanner, Kathryn Beck, Brittany Byrnes and Alexandra Fowler. David Langmore (CAMERON DADDO) is state operations commander for the National Fire Service (NFS). He rises on Christmas Eve to find that a combination of sustained drought, extreme weather conditions and lightning strikes has lit the fuse to a nightmare -- the worst bushfire conditions imaginable. Susan Shapiro (RACHAEL CARPANI), a TV news journalist, has sensed that this day was coming. She has been trying to get to the heart of Sydney's water crisis for months. Michael Francia (VINCE COLOSIMO), a doctor working in a hospital's accident and emergency department, is also feeling the heat from very early in the day. The air in the city's west is thick with smoke and he is struggling to keep on top of the growing number of respiratory admissions. By midday on Christmas Eve the city is ringed by huge bushfires burning out of control. Mother Nature is on the warpath. A state of emergency is declared. The NSW Premier, Angela Boardman (GEORGIE PARKER), is a woman whose career -- like the city itself -- is teetering on the brink of disaster. It all depends on the successful management of the bushfire crisis. Despite calls for calm, panic rises. More and more suburbs succumb to the flames. The city's infrastructure groans under the pressure. Power lines melt. Communications go down. Hospitals are running on generators with limited power - and there is barely any water left in the hoses to fight the fires. SCORCHED is a major Australian television event and multi-platform drama, produced by Goalpost Pictures Australia and Essential Media and Entertainment, in association with Firelight Productions.

Manchester United Football Club is an English football club, based at the Old Trafford stadium in Trafford, Greater Manchester, and is arguably the most popular football club in the world,[2] with over 330 million supporters worldwide[3][4] -- almost 5% of the world's population.[5] The club was a founding member of the Premier League in 1992, and has played in the top division of English football since 1938, with the exception of the 1974-75 season. Average attendances at the club have been higher than any other team in English football for all but six seasons since 1964--65.[6] The club is the second most successful in the history of English football and by far the most successful of recent times, having won 20 major honours since the start of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign as manager in November 1986.[7] They are the Premier League's reigning champions, and have won England's top division 17 times, one short of Liverpool's record of 18 league titles. In 1968, they became the first English club to win the European Cup, beating S.L. Benfica 4--1. They won a second European Cup as part of an unprecedented Treble in 1999, before winning their third in 2008, 40 years almost to the day after their first. The club also holds the record for the most FA Cup titles with 11.[8] Since the late 1990s, the club has been one of the richest in the world with the highest revenue of any football club,[9] and is currently ranked as the richest and most valuable club in football, with a value of £897 million (€1,333 mil / $1.8 billion) as of May 2008.[10] Manchester United was a founding member of the now defunct G-14 group of Europe's leading football clubs and its replacement, the European Club Association. Sir Alex Ferguson has been manager of the club since 6 November 1986. The current club captain is Gary Neville, who succeeded Roy Keane in November 2005.[11]
CHAN: And switching gears to Pakistan... Two frost-bitten Dutch climbers remember the colleagues they left behind on the country's treacherous K2 mountain. You may remember last week at least 11 climbers perished on the unforgiving landmark. Here's that story. STORY: Marco van Rooijen, leader of a Dutch climbing team that lost three of 11 climbers who perished on K2 this week, arrived in Islamabad on Thursday. He's joined by another Dutch survivor. Several teams had massed on the peak for an assault on the summit. At least two climbers died during the ascent, but disaster struck during the descent at steep gully known as "Bottleneck," above 8,200 meters. The ice fall killed three Korean and two Nepali climbers, and left around a dozen more stranded above the Bottleneck, exhausted in the oxygen starved air. [Marco Van Rooijen, K2 Survivor]: "My experience in K2 was a wonderful experience because we were successful in reaching the summit after three times and thirteen years. But on the other hand of course it's a disaster that you're losing a team member." A Pakistani army helicopter rescued the frost-bitten survivors from the slopes of K2 on Monday, leaving behind at least 11 dead climbers. Though a Serbian climber from another group and a Pakistani fell during the ascent, most of the fatalities resulted from an ice fall soon after climbers who had reached the top began their descent. Some fell to their deaths, others froze, and some went missing in the thin air above 8,000 meters, known to mountaineers as the "Death Zone" as the body and brain begin shutting down due to a lack of oxygen. Other survivors were airlifted off the mountain on Monday, but Italian climber Marco Confortola was still at an altitude that was unsafe for the helicopter to fly. A rescue party reached him on Monday evening and after four nights on the mountain, the stricken climber walked down to Base Camp on Tuesday afternoon.
To watch in HQ and listen in stereo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhdvY2hrEkU&fmt=18 The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an agency of the United States government, responsible for the nation's public space program. NASA was established on July 29, 1958, by the National Aeronautics and Space Act. In addition to the space program, it is also responsible for long-term civilian and military aerospace research. Since February 2006 NASA's self-described mission statement is to "pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery, and aeronautics research." NASA's motto is: "For the benefit of all". The motto of NASA's Office of Education is: Shaping the Future: Launching New Endeavors to Inspire the Next Generation of Explorers. Shuttle era: The Space Shuttle became the major focus of NASA in the late 1970s and the 1980s. Planned to be a frequently launchable and mostly reusable vehicle, four space shuttles were built by 1985. The first to launch, Columbia, did so on April 12, 1981. The shuttle was not all good news for NASA — flights were much more expensive than initially projected, and the public again lost interest as missions appeared to become mundane until the 1986 Challenger disaster again highlighted the risks of space flight. Work began on Space Station Freedom as a focus for the manned space program, but within NASA there was argument that these projects came at the expense of more inspiring unmanned missions such as the Voyager probes. Nonetheless, the shuttle launched milestone projects like the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The HST is a joint project between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA), and its success has paved the way for greater collaboration between the agencies. The HST was created with a relatively small budget of $2 billion but has continued operation since 1990, delighting both scientists and the public. Some of its images, such as the groundbreaking Hubble Deep Field, have become famous. In 1995 Russian-American interaction resumed with the Shuttle-Mir missions. Once more an American vehicle docked with a Russian craft, this time a full-fledged space station. This cooperation continues to today, with Russia and America the two biggest partners in the largest space station ever built -- the International Space Station (ISS). The strength of their cooperation on this project was even more evident when NASA began relying on Russian launch vehicles to service the ISS during the two year grounding of the shuttle fleet following the 2003 Columbia disaster. Costing over one hundred billion dollars, it has been difficult at times for NASA to justify the ISS. The population at large has historically been hard to impress with details of scientific experiments in space, preferring news of grand projects to exotic locations. Even now, the ISS cannot accommodate as many scientists as planned. During much of the 1990s, NASA was faced with shrinking annual budgets due to Congressional belt-tightening in Washington, D.C. In response, NASA's ninth administrator, Daniel Goldin, pioneered the "faster, better, cheaper" approach that enabled NASA to cut costs while still delivering a wide variety of aerospace programs (Discovery Program). That method was criticized and re-evaluated following the twin losses of Mars Climate Orbiter and Mars Polar Lander in 1999. Yet, NASA's shuttle program had made 116 successful launches as of December 2006. The Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003, which killed the crew of six Americans and one Israeli, caused a 29-month hiatus in space shuttle flights and triggered a serious re-examination of NASA's priorities. The U.S. government, various scientists, and the public all reconsidered the future of the space program.
Sorry I'm late... two months ago I uploaded the other videos of this run, then I had some issues with my PC's power source and forgot about these videos This is the last stage of my first succesful 1cc normal with Magic Team in Imperishable Night. -- which by definition is... not very good This was a disaster, lost many many points through this stage. Lots of final spells, deaths, missed cards. Oh yea, and I got the sentence "Last Spell Failed" carved in my forehead. I did capture some spell cards though, thankfully. And I must say, for the record, that I had not practiced this stage with magic team at all, my knowledge about it came entirely from the easy difficulty I had cleared before. The malice canon granted me some card captures, but also some failures (the fire spell most notably)... well, anyway I was happy at the time that I had finally managed beating normal. I have gotten much better since then, but my goal is beating EoSD's extra for now (I have a tendency of not bombing, and I've got to learn to take less risks) I had to mess up with the draw interval so that it wouldn't lag too much. I also recorded more frames than my PC can handle and sped up the video by as usual (this time by 12/7 ) , so now true speed should apply at ~70.00 FPS in the replay... of course this was played at 60 FPS =P (PS: btw, I had no that in rainbow danmaku, Kaguya would change the pattern of her non-aimed rainbow balls... nearly got you this time, just wait and see ÒwÓ)
After a few successful flights, we decided to try our blade cx2 outdoors. But a gust of wind blew it into a 30 foot tree. More skill is required ....

(Excerpted from a new half-hour film by Big Noise.) Katrina was called the worst natural disaster in America in 100 years. . . but the hundreds who died here were not killed by the storm - they were left for days to drown as flood waters rose around them. And today, the storm isn't what's keeping most of the city's former residents from returning home. A richer, whiter New Orleans is being built in which the city's poor and black majority have no place. While the city moves ahead with its plans to destroy public housing, scattered former residents fight a desperate battle for their right to return home. The outcome will have far reaching consequences. New Orleans is the front line of a national struggle to save public housing and to end the privatization of government services. New Orleans is the model that, if successful, will be reproduced across the country.
Three years before the disaster, Challenger had a perfect launch on June 18, 1983. There are a few short audio dropouts. Yes, I know it's a video camera pointed at a black & white TV, but that's the best I could do in 83.
Cisco has installed mobile TelePresence on the Network Emergency Response Vehicle. The Network Emergency Response Vehicle (NERV). Basically, a mobile communications vehicle that can act as a command center for your on-the-ground disaster management, as well as a central processing center for all the communications going on for that effort. Through Cisco's IPICS technology, which allows disparate radio systems to communicate with each other via IP translation, police, who are on one radio system, can talk with fire professionals who are on another radio system, who can talk with the National Guard, who are on another radio system. The NERV also has TelePresence, video surveillance, Wi-Fi, satellite communications, and IP telephony on-board. In this short video, Bob Browning, Senior Manager of Tactical Operations Support at Cisco, gives us a tour of the NERV's technology and capabilities. This vehicle just returned from the Harris Fire and is exactly why interoperable communications systems are essential to successful disaster response and recovery. In the name of Allah, The Compassionate The source of All Mercy ONLY ONE WAY TO SALVATION Creatures of Allah! There is only one way to avert an approaching disaster: * Have faith I Allah and His blessed prophet and cleanse your hearts of any allegiances that are false. *Continue doing good to your fellow creatures until the Day you are called home. *Invite others to the Path of righteousness with sincerity. *And endure with perseverance every test and hardship that comes your way. These are not our words, but the words of your Lord: By the declining day, surely man is in a state of loss, save those who believes and do good deeds, and exhort one another to the truth and exhort one another to the endurance (Al-Quran:103:1-5) Remember! Even slight defect in your faith is a cause for damnation . It is only the sins, mistakes and shortcomings of ours that Allah will forgive through His Mercy. Our Lord only warns us against placing another object ,idol, or before Him that is ,He does not allow any kind of association (Shirk). He says this plainly: Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with Him :but He forgivth anything else to who He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin most heinous indeed. (Al-Quran:4:48) In the saying of the blessed Prophet we read: Whosoever fills the entire earth with sins, but then dies without associating any partner to me .I will meet him with the forgiveness equal to that. (Muslim) So many nations throughout history have been wiped out because of Association (Shirk) And Lo! Even today our Muslim community has reached. the verge of annihilation because of our indulgence in it: Say (O Mohammad , to the disbelievers) : Travel in the land and see the nature of the consequences for those who lived before you ! Most of them were polytheists ( Mushrik) (Al-Quran:30:42) In other words, tell them to explore the four corners of the earth and look upon the ruins of the past. If older civilizations, which were rooted in can succumb to disaster and disappear, then can't we too? Our Lord testifies that for this Muslim community even as for others there is only One way to Salvation :Its true sons and daughters must arise and realize that this world is simply a way station on your journey to eternity and that each one of us is born to die. For such reasons it is imperative to live our life as successfully and count. One must, therefore: * Protect himself from every kind of Association(Shirk). * Be firm in affirming the Unity of the creator(Tauhid). * Pattern his lifestyles after the most successful man in the History, the blessed Prophet Mohammed (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him). This is the only way one can transform the approaching disaster into certain success. If it is not done here and now then an awful fate is inevitable. Those who believed and did not pollute their belief with Shirk, for them is peace and safety and they are truly the guided ones (they are going to reach the goal) (Al-Quran:6:82) (ZULM in this verse has been interpreted as Shirk by the holy Prophet himself) (Bukahri and Muslim) Let us be perfectly clear about the meaning of Kalima (the testimony of faith ) and let there be no doubt about its implications. Then we must learn to hold ton innovation (the bida) Only Tauhid and the way of the blessed prophet can build our steps into the hereafter .Our Lord has promised to defend us if we but try with sincerity. The meaning of the first part of the testimony of faith, La ilaha illa Allay is that is neither Father nor Son. Male nor Female, two nor three. He alone may be deemed worthy of of being called: * The Creator and the Master. * The knower of the hidden and the clear. * The Omnipresent, the Watcher and Sovereign. * He is the Only in whose power are all good and ill. * He renders help, fulfills needs, lifts sorrow and attends to those who call upon Him. * He alone is to be remembered and called upon often. * All trust and hope must be placed in Him and all prayers are directed to Him alone with no effort and making intermediaries. One should humble himself physically and spiritually before him alone .Charity and goodwill must be done in His Name. * Legislation for the basics of human government and organization begins with his precepts. * All are his creature and no one has any influence or power over Him Whether living or dead. Neither graves, tombs , people, charms, symbols nor animals have any validity in his worship. All are helpless before Him. Priests, Monks, Rabbis, Sheiks, Imams, Swamis and Piers are mere suppliants with no power over him.

I expect the Battle of Britain is about to begin..."[7] Had it been successful, the planned amphibious and airborne landings in Britain of Operation Sealion would have followed. The Battle of Britain was the first major campaign to be fought entirely by air forces. It was the largest and most sustained bombing campaign attempted up until that date. The failure of Nazi Germany to destroy Britain's air defence or to break British morale is considered the Third Reich's first major defeat. Neither Hitler nor the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW) believed it possible to carry out a successful amphibious assault on the British Isles until the RAF had been neutralized. Secondary objectives were to destroy aircraft production and ground infrastructure, to attack areas of political significance, and to terrorize the British people into seeking an armistice or surrender. Some historians have argued no invasion could have succeeded, asserting the massive superiority of the Royal Navy over the Kriegsmarine would have made Sealion a disaster. They argue the Luftwaffe would have been unable to prevent decisive intervention by British cruisers and destroyers, even with air superiority.[8][9] British historians date the battle from 10 July to 31 October 1940, which represented the most intense period of daylight bombing. German historians usually place the beginning of the battle in mid-August 1940 and end it in May 1941, on the withdrawal of the bomber units in preparation for the attack on the USSR.

preview of video in collaboration with Abdel Noukrati, Harold Henning, Ditte Van Brempt, Hans Van den Broeck, Maya Galle and the KVS-theatre, together with 2 groups of young Moroccan theatre makers. The film shows a group of people following a coaching session on 'how to prepare for a successful job interview' while in the midst of this an earthquake occurs. They get trapped in a damaged skyscraper and try to escape. The film is an ironic version of a disaster movie. One of my first compositions. This one that I uploaded isn't the final one. I'm still making changes to the song. Hopefully, it'll come out successful! The words from the song tell of the disaster that I made. And that's why.. the song is composed of lyrics saying sorry and hoping for it to NEVER happen again.
May 31, 1889, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, 2209 people killed, thousands left homeless, countless bodies never found, the worst flood in the nation's history. Pre-cursor to the recent Katrina disaster in New Orleans in that failure of man-made devices led directly to the death of thousands. The only difference is that in 1889, Americans came through with a successful reconstruction. 20-minute mini documentary and interview with Richard Burkert, Executive Director, Johnstown Area Heritage Association. Piano music performance by Patricia Prattis Jennings of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. "You need to know the business before you get into it," says Sue Porter Henderson, president of Henderson Enterprises Inc., a New York company providing actor assistance since 1983, former model and actress, and author of Secrets of Successful Actors. The problem is that in an industry as diverse and confusing as show business, there are many pitfalls that can potential stall or end your acting career. Watch out for the following five major pitfalls to ensure the success of your acting dreams. 1. Avoid scams. There are many organizations that will simply take your money and never give you results. Be wary of organizations that ask you to spend large amounts of money up front, or ask you to spend a lot of money on your own without explaining results. 2. Don't force it. If you are a parent and you want your child to act, make sure it is what they want. Forcing anyone into a career as stressful as modeling or acting may have negative effects later in life. 3. Find the right place. Research the agencies you are thinking of using. Many people don't realize that certain agencies only deal with certain groups of people. You may spend money unnecessarily in a way that will not be proactive to your career. 4. Don't spend large amounts of money. While there are costs to acting, avoid unnecessary or overly expensive costs. Always find out what you need to do before spending money. 5. Be confident and reliable. Begging for parts will not work, and may hurt your career. Be patient, be persistent, and be present. You must show that you are confident and reliable by being non-judgmental, and always prompt, on time, and ready to do what you need to do. Dr. Proactive, Randy Gilbert producer and host of the Inside Success Show enjoyed learning from his interview author and acting consultant, Sue Porter Henderson. You can learn these tips and many more on successful actors from Sue Porter Henderson by listening to the entire interview for free by going to www.InsideSuccessRadio.com/Guests/Sue-Henderson

One for the surplus fans. In 1917 the British and ANZAC forces in what is now Israel were runnning out of water. While the British and New Zealanders had tried to take the town for months, a last ditch attempt was devised using the Australian Light Horse. Expecting the Australians to advance within a mile, dismount and attack on foot, as they normally did, the Australians mounted the last succesful Cavalry charge in the history of modern warfare - In three hours they achieved what the British Army had been attempting for three months. Ironically, all Australians know about Gallipoli, possibly one of the greatest disasters of WWI, but nobody knows of the amazing achievements by the Light Horse in the dark days of 1917.
makin plantains and its not successful
I'll just be honest about it; at the mini-boss, my first try was a total disaster. So I cut that one out and tried to 'glue' it together with the 2nd (succesful) try.
More extreme, less successful. Day 3: Disaster strikes. Day 4: Second attempt. Day 5: For better or for worse.
the 1st try. improvements will be made. hopefully next time will be more succesful.

First energiya rocket launch. This rocket was also used to launch the soviet space shuttle. Video from http://www.buran-energia.com/ You can see that it bents slightly just after lift-off (I bet some engineers suddenly remembered the N1). This was likely a bug in the guidance system, since this was the first launch and the second one (the one carrying the buran) went perfectly. Although that was a little scary, the system recovered very well and did a successful launch. The polyus payload guidance system failed after it was separated from energia core causing it to not reach orbit. http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/forum/forums/thread- view.asp?tid=4913&posts=35&start=1 http://www.spacevideo.ru/movie/movie.html
