www.FocalEquity.com - Be very weary, because the signs for a correction are more abundant than ever. While more upside still remains in the SPY, and the red daily candle has not really broken any significant levels, the financials that lead this market are showing strong signs of weakness. Today we look at the SPY, JPM, GS, BAC, WFC and GOOG
Morgan Stanley analysts are lowering their 2010 and 2011 EPS estimates for Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). Analysts Betsy Graseck and Justin Kwong said, "1Q10 results yielded a smaller, higher-quality balance sheet than expected going into the quarter. WFC reported EPS of $0.45; adding back merger and integration expenses of 5c, we get to an operating EPS number of $0.50, above our estimate by 12c and above the street's by 8c. Relative to our estimates, positives included higher fee income of 14c, lower expense of 2c, and lower provisions of 8c. Our provision forecast is coming down, but so is our NII forecast. We are tweaking down our 2010e EPS by 1c to $2.18, and our 2011e EPS by 23c to $3.62. We believe the next legs for the stock are an acceleration in provision decline, reserve release driving capital generation, and capital management, which we expect in 2H10 through 2011. We are increasing our price target by $1, to $43, driven by the faster-than-expected improvement in credit."
3/24/2010-US auto finance firm, GMAC Financial Services, has reportedly agreed to sell its factoring business to Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC), Bloomberg reported Wednesday. The deal, which Bloomberg cited two unnamed sources as saying could be announced as early as today, would allow Wells Fargo to merge the factoring business with its Trade Capital. GMAC, which is now largely owned by the US government following a number of bailouts, has been looking t spinoff a number of its units in order to focus on auto financing. Reuters reported earlier in March that it tapped Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) to advise on its potential sale of Residential Capital, a downtrodden mortgage business.
3/16/2010- Genpact Ltd. (NYSE:G) announced a secondary public offering of 28 million common shares. The shares are being sold by certain shareholders and consist of affiliates of General Electric (NYSE:GE), General Atlantic, Oak Hill Capital Partners and Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). The underwriters have been granted an option to purchase up to 4.2 million additional shares. Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) and Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) are lead book-running managers of the offering. Citigroup (NYSE:C), UBS (NYSE:UBS) and Credit Suisse (NYSE:CS) are serving as joint book-running managers. JP Morgan (NYSE:JPM) and Wells Fargo are serving as co-lead managers.

Worries about Chinese reserve requirements squeezing the global economy, as well as lingering concerns about the euro zone, also are weighing down financial issues. Indeed, French banking group Societe Generale SA's strategist Albert Edwards warned in a note to investors that the euro area could be heading for a break-up.
01/28/10 - www.MPTrader.com - Wells Fargo & Co (WFC) is a less bearish chart than BAC. While the market was tanking on Friday, WFC was acting well and actually broke above its Oct-Jan resistance line at around 28.90 and continued up to 29.17 or so but failed to continue to the Jan high and instead reversed and closed down on the day. All that minor reversal did was to return WFC back in to its contractionary range. Will it be able to preserve this range or will it drop out? The major US equity indices are trading lower Wednesday on concerns that tighter lending standards in China will prolong an economic recovery. A top banking regulator said that China will tighten its monitoring of banks as it tries to prevent speculative bubbles in areas like real estate. The Commerce Department said construction of new homes and apartments fell 4% in December to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 557000 from an upwardly revised 580000 in November. Applications for future projects increased strongly as the industry gets ready for the spring selling season. The Labor Department said Wednesday that wholesale prices edged up 0.2% last month, much slower than the 1.8% surge in November. In corporate news, IBM (NYSE:IBM) shares fell 3.5% after the company said that its earnings rose 9% year-over-year and sales rose nearly 1%, which disappointed traders that had expected better. Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) fell 13 cents despite reporting that its EPS of 8 cents beat analysts forecasts. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) is trading 1.70% lower at 10543.52, the S&P500 (INX) is down 1.61% at 1131.74, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) is down 1.87% at 2276.07.

Today we looked at a slight pull back in the markets as we called for in our friday video. We still believe we are in a short term (2-6 months) bull market within a longer term (5-6 year) bear market. However, since we are day/swing traders, we want to focus on the short term bull market which could provide new higher highs and higher lows. The pull back that we called for was due to GS hitting the upper resistance of an ascending channel that it has been trading in. We did not see any ...

Today we looked at the markets and have officially declared a BULL MARKET, as we have broken some key resistance lines on the SPY and tested them on the QQQQs (a confirmed breakout for the Qs) and the VIX finally broke down under the support line that has been holding it ever since this market fell in october. We also look at GS as it gave us the que to be long the market when it broke out from it's bull flag channel and rallied up all the way to it's longer term ascending channel. We look ...
Today we look at many charts to see if the bulls managed to take us into bull market territory. We look today at the Dow Industrials, $SPX, SPY, GLD, VIX, WFC, FAZ and SRS. We believe all charts have a common theme, and that we're on the breakpoint of bullishness in the ...
Does the market have us fooled? Well, not necessarily. We still believe the next move is lower, but it might be tied to the jobs number at 8:30 am tomorrow. Today we looked at the rally in the markets after taking a lot of profits at the open. While we continue to believe in a 35-55$ target for FAZ, we rather you played FAZ on a scalp basis rather than holding it blindly. In ...
