This concludes the WFMJ 1971 New Years Eve show. Listen for a few more remarks about WHOT and Big Al Knight. Gary Gunther makes a brief appearance along with Don Dempsey doing a commercial. Plus you get to hear the number 1 song for 1971, not once but three times. You will hear why. Thanks for listening.
Part 4 continues with Ted and Steve and their midnight countdown along with the salutations??? to almost everyone in Youngstown radio for 1971.
We continue on with Ted and Steve and hear more funny dedications.
Ted and Steve start kicking the show into high gear with this aircheck. Listen for the "crowd" to arrive around 3:30 and they continue with crazy sound effects and inserts into songs. Like WHOT, they take requests this evening, but they do not air the calls opting instead to read them. This method gives them fodder for their comic bits. Listen for the jabs to WHOT and their air personalities. Some background on their bits about "Big Al Knight". He was the alter ego of WHOT jock and PD Dick Thompson. Big Al was on tape and held down the midnight shift. Upcoming posts will continue for this show. Thanks for listening.
This segment features WFMJ DJs Ted Alexander and Steve Michaels doing their thing on Dec. 31, 1971. I did not scope the Tony Orlando song so that you can hear some of the sound effects used. This is something not heard on radio today--so sad. I will be posting more cuts soon. Hope it brings back some memories.
