.....Our Planet Earth is nothing in the Universe Ocean.... The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. The Sun has a diameter of about 1392000 kilometres (865000 mi) (about 109 Earths), and by itself accounts for about 99.86% of the Solar System's mass; the remainder consists of the planets (including Earth), asteroids, meteoroids, comets, and dust in orbit. About three-fourths of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen, while most of the rest is helium. Less than 2% consists of other elements, including iron, oxygen, carbon, neon, and others. VY Canis Majoris (VY CMa) is a red hyper-giant star located in the constellation Canis Major. With a size of 2600 solar radii, it is the largest known star and also one of the most luminous known. It is located about 1.5 kilo-parsecs (4.6×1016 km) or about 4900 light years away from Earth. Unlike most stars, which occur in either binary or multiple star systems, VY CMa is a single star (ie does not have any stellar companions). It is categorized as a semi-regular variable and has an estimated period of 6275081 days, or just under 17200 years. More description is not available....

Though there are few places colder on Earth than the Canadian Arctic, scientists have warned that increasing levels of pollution are not only threatening the polar icecaps, but the world's oceans. They say that could mean everything from the smallest fish to the largest sharks are in danger. In the second of a three-part series on the Arctic, Al Jazeera's Steve Chao reports on how he spent two weeks with scientists as they investigated what as known as climate change's "evil twin".

Earth is the third planet from the Sun, and the fifth-largest of the eight planets in the Solar System. It is also the largest, most massive, and densest of the Solar System's four terrestrial planets. It is sometimes referred to as the World, the Blue Planet, or Terra. Home to millions of species, including humans, Earth is the only place in the Universe where life is known to exist. The planet formed 4.54 billion years ago, and life appeared on its surface within a billion years. Structure of the Earth The interior of the Earth, like that of the other terrestrial planets, is divided into layers by their chemical or physical (rheological) properties. The outer layer of the Earth is a chemically distinct silicate solid crust, which is underlain by a highly viscous solid mantle. The crust is separated from the mantle by the Mohorovičić discontinuity, and the thickness of the crust varies: averaging 6 km under the oceans and 3050 km on the continents. The crust and the cold, rigid, top of the upper mantle are collectively known as the lithosphere, and it is of the lithosphere that the tectonic plates are comprised. Beneath the lithosphere is the asthenosphere, a relatively low-viscosity layer on which the lithosphere rides. Important changes in crystal structure within the mantle occur at 410 and 660 kilometers below the surface, spanning a transition zone that separates the upper and lower mantle. Beneath the mantle, an extremely low viscosity liquid outer core lies above ...

Earth (or the Earth) is the third planet from the Sun, and the fifth-largest of the eight planets in the Solar System. It is also the largest, most massive, and densest of the Solar System's four terrestrial planets. It is sometimes referred to as the World, the Blue Planet,[note 3] or Terra.[note 4] Home to millions of species,[11] including humans, Earth is the only place in the Universe where life is known to exist. The planet formed 4.54 billion years ago,[12] and life appeared on its surface within a billion years. Since then, Earth's biosphere has significantly altered the atmosphere and other abiotic conditions on the planet, enabling the proliferation of aerobic organisms as well as the formation of the ozone layer which, together with Earth's magnetic field, blocks harmful radiation, permitting life on land.[13] The physical properties of the Earth, as well as its geological history and orbit, have allowed life to persist during this period. The world is expected to continue supporting life for another 1.5 billion years, after which the rising luminosity of the Sun will eliminate the biosphere.[14] Earth's outer surface is divided into several rigid segments, or tectonic plates, that gradually migrate across the surface over periods of many millions of years. About 71% of the surface is covered with salt-water oceans, the remainder consisting of continents and islands; liquid water, necessary for all known life, is not known to exist on any other planet's surface ...
www.nyc812.com A massive earthquake has hit the coast of Chile, killing 78 so far people, flattening buildings and triggering a tsunami. The 8.8-magnitude quake, the countrys largest in 25 years, shook the capital Santiago for a minute and half at 3 (6:34am GMT) today. A tsunami warning has been extended across 53 countries, including most of Central and South America and as far as Australia, Hawaii and Antarctica. The wave has already caused serious damage to the sparsely populated Juan Fernandez islands, off the Santiago coast, and is now travelling across the ocean at several hundred km per hour. Multimedia * Map of Chile earthquake zone The death toll in Chile has reached 78 and is still rising according to President Michelle Bachelet, who has declared a state of catastrophe in the country. Calling for calm from an emergency response centre, the outgoing president said: We have had a huge earthquake, with some aftershocks. Despite this, the system is functioning. People should remain calm. Were doing everything we can with all the forces we have. Any information we will share immediately. The quake hit near the town of Maule, 200 miles southwest of Santiago, at a depth of 22 miles underground. The epicentre was just 70 miles from Concepcion, Chiles second-largest city, where more than 200000 people live along the Bio Bio river. In Santiago buildings collapsed and phone lines and electricity were brought down, but the full extent of the damage is still being determined ...

The vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) lives in the deep ocean, home to the largest ecosystems on our planet. A "living fossil," this animal has remained relatively unchanged for hundreds of millions of years. The deep ocean contains what may be the greatest number of animal species, the greatest biomass, and the greatest number of individual organisms in the living world. Humans have explored the deep ocean for about 150 years, and most of what is known is based on studies of the deep seafloor. In contrast, the water column above the deep seabed comprises more than 90% of the living space, yet less than 1% of this biome has been explored. The deep pelagic biota is the largest and least-known major faunal group on Earth despite its obvious importance at the global scale. Pelagic species represent an incomparable reservoir of biodiversity. Although we have yet to discover and describe the majority of these species, the threats to their continued existence are numerous and growing. Conserving deep pelagic biodiversity is a problem of global proportions that has never been addressed comprehensively. The potential effects of these threats include the extensive restructuring of entire ecosystems, changes in the geographical ranges of many species, large-scale elimination of taxa, and a decline in biodiversity at all scales. This review provides an initial framework of threat assessment for confronting the challenge of conserving deep pelagic biodiversity; and it ...
We need your help! Visit: www.protectchagos.org and sign the petition. You can make a difference. We have until 12th February to convince the UK Government to save the Chagos Islands, one of the greatest marine environments left on Earth, by creating a protected area larger than the Great Barrier Reef. Why Chagos? The Chagos archipelago is home to the largest coral atoll in the world, and is the most biodiverse marine ecosystem under UK jurisdiction. The UK is committed to protecting marine biodiversity, both through its own Marine Access Bill and also through numerous EU and international agreements. But what is so special about the Chagos Islands and waters? What are the values that deserve recognition and protection? Creating one of the worlds greatest conservation areas Located in the centre of the Indian Ocean, the Chagos contain the worlds largest coral atoll and the greatest marine biodiversity in the UK by far. It also has one of the healthiest reef systems in the cleanest waters in the world, supporting half the total area of good quality reefs in the Indian Ocean. As a result, the ecosystems of the Chagos have so far proven resilient to climate change and environmental disruptions. Find out more about Chagos and add your name to our petition http www.zsl.org

A trip through Panama canal using google earth map page embedded at milloz.com The Panama Canal is a ship canal which joins the Caribbean Sea in Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean. One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, it had an enormous impact on shipping between the two oceans, replacing the long and treacherous route via the Drake Passage and Cape Horn at the southernmost tip of South America. A ship sailing from New York to San Francisco via the canal travels 9500 km (6000 miles), well under half the 22500 km (14000 miles) route around Cape Horn. Although the concept of a canal near Panama dates back to the early 16th century, the first attempt to construct a canal began in 1880 under French leadership. After this attempt failed and 21900 workers died, the project of building a canal was attempted and completed by the United States in the early 1900s, with the canal opening in 1914. The building of the 77 km (48 mi) canal was plagued by problems, including disease (particularly malaria and yellow fever) and landslides. By the time the canal was completed, a total of 27500 workmen are estimated to have died in the French and American efforts.

The Europa Jupiter System Mission would use two robotic orbiters to conduct unprecedentedly detailed studies of the giant gaseous planet Jupiter and its moons Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. NASA would build one orbiter, initially named Jupiter Europa. ESA would build the other orbiter, initially named Jupiter Ganymede. The probes would launch in 2020 on two separate launch vehicles from different launch sites. The orbiters would reach the Jupiter system in 2026 and spend at least three years conducting research. Europa has a surface of ice, and scientists theorize it has an ocean of water beneath that could provide a home for living things. Ganymede, the largest moon in the solar system, is the only moon known to have its own internally generated magnetic field and is suspected to have a deep undersurface water ocean. Scientists long have sought to understand the causes of the magnetic field. Callisto's surface is extremely heavily cratered and ancient, providing a clear indication of a record of events from the early history of the Solar System. Finally, Io is the most volcanically active body in the solar system. The orbiters would spend nearly a year orbiting Europa and Ganymede. NASA's probe would investigate whether Europa might harbor life, and ESA's spacecraft would orbit Ganymede to conduct investigations of the surface and interior of this satellite, to better understand the formation and evolution of the Jovian system. Its busy spinning around the inner core, and listen, This steady movement causes Earths magnetism. Ranging from 4 to 9,000 degrees, It contributes 1/5 of the heat flowin to you and me. Its liquid metals that violently flow So let it settle and when youre ready let me know. Just Chorus Verse II The mantle layer is the largest of the class. About half of our planets mass. The mantel is composed of very hot dense rocks, That move and flow, always on the go, they never lock, Never stop, and theyre responsible for tectonic shift Please believe the Earths plates are adrift Its pretty thick and the heat is awesome 1,600 at the top, 4,000 at the bottom The continental crusts surface is where we breathe A lot of rock up to 25 miles deep. The oceanic crust is next door Its 3-5 miles thick just below the ocean floor. Earths surface: 70% H20. Where do you get all that water? Salty sea flow, fresh waters in the glaciers, ice caps, and snow.
